After many hours of searching forums, help files, turning on/off firewalls, etc, I need someone far smarter than myself to help me connect to the above machine. I also looked into Samba and do not understand how to use it. It is installed on my Linux laptop, but I have no idea how to access it. I'm hoping that connecting to my Windows laptop is a fairly simple process.

The funny thing is I have check marked as enable networking and wireless and I have installed hardware and activated as well.
Running 9.10 Ubuntu on my laptop. It connects fine to regular access poitns, but for some reason it won't connect to my android wifi adhoc sharing. I have it as dual boot with Windows and windows connects to it perfectly. From Ubuntu 9.10 it tries to connect... then just disconnects. Would be killer to be able to use it with my adhoc wifi sharing! I prefer my Ubuntu boot, rather than my windows one

The rumors appeared true and they have finally implemented 802.11x authentication instead of that horrible java app netdirect. I am sure you've been cursing at its erratic stability. There is no linux documentation for airUWS-Lite nor anything more imformative than there windows/mac point and click steps found at [URL]. However with a few simple clicks you can have stable working connection.
When connecting make sure you have theses settings.
Security: WPA & WPA2 Enterprise
Authentication: Protected EAP (PEAP)

I have a laptop with win7 and I would like to connect to the internet through my desktop pc's connection. I have Karmic on the desktop and use a cable modem and I'm thinking about buying a router to solve this problem but I wouldn't know how to set it up in Ubuntu nor which router would be the best or easiest to set up. I saw this site [URL] and I'm torn between the TP-Link TL-WR741ND Wireless Lite N Router and the D-Link Wireless N Router DIR-615, because these are the cheapest ones and I can't afford much more than that.
View 6 Replies View Relatedim having problems connecting mybook 2 with my laptop. Everything was ok and running perfectly and there was no changes in my laptop or upgrades and it stop working. I was not able to see the computers in my network then I fixed it I can see them but when I try to browse the files the OS tells me that is unable to mount location and failed to retrieve share list from server. The funny part is that if I go to Places>Connect to server and type my mybook ip address, my laptop can connect and I can browse the files. I really dont know what is the problem. My firewall is down so I dont think that is the problem. If anyone can help me with these because I know im able to connect to my mybook but i am unable to connect to any other laptop or my WD-Tv live.

The desktop does not have a wireless card and the modem is in another room. I have a spare ethernet cable, is it possible to connect the Ubuntu desktop to the internet by connecting it to the laptop with the cable? I'm not very good with computers.If this isn't possible, how would I go about connecting the desktop to the internet?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just want to use Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) to connect to the internet. I have done a massive amount of troubleshooting, but some of it seems to contradict itself, and the only two things that I know for sure are that it used to work, and that my Ethernet cable is not the problem. When I use Terminal utilities like ifup and dhclient it seems that it can not determine IP information, but when I try to put it in manually, the "Apply" button grays out right after I finish typing it in. When I try to connect normally, in KDE or GNOME, the icon acts like it's connecting, then instead of having the connected icon, I receive a notification that "the network has been disconnected", and it goes back to the disconnected icon.
Oh, and by the way, I know that I could probably find a workaround, but I have limited resources, and this used to work. The Linux is a Dell desktop with Fedora 12 and the Windows is a Windows 7 HP laptop.EDIT: I hope that I didn't mess something up, but I accidentally used system-network-config to try putting in the IP address there, and ended up changing it back to the original settings, but the computer is now calling it Auto Ethernet in the taskbar icon, although sudo iwconfig in the terminal still calls it eth0.
Sometimes I am unable to connect to my WEP network in ubuntu. No matter how many times I try, even restarting, it will not allow me to connect. However if I boot into XP, I can connect to the network. Then when I reboot again and then try in Ubuntu again, it will work.

All users need a specific network share mapped.
I am using Likewise Open to join the domain at the moment.

This works fine so long as I specify the username and password statically. Is there a way I can get it to mount using the currently logged in users credentials so that it mounts automatically?
The other issue then is how to I specify that user is allowed read and write access?
I'm able to connect to a networked Windows machine and its shares using the Places -> Network -> Windows network interface, but unable to do so using smbclient at terminal command line. I can see the shares using:
smbclient -L //server -U username
But when issuing the command:
smbclient //server/service -U username
I get:

tree connect failed: NT_STATUS_BAD_NETWORK_NAME
The share name has spaces, like
lab raid root share
I use 40 to fill in the spaces. This problem must be something fairly simple if I can connect via the Places GUI but not through the command line.
I have a beefy Win Box desktop that i'm using as a media server and i have a home network setup already using windows xp. I had everything running fine and the PC connects flawlessly to my Bravia TV and both my ps3's so i know the network and sharing settings are setup just fine. Anyways i got tired of all the Windows 7 BS and decided i would once again use Ubuntu on my Toshiba netbook. So the question is how in the heck do i get my Ubuntu netbook to connect to the Desktop? I've tried browsing the fourms but either i'm missing something of just a little slow. What "extensions" would i need to get and how would i go about implementing it from there?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have the following setup: An ADSL Router (192.168.4.1) which plugs into my server (that has 2 network cards) Server(eth0-connecting to the ADSL Router) = 192.168.4.2 Server(eth1-connecting to the windows XP PC) = 192.168.4.3 And the windows XP PC = 192.168.4.4 if I delete the entire routing table and add a default route route add default gw 192.168.4.1 dev eth0 I get an error (I can't remember the error, the PC's at work) however if I unplug the cable going from the PC to eth1, I can then successfully add the default route, and I can ping the router, however when I reconnect the cable to the PC and Server... I can still ping the router (from the server) but I cannot ping the PC
if I try and add another route such as: route add -net 192.168.4.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 gw 192.168.4.4 it wont let me add the rule I have a feeling i am doing something really stupid here with the addressing scheme,
I want to connect a laptop running ubuntu 10.04 to a laptop running windows 7 via direct connection in order to transfer files like music, documents, pictures, etc. I have an ethernet cable that I thought I would need in order to do it. Is that even possible?? If so, how would I go about doing that?
Now, I have tried to share the files wirelessly but for some reason when I pick up the workgroup on the ubuntu laptop and enter the password in order to connect to the windows laptop it says my password is wrong, when I know for a fact that it is not. I know I can transfer files with a flash drive and what not but I want to try to get this working.
i installed unix services for windows 3.5 on a windows xp pro box and it installed fine. I configured nfs on the debian box and exported the ip of the client computer and forwarded port 2049 correctly. I followed the instructions for setting up teh nfs client on windows. However whenever i go to tools->map network drive and type in the server-domain-name:/file-address it says it cannot connect?

View 14 Replies View RelatedMy network comprises three PC's .... Windows XP, Windows 98SE and Ubuntu 9.04 running SAMBA. All PC's are configured WORKGROUP=WORKGROUP. The network connection To/From XP/UBUNTU via SAMBA Shares works perfectly OK. However, despite scouring all forum information regarding changes to Win98 ENCRYPTION, (Registry change re: DWORD "EnablePlainTextPasswords"), the Win98 PC refuses to connect to UBUNTU. The UBUNTU PC can conect to all the Win98 shared folders OK. I have disabled my Linux Firewall (Firestarter), I have run SMBCLIENT to check the user password for Win98 and it is validated OK. The Win98 error message is ....

I just installed Ubuntu 9.10 and its great. However when I connect to the internet at home it shows that the connection has been established but I still cant connect to the internet. My flatmates are all able to connect. However, I am able to connect from work both wirelessly and through an ethernet cable.
View 2 Replies View Relatedi ve been a thorough user of ubuntu and one reason for me using windows is that office uses a windows based software. i ve been lucky to install the same on my laptop and executing it using wine. the hitch is that whatever i work on the laptop doesnt get updated in the server. is there a mapping needed or some extra configuration ? the documents i post on my laptop is visible within the software but its not shown up on server database.

sudo su was not originally in the steps but it wouldn't give me permission to edit the samba file unless I did.Also at the end it said command not found or something like that when I tried to restart samba, so I just logged out and then back in.So now I can identify Ubuntu and Win 7 from on each other, but I can not access either of them. Ubuntu goes into windows network, then workgroup, shows the computers on the network but when I try to access one this comes up:When windows tries to access Ubuntu it request for username and password. I type it in but it does not recognize it.
P.S. I allowed the Documents folder on Ubunto to share across the Network, and while it shows up in along with myshare on Win 7, it still requests for username and password.
