Feb 17, 2011sometimes our ADSL connection gives up and we are left without internet connection for days until the problem gets fixed. I mean by this problem along the phone line. It affects all machines that connect to the internet through a Netgear WIFI Modem Router. I recently tried an alternative when this happens is to use a USB Huawei Mobile Broadband UMTS connection which works when you insert it in 1 laptop. Is there a way i could get the Netgear WIFI modem router to connect on that usb stick or PC that is online on that usb stick and give access to other machines that will want to connect to the web ?

Jan 23, 2010The problem is that when I connect my phone to my machine FC11 x64 via USB and use the phone as a modem NetworkManager does not recognise the phone as a modem. The phone works well on my laptop which is FC11 32bit system, NetworkManager detects it and sets it up as eth2 and away I go, no problems at all. I would like to ask the community how can I go fault finding to find out why it does not work. #lsusb shows that the modem is being detected by the system but beyond this I don't know where to look and get things going.

Jul 27, 2011I recently purchased a Spice 3G phone, which can also be used as a Modem. When I plug it into the USB, the phone starts charging.But when I go to Edit Connections--> Mobile Broadband, I cannot see the MODEM there. The Select the device is not highlighted.

Feb 2, 2011Ist column shows different customers( like N customers are there) , they require different bandwidht links based on some resolution time will be generated and we have to fix this line with in this resolution time , if not before 1 hr for each customer , this has to genetate some alarm and send the SMS to the particular mobile numbers.everythig is there in the GUI like customer , how much BW they want and what is the time duration , only thing we have to do is ,, linking with the GUi and writing some code to send the generated alarms to the mobile numbers specified.

labeled ACM-001. The chipset is Qualcom. It didn't work on My Karmic Koala nor Lucid Lynx. I try to check some condition by writing some command in shell prompt like: tail -f /var/log/messages, lsusb, and modprobe. Here is the results.

Apr 9, 2011I have a t-mobile webconnect usb modem.Bus 002 Device 005: ID 19d2:1203 ONDA Communication S.p.A. its not recognized immediately,i have to eject it first,then it starts up.i can tell its working by the led,first it turns green,then dark blue(scanning for the network)blinking,then when it finds the network it turns light blue.and im connected.but then it changes back to dark blue,and i cant connect.so no internet.i did some searching on the forums and google,but nothing seems to work?the network mgr.recognizes it and it shows up as connected.here are some terminal commands i tried.

Jan 4, 2010I've been trying to get a USB modem stick to work with Karmic.The modem is the ZTE MF626 HSDPA on a Telstra Next G plan.I've followed all the guides and links on the forums:Have deactivated the CD autorun on the USB stick in XP lsusb is showing "Bus 002 Device 003:ID 19d2:0031 ONDA Communication S.p.A." demsg is showing "usb 2-2: GSM modem (1-port) converter now attached to ttyUSB1"This seems stable as well, ie checking periodically it doesn't seem to be disconnecting By the way,the blue light indicating network communication/modem active lights up after the device has been plugged in for a second or so.
When I go through Network Connections and add a new mobile broadband connection, there is nothing listed in the "Create a connection for this mobile broadband device" drop-down on the first configuration screen - all the guides I've read say that it should be listed here, but none say any debug steps if it doesn't.Some other guides for older versions of Ubuntu and earlier versions of the modem reference a "/usr/share/hal/fdi/information/20thirdparty/20-zte-mf626.fdi"file which I don't have.

All I have is an ethernet cable given to me,and when plugged in a windows machine and fire a browser am redirected to default login page where i can login, but when i plug it into my linux machine,i cant get the same done. In network connections it doesnt shows my autoeth0, i have deleted my existing dsl settings(not autoeth0),made a new wired network,i doubt what should i put into MAC addrs field(i have put my machines mac given by lshw -c network.) What should I put in DHCP client id? Anyways when i click on network connections it says under my wired connections-device not configured properly.

May 22, 2011I've recently installed Natty and the only problem I have with it so far is attempting to connect my Huawei E5830 Three Wireless modem via USB and successfully connecting to the Internet from it. I've fiddled around with the network settings and nothing, I've also done some work in the Terminal to try and correct the problem.

Apr 25, 2009I was recently asked to get a 3G ZTE 633 modem (not in stores) to connect to the internet whenever it was plugged in. I had it successfully working on my Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon machine but it does not work on Fedora 10 which is where it is required to work. When the 3G modem is plugged in I use a Udev rule to run usb_modeswitch which changes it from being in usb storage mode to being in modem mode. This part works fine. I then run a second udev rule (on the modem device), this should run a script which connects to the internet. Unfortunately it falls over here. The script does run but it will not connect. However if I run the script manually from root it works fine. I guess that it is a permissions issue.
The device permissions are:

One thing to note is that there are three udev devices associated with the modem. They are ttyUSB0, ttyUSB1 and ttyUSB2. I use ttyUSB2 to talk to the modem when connecting. Here are the files. If you require any more let me know:

So what am I missing? I suppose it is related to device permissions. Why does the "mode" command not work? With what rights do udev rules run?

Mar 8, 2010I am trying to switch to mobile broadband, Ubuntu 9.10, Huawei E1750 modem, provider Telia Sweden. So far I tried this:
(previous: tried to get started with an Option Icon 550 modem, but could not do it. Ubuntu froze completely, networkmanager refused to see the modem after this. Read somewhere that it is (next to) impossible with Ubuntu, but Huawei is a better chance. Maybe I changed some settings on the way, went and got a Huawei)
-connected modem, nothing happened
-rebooted to Windows Vista, installed modem
-rebooted to Ubuntu networkmanager sees the modem, when I select it, it gives a message 'GSM network, disconnected'
Also: Ububtu sees the usb stick as a folder

Oct 28, 2010I tried to use multiple mobile broadband modems in ubuntu 10.10 and encounter a bug as follows:
When i plug in a new modem, all the attached modem is automatic go offline ( thus my connection is down), and try to redial back, sometime the redial is successful, sometime it's not.
It was working fine in ubuntu 9.10, plug in a new modem, all attached modems stay connected.

Feb 4, 2011I have a k3806-z vodafone mobile broadband modem, on ubuntu 10.04. I have added the mobile broadband connection with the network manager wizard. But network manager does not list my connection. I installed usb-modeswitch and usb-modeswitch-data. Still nothing. The disc utility tells me it recognises the modem as a cd drive and a storage device. Evidently usb-modeswitch is not working.

Sep 13, 2010I have two dual-booted Windows/Ubuntu machines--one desktop and one laptop--and both have SSH servers installed. At home, I use port-forwarding to connect to these servers externally.
I am interested however, in being able to connect to my laptop's ssh server no matter where it is. I am interested in this partly due to anti-theft precautions and partly just curiosity. I know there is anti theft software that lets you remotely modify your computer--from ANY IP address--and I want to know if you can do this with SSH. Imagine someone stole my laptop and connected to the internet in a random location. Assuming i somehow know this ip address, is there any way I could SSH to it? (I doubt the router would forward port 22 or whatever to this computer...)
