How can I have mediatomb access my music and video folders? When I attempt to access "Music" for example, going through /home, I receive this error:
"Error: could not list directory /home/samwise : Permission denied"
Is there a way to give permission to mediatomb to access them? Or is there a way to access them another route because they are shared?
I have been using media tomb for a long time now to stream HD movies to the PS3 , its worked perfectly....until now . I use MKV2VOB so the PS3 can play the video and so mediatomb has no transcoding to do. But now when i add the video to the media tomb database the PS3 finds the server, can search through all the folders but when i arrive at the place where the movie should be it says there are no videos. I have been looking about and trying to see what the problem could be. I have checked that <protocolInfo extend="yes"/> is added to the server config file and thats about all i can find on the problem. The thing i don't understand is that i have changed nothing, and that the server must be running as i can search the folders etc.
I am running Ubuntu 9.10 and mediatomb v0.12
I am thinking of buying a router with a usb port where you can plug a hard disk and have ftp access on it. Would it be possible to listen to the music files or play the videos directly from the disk, instead of having to copy them locally every time?
View 3 Replies View Relatedi've looked at serveral post all over the net but still can't get subtitles (.str files) to bind with the stream on mediatomb.
Mediatomb works fine with out the subtitle transcoding profile, but when added and mediatomb is restarted using sudo /etc/init.d/mediatomb restart I get the response "Fail" and Mediatomb will not start. If I change <transcoding enabled="yes"> to "no" then mediatomb works fine

I am trying to configure mpd (music player daemon) to access my music files that are stored on a windows server (NAS).
In the mpd configuration file I have to point to the directory in which the music is.
How do I do that? Is it something to do with mount?
Which program allows us to listen to music by folders?
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen i mouse over to places/home, desktop, documents, music, pictures, videos, or downloads my music player (Banshee) opens. I had the same problem with Rhythmbox. Anyone else having this problem? To open one of the aforementioned folders, I go to Places/Computer and navigate from there. That sequence works, no problem. Also, don't know if its related but, tied "file manager" button to Docky and it won't open any of my folders.

The drive mounts successfully in Linux and I can manually play tracks from it, but I don't seem to be able to point Rhythmbox or Banshee to the drive or to folders on the driveto add them to their libraries. Is there any way to do this? Otherwise I'll have to begin the very long process of juggling files between hard drives until I have enough free space to format one of them

So my question is, is there any way I can use the iTunes Store on Ubuntu? I looked at PyMusique, but it no longer works with iTunes, as well as many other things. Would it be possible to install an older version of iTunes that worked with WINE and use the store from there?

View 4 Replies View Related1-When entering a music CD, video or files, any programs or music or video players and desktop are closed are removed all the icons and I can not open any program only on firefox, I can not see the files or anything . (NOTE CD-rom is in mint condition)
2-I graphics effects ruin the entire desktop and when it is in fact no graphic still looks bad everything looks pixelated or striped like when flex is damaged or something is damaged and is in perfect condition.
Now I'm going with the version 10.04 of ubuntu:
1-I have the same problem with the CD I had in 9.10, except that in the 10/04 I can open some programs with the Emphaty and monitor systems.
2-When you close the laptop when I open the screen looks as if the flex embers damaged or broken screen (when it is of course) and I have no other to reset it.
3-When you drive about 30 minutes using computed with any open programs (Firefox, Emphaty, emesene, movie player, Gnome player) to close it or minimize it gets super slow and sometimes if I Friza and then to turn it off and repeat history.
4-When I'm watching a movie or a video with movie player is super slow (just what I'm playing does not the OS) as if Lageado and stuff. But with Gnome looks pretty good player just the video looks very small and I can not put it full screen. Certainly in a Dell Latitude C610 Pentium III-Processor: 1000/700mhz-Memory: 512MB Graphics-Card: 16mb.
I had this setup and working before with some help, so I know it is possible.I want to use Mediatomb to transcode a Shoutcast NSV stream on the fly so I can watch it on my Playstation. I know I can use both mencoder/mplayer and VLC for the transcoding.I am running Ubuntu server 9.04 with the latest Mediatomb from the repo.

I have installed the packages and mediatomb appears to be running fine. The problem is that I have an external hard drive that I want my files to be kept on. I have mediatomb i turn my ps3 on search for server pick it up I can play all of my .avi files fine but when i go into audio > All audio it just says there are no titles so that the mp3 files show up and i can play them. And as well why does mediatomb not work when the terminal is not open. I open terminal type mediatomb then when i close it says disconnected from media server.

I have installed mediatomb on my Ubuntu box, and it has been working fine for a while now.
This morning I installed 'Gnome subtitles', and had to wrestle a bit with is to make i work (gstreamer-stuff).
Now all of a sudden, my good old mediatomb has begun to seg-fault on importing new videos.
I have tried the following:
run ffmpeg -i -> no errors
run ffmpegthumbnail -> no errors
disable all transcoding in config.xml -> no fun
disable thumbnails in config.xml -> no fun
switch to mysql DB - tables are created all right, but still -> no fun

At the moment I use Rhythmbox to acces my music and my iPod 5G. I would however like to use Banshee, but in Banshee all my iPod 5G-music is displayed under the video folder, while the music folder is empty. Any idea why?And also I have several albums with different artists on them, which gets spread out on i.e. 10 single albums even though they belong to the same album. This happens - as far as I can tell - after I've accessed the iPod from Rhythmbox (which is part of the reason why I wanna use Banshee).

The served is a x86_64 running OpenSuSE 11.1On jan 4 it ceased to work; the /usr/bin.mediatomb file vanished, and eversince I have been unable to get it going. i am using sqlite version.Anyone else got this proble? And even more importantly, how do i get the thing working again? I seem t have lost the db as well and it is not regenerating either

I installed it from official ubuntu repo and when someone is trying to get some audio files via UPnP there are visible only namefiles istead of title from tags. It strange because MediaTomb provides album covers from tags, but no album, genre or title. How do I configure that ? MediaTomb from repo has taglib support but no id3lib.

My music directory is a mess with folder names. Not a big deal since I use Banshee to library everything. I have a fairly large music collection on my main hard drive(140gb) but I keep id3 tags clean.
I'm setting up an ftp server and it will be impossible to navigate the way the folders are now.
Something similar for movies would be cool too.
i followed this thread and got mediatomb on my ubuntu 10.04 lucid running. i have a samsung UE-32B7020 tv.
the only problem is that for .avi and .mp4 movies (these are the ones i tried), fast forward and rewind do not work. transcoding is not enabled.
I have no sound after upgrading to 11.04. Sound control panel and test speakers emits no sound. The new music player won't play sounds from music CDs either.

Everything was going fine until about an hour ago. I havnt changed any settings on the computer. I can't open any folders, they all give a "File not found" error. Also some pics in Firefox have inverted colors. I doubt they are related though. Im running 10.10 and have been for about 2 weeks. I am completely new to linux prior to downloading this.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've had an awkward problem lately: every music player I use wants to instead of play music from my USB external hard drive, stream music from it. I have no idea why it suddenly started doing that. It may have been an accidental key-combo I pressed, thinking I had another window targeted and didn't bother pressing it again for my Totem music player. So I closed out of Totem in hopes that Rythmbox would work like totem used to. Well, it doesn't. It wants to stream music now.The problem with the streaming music is trivial, but here it is: I have a playlist with a little over 300 songs. I have Totem set to shuffle and repeat my music. Streaming music with it makes it just stop randomly after a few songs, and when I try to pause music and play it later it takes a good 30 seconds before it kicks back in at the beginning of the song.Like I always ask because I don't know enough to give back to the community yet, can anyone help me?
