I have an iBook G4 running Debian Lenny. I was wondering, is there anyway to connect to the internet while on a Windows network at school over Ethernet using smbclient? I have both GNOME 2.22 and LXDE .5 on the machine.
View 3 RepliesI setup a network bridge on pc A, with windows 7 installed on it, using windows default bridging tool. I connected computer B to computer A and Im trying to connect to the internet through the network bridge on computer A. Computer B (client) has two OS's installed, win XP and linux(tried with different distributions, didnt work). On windows XP everything is working, when i try to ping the router (after computer A) it also responds. On linux system nothing is working, and im not quite sure why.
I set up linux to receive IP adress from DHCP, which is router in this case (behind computer A), same way windows XP was configured. I decided to ask here, because I couldn't find anything on the net. My guess is windows-made bridge supports only windows-OS's but that would be kind of strange (its just a software bridge).
I just installed Ubuntu server edition on to an old Dell desktop. The only problem is that I can't get the Internet to work. I have tried the following and I guess it doesn't work:

Each of those commands don't give me any error and it would seem like everything works fine, until I try to ping google or any website and I get an error that tells me that no host was found. I am using version 10.04 of Ubuntu server.
I have a wireless router, but my desktop computer is connecting to it, or maybe to the modem, by an Ethernet cable. It has a built-in wireless card, so just as an experiment, I tried to connect to my network wirelessly. It didn't work. And not only did I not get any internet connection, I can't get any internet through the wired connection either. The internet works fine with Windows Vista (I'm dual-booting), as well as when I boot up Backtrack off of a Live DVD. I can still access my router's config page by going to 192.168.2.1 on a web browser, but I can't access anything else.

I just want to use Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) to connect to the internet. I have done a massive amount of troubleshooting, but some of it seems to contradict itself, and the only two things that I know for sure are that it used to work, and that my Ethernet cable is not the problem. When I use Terminal utilities like ifup and dhclient it seems that it can not determine IP information, but when I try to put it in manually, the "Apply" button grays out right after I finish typing it in. When I try to connect normally, in KDE or GNOME, the icon acts like it's connecting, then instead of having the connected icon, I receive a notification that "the network has been disconnected", and it goes back to the disconnected icon.
Oh, and by the way, I know that I could probably find a workaround, but I have limited resources, and this used to work. The Linux is a Dell desktop with Fedora 12 and the Windows is a Windows 7 HP laptop.EDIT: I hope that I didn't mess something up, but I accidentally used system-network-config to try putting in the IP address there, and ended up changing it back to the original settings, but the computer is now calling it Auto Ethernet in the taskbar icon, although sudo iwconfig in the terminal still calls it eth0.
I have a beefy Win Box desktop that i'm using as a media server and i have a home network setup already using windows xp. I had everything running fine and the PC connects flawlessly to my Bravia TV and both my ps3's so i know the network and sharing settings are setup just fine. Anyways i got tired of all the Windows 7 BS and decided i would once again use Ubuntu on my Toshiba netbook. So the question is how in the heck do i get my Ubuntu netbook to connect to the Desktop? I've tried browsing the fourms but either i'm missing something of just a little slow. What "extensions" would i need to get and how would i go about implementing it from there?

I have installed Fedora 8 on an old PC to use as a home network and I am having trouble getting a Windows PC running XP to get through to the internet, but I am able to access the internet from the Linux box with no issues. I can ping the gateway on eth0 from the Linux box, but I can't ping it from the windows PC. I am able to ping the IP address for eth0 from the Windows PC. My internet gateway is a modem/router from Hughes net. I also have a Netgear router between the Linux box and the Windows PC, but there doesn't appear to be any issues because I can ping both NICs from the Windows PC. On my windows, my schools provide me the disc which contains several .cer files and a automated batch files to copy the .cer files to the root folders. I can choose to use the other network but in using that, i have to manually connect compared to using the spwireless. Anyway, my problem is that, how do i add the .cer files and to where so when i connect to the network it will look there for the cert. Because when i manually connect, only one cer can be chosen.

View 9 Replies View RelatedCurrently my office use a Cisco Firewall which will only allow the ANYCONNECT utility to do the vpn connection. I found a Linux utility (OpenConnect) which will do the same thing, but allow me more flexibility with my networking needs.What I ultimately would like to have is to have a switch that I can connect any network device into it and be connected to the office. IE (my IP Work Phone and Computer) Currently I have is a computer with fedora 13 and two network cards eth0 (home network - connected to a router) and eth1 which I would like to connect a switch to. OpenConnect communicates fine and I can see the work network from the Fedora machine. It creates a vpn0 tun/tap device and I don't know how to pass communication to/from the eth1 device.
Do I try to iptables the ports for the phone and services I need on the computer? Or do I build bridge; and If I do what am I bridging. I have tried making a bridge from eth1 to vpn0 which reply's with unsupported device or something like that.Unfortunately my network skills are bit limited and my office says "it can't be done". Their solution is for me to buy a ASA5505 (or something device) and have a static IP. I would have to make it work as my router and even then it will only DHCP 10 ip addresses; which will cause a shortage of IP addresses in the house.

I am trying to connect to Internet using Wavecome modem with Airtel GPRS connection. I am able to successfully connect and browse the Internet using wvdial. But if I use pppd, I am getting the error message as "LCP Terminated by peer".

I had an ubuntu 10.4 box, I used it mainly for programming, virtualization & other stuff. I've installed this box about 1 month ago, working on it everyday. About 2 days ago problem appeared when I just opened up firefox for cheking my E-Mail. I typed : [URL]. & nothing appeared & I just seen the famous firefox page when a networking problem is around . I just wondered and checked the connectivity & the wire itself, but find no problem around them, while playing with firefox I just had a turned on virtualBox machine (Windows XP service Pack 3), I just checked the internet within vm & working fine, I checked my e-mail from vm (windows xp), I thought restarting the system might help to solve the problem but damn, problem didn't solved & still arounds Well, I searched through websites dedicated to linux networking & forums that might help, I did anything that faced to my brain , follow another people recipes but problem did't solved for about 3 days ! Playing with primary & alternative dns didn't help, I did my best about solving the problem, disabling ipv6 from both linux networking settings & firefox itself didn't help also . After that, I thought reinstalling the linux might help to solving the problem, but install a new version of ubuntu, 10.10, I tried it, install it but the holyshit problem still arounds ! I think this might be a bug on ubuntu distro, I tried Mint 10 & the same problem, reinstalling x64 version of fedora core & the same problem .It's interesting that the same settings for TD-8101G TP-Link working fine for my Windows XP, Windows 7 x64 & the problem is arounds just for my linux distros .As I said I checked the internet for the problem & found nothing workable for me. I thought it's better to describe the problem & maybe another people faced with that problem .

My server can not connect to the internet. The network card is obviously connecting to the network since I can access the server locally with SSH or HTTP. While in the terminal for the server, I type wget google.com and the server can not find the specified host, so this leaves me to believe it can not access the internet.
