I am "fleshing out" my USB flash drive Netbook Remix of Ubuntu and have run into a snag on getting Mplayer Movie Encoder to work. Synaptics eventually showed 28 new packages will be installed which was done. But, the skin showing the "controls" (fast forward, pause etc) is dead. I am using the USB flash on a HP desktop and all other Remix features work well. Plus the Nvidea gui card fills my 19" flat screen exquisitely well. And, the stick works very nicely on my Acer Netbook (aspire one 250) too.
I just(4 hours ago at this writing) installed 10.04 LTS LL on my Toshiba Satellite. I transfered a few albums from my external HDD, to my laptop, and opened Rhythmbox. First, as usual with a new install, I had to dl Gstreamer, and some other plugins, to allow the program to properly play mp3's. This was done with no problems, of any kind, but I then found that, once a song began to play, I was unable to skip ahead in the track.
videos/hulu/etc. are suddenly screwed up. i get no sound and the videos all play in fast forward. i'm assuming i missed the solution to this in one of the many ginormous threads on here...can anyone point me in the right direction?
After working properly for over a year my videos started playing in fast forward. This can be on the internet (as in wwww.wimp.com) or my video clips located on my hard drive.
Also, on a different note my volume control stopped working. My keyboard has a volume control wheel that I used to use to control the volume of music and videos. First it gave out on my side and continued to work on my wife's side and now it doesn't work on ether. (the volume level bar pops up on the screen but doesn't affect the output) (The volume can still be controlled with the mouse though by clicking on the volume bar on whatever web page I am looking at.)
Every music or video player I use there is the same problem, I can't fast forvard the song. the seeker is grey and I can't move it so I can't move the slider to, for example, to middle of the song.
I have been running mediatomb for a short while, mainly to play my CD collection on the internet radio. The served is a x86_64 running OpenSuSE 11.1On jan 4 it ceased to work; the /usr/bin.mediatomb file vanished, and eversince I have been unable to get it going. i am using sqlite version.Anyone else got this proble? And even more importantly, how do i get the thing working again? I seem t have lost the db as well and it is not regenerating either
i've looked at serveral post all over the net but still can't get subtitles (.str files) to bind with the stream on mediatomb.
Mediatomb works fine with out the subtitle transcoding profile, but when added and mediatomb is restarted using sudo /etc/init.d/mediatomb restart I get the response "Fail" and Mediatomb will not start. If I change <transcoding enabled="yes"> to "no" then mediatomb works fine
Below is my config.xml
Quote:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <config version="1" xmlns="url . url xsi:schemaLocation="url 1 url <!-- Read /usr/share/doc/mediatomb-common/README.gz section 6 for more code....
I can play mp3, ..... etc. fine on gnome. However on kde, they always play at 3x or 4x speed. In fact, they just run through, not producing any sound. I can see the video zipping past on ...... Is there a setting for this on kde, that needs to be fixed?
I just upgraded from Ubuntu 10.10 (64 bit) from Ubuntu 10.04 (64 bit) on my Samsung R580 laptop [URL] So far all my hardware seems to be working except the laptop's integrated camera. In 10.04 the camera worked and I could use the program "Cheese" to take photos and videos with the camera. In 10.10 I installed Cheese and tried to use my laptop's camera but it didn't work. I installed all the available updates for 10.10 but still the camera wouldn't work. The only information about the camera on the laptop's webpage is that it is a 1.3 MP Web Camera.
I just installed a minimal Debian Testing on a USB stick to be used with my Samsung N220 netbook. I installed X and noticed that about half of the keys are not working. I fail to find any configuration tips on google
I had this setup and working before with some help, so I know it is possible.I want to use Mediatomb to transcode a Shoutcast NSV stream on the fly so I can watch it on my Playstation. I know I can use both mencoder/mplayer and VLC for the transcoding.I am running Ubuntu server 9.04 with the latest Mediatomb from the repo.
Thanks to a previous post by a member here I got mediatomb up and running. However when I attempt to add my (username) file to the directory to access from my phone I get the "permissions denied" prompt. Is there any way to allow access for MediaTomb so I can access my files?
I installed Lucid on my Samsung NB30 netbook. The problem is the wireless. I managed to get it switched on by using the "easy-slow-down-manager" [URL].. It loads the r8192_pci module, but it does not work. listing the network hardware comes up with: *-network DISABLED I tried to install the windows driver with ndiswrapper. The problem here is that although I created a blacklist-rtwireless.conf file, the system stubbornly loads r8192_pci and wireless does not work.
I am very new to Ubuntu or any Linux for that matter. I am tring to get Mediatomb to work on my system. I have installed the packages and mediatomb appears to be running fine. The problem is that I have an external hard drive that I want my files to be kept on. When I try to add the folders on the external I get the following error:Error: Could not list directory /media/TeraByte : Permission Denied.TeraByte is the name of the volume, I have created shared folders on the Volume, but I can't seem to get anywhere with this
I know this has been talked about a lot but im not quite understanding how to handle it. I have mediatomb i turn my ps3 on search for server pick it up I can play all of my .avi files fine but when i go into audio > All audio it just says there are no titles so that the mp3 files show up and i can play them. And as well why does mediatomb not work when the terminal is not open. I open terminal type mediatomb then when i close it says disconnected from media server.
I have been using media tomb for a long time now to stream HD movies to the PS3 , its worked perfectly....until now . I use MKV2VOB so the PS3 can play the video and so mediatomb has no transcoding to do. But now when i add the video to the media tomb database the PS3 finds the server, can search through all the folders but when i arrive at the place where the movie should be it says there are no videos. I have been looking about and trying to see what the problem could be. I have checked that <protocolInfo extend="yes"/> is added to the server config file and thats about all i can find on the problem. The thing i don't understand is that i have changed nothing, and that the server must be running as i can search the folders etc.
I have run into this problem that really bugs me now.
I have installed mediatomb on my Ubuntu box, and it has been working fine for a while now.
This morning I installed 'Gnome subtitles', and had to wrestle a bit with is to make i work (gstreamer-stuff).
Now all of a sudden, my good old mediatomb has begun to seg-fault on importing new videos.
I have tried the following:
run ffmpeg -i -> no errors run ffmpegthumbnail -> no errors disable all transcoding in config.xml -> no fun disable thumbnails in config.xml -> no fun switch to mysql DB - tables are created all right, but still -> no fun
I have installed Kubuntu Lucid on my Samsung NB30 netbook. Got everything working, but the disk access seems extremely slow and noisy. Whenever larger files are being processed (software installation), the disk makes a kind of rattling sound - looks like the head is moving back and forth between two or more locations. The disk seems o.k. so far - no io errors under Linux and Windows XP boots without problems.
I have a problem with mediatomb. I installed it from official ubuntu repo and when someone is trying to get some audio files via UPnP there are visible only namefiles istead of title from tags. It strange because MediaTomb provides album covers from tags, but no album, genre or title. How do I configure that ? MediaTomb from repo has taglib support but no id3lib.
I'm doing an install for a friend, the machine is a Gateway with AMD Turion64. The install required the 64 bit version of Lucid 10.04 RC. When I try to install the NVIDIA hardware driver, upon reboot, it flickers, fails, and tells me to use low-setting graphics mode.
i upgraded to lucid, but now my video has stopped working... videos and iplayer work fine. the problem is with any videos (mp4, flv) opened in vlc or mplayer. i can hear sound fine but the screen is black. the same happens in skype. i followed the comprehensive guide and did all the steps, but no joy.
My sound in Lucid was working fine (for months), and then, for no obvious reason, it stopped working today. I get no sound from any application. I have no idea what could have changed on my system to cause this. When I re-boot Lucid, the login sound plays, and sound works briefly, but it always stops eventually after I login.I am overwhelmed by the large number of different Ubuntu sound problem fixes
I have just installed Lucid Lynx but cannot get K9copy to work at all. It loads, but closes as soon as I try to open the dvd. Anyone else getting similar problems, or, more to the point, does anyone know how to fix it?
I have a Zotac IONITX-F-E motherboard (Intel Atom Dual Core 1.6 GHz + Nvidia ION) -based box with Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit installed. Do you or does someone you know have the same setup as I do? If so, do they have 1080p video playback working? If so, what driver are they using? I've tried following every guide I could find, but no luck so far. I have libvdpau1 and libvdpau-dev installed. I have the nvidia 195.36.24 driver installed (I used the nvidia installer). I have mplayer installed (which I compiled from source with --enable-vdpau).
I try to run mplayer with this command: Code: mplayer -vo vdpau -vc ffh264vdpau path/to/myfile.mkv
I get the following message in my terminal: Code: Error opening/initializing the selected video_out (-vo) device. I have libvdpau-dev and libvdpau1 installed.
After Googling this problem, I found a post that suggested the following steps: Code: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nvidia-vdpau sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install nvidia-glx-195 nvidia-195-modaliases
It turns out that I had already added the nvidia-vdpau repository. However, despite that, I get: Code: E: Couldn't find package nvidia-glx-195 The same problem exists for the nvidia-195-modaliases package. Do these packages exist? Is there some other way to get them?
Summary: a long-working config involving a 1st-generation Ipod Touch with v1 firmware, Ubuntu, and Amarok 1.4 stopped working when I upgraded to Lucid.
A few years ago I was given a 1st-generation Ipod Touch, running the original v1 firmware (I never upgraded to the v2 firmware because v2 wasn't jailbroken at the time). I took it to a friend's place to activate and jailbreak it with her Mac laptop (I didn't have a Mac or Windows machine to install Itunes on; have been Linux-only for many years). Once jailbroken, I was happily able to use it with Hardy, Amarok 1.4, and ipod-convenience (which supply ipod-touch-mount/ipod-touch-umount).
This continued through upgrades to Intrepid and Jaunty. I didn't care for Amarok 2 in Jaunty, so I installed Amarok 1.4 from the ppa someone else made available. I continued to use it through Jaunty and Karmic, without any problems.
Last week I upgraded to Lucid. Syncing Amarok 1.4 to the Ipod Touch no longer appears to work; the Ipod fails to recognize any music transferred onto it (standard "No Music - you can buy music at Itunes" error screen), so I presume this is a libgpod/hash error. I have the FirewireGuid properly set in the .../Device/SysInfo file, as I always have.
Every time I use the Amarok Ipod "connect" function (which runs ipod-touch-mount) it tells me no valid Itunes db was found, and asks to initialize the db. I can then transfer music to the Ipod, and successfully disconnect, but it's not recognized on the Ipod after a respring or reboot.
I've tried RhythmBox and gtkpod briefly with no luck either.
Relevant installed packages:
Code: ii amarok14 2:1.4.10-0ubuntu3~ppa5 Amarok 1.4 series ii amarok14-common 2:1.4.10-0ubuntu3~ppa5 architecture independent files for Amarok
[Code]....
Edit: a little more info: after I let Amarok initialize the Ipod Touch and transfer a song to it, the iTunes.db that gets created on the Ipod is 0 bytes long. I presume this is the source of the problem, and indicates something is going wrong with libgpod's creation/editing of the db.
what I should do from here? I've tried removing the DB by hand, but it makes no difference - the subsequent operation to initialize the db results in the same 0-byte file.
I just bought a samsung r580 laptop. this is the first time i've ever owned a laptop. I have owned a pc with ubuntu 8.04 installed on it and the internet worked trouble free. Now I have windows 7 and ubuntu 9.10 dual booted on my samsung r580. I used wubi to install and the internet works fine in windows but will not work in ubuntu. I have been trying to get this to work for about 5 hours now
