May 16, 2010I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04 and recorded a screencast with gtk-recordMyDesktop. Upon completion of the recording I attempted to convert the OGV file to an AVI, for ease of editing purposes, using WinFF.(And yes, I have installed libavcodec-unstripped-52) The result was an incredibly annoying error message Which stated:

Everything installed and the program works but when I add a file and pick presets and hit convert the terminal pops up and says the following:

So I press Enter and the terminal closes, than... nothing happens just staring at the winff screen.
I really have no idea where to go with this. I found a link from the forums earlier on these common crashes but cant seem to find it again.

Nov 9, 2010I am running 10.10 64-bit and am trying to get an option in WinFF to convert an MPEG file to an iPod compatible video. All of the HOT_TO guides I could find involve installing the FFmpeg libraries, which I have done as well as I could have.The problem is that within WinFF, I don't see anything different in the "Convert To ..." drop-down. The Wiki I am reading tells me to select iPod, but this isn't available.What do I need to do to get this to be selectable?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Cannot Properly Burn CDs And DVDs After Lucid Update
Jun 1, 2010Since updating to Lucid I have not been able to properly burn DVDs and CDs. I have looked everywhere for a solution to this and have been able to get some functionality but not full functionality. I am using Brasero as I find it nice and easy to use. I read somewhere to get libburn4. Since I did that, I managed to Burn an Audio CD, and today I have managed to Burn an ISO of Ubuntu 10.04, so that is at least some function back.
I cannot burn Data CDs or DVDs. I have a few .avi files I wanted to burn on a Data Disc as burning as a movie to DVD means that I would have to waste loads of discs. I can't seem to burn any Data DVDs. To check that this wasn't just a dodgey blank disk I have tried burning data CDs using lots of albums on the CD. Still no luck. What seems to happen is that it generates a checksum then the box with estimated time remaining, write speed and progress comes up. It hangs for a minute then spits the disk out.

Sep 19, 2010Recently (after the new version iPlayer was released I guess) I have been unable to download IPlayer content. On going to download, the IPlayer screen offers to install the IPlayer Desktop app, tries to install Air (already installed via Software Centre) and fails with a message like "A download error occurred. Try to download again?". Repeating just loops around to the same error message.
This happens on both my PC and laptop - both running Lucid. Have tried uninstalling the Iplayer app and Air, but still the same happens. Any suggestions, or do I have to wait for the Beeb to get it sorted?

I had the same error with earlier versions of WinFF in earlier versions of OpenSUSE. Then I could fix it by changing the KDE window styles. The error also occurs with the WinFF qt-version.

Apr 28, 2010I'm doing an install for a friend, the machine is a Gateway with AMD Turion64. The install required the 64 bit version of Lucid 10.04 RC. When I try to install the NVIDIA hardware driver, upon reboot, it flickers, fails, and tells me to use low-setting graphics mode.

Do you or does someone you know have the same setup as I do? If so, do they have 1080p video playback working? If so, what driver are they using? I've tried following every guide I could find, but no luck so far. I have libvdpau1 and libvdpau-dev installed. I have the nvidia 195.36.24 driver installed (I used the nvidia installer). I have mplayer installed (which I compiled from source with --enable-vdpau).
I try to run mplayer with this command:

It turns out that I had already added the nvidia-vdpau repository. However, despite that, I get:

Jun 8, 2010Summary: a long-working config involving a 1st-generation Ipod Touch with v1 firmware, Ubuntu, and Amarok 1.4 stopped working when I upgraded to Lucid.
A few years ago I was given a 1st-generation Ipod Touch, running the original v1 firmware (I never upgraded to the v2 firmware because v2 wasn't jailbroken at the time). I took it to a friend's place to activate and jailbreak it with her Mac laptop (I didn't have a Mac or Windows machine to install Itunes on; have been Linux-only for many years). Once jailbroken, I was happily able to use it with Hardy, Amarok 1.4, and ipod-convenience (which supply ipod-touch-mount/ipod-touch-umount).
This continued through upgrades to Intrepid and Jaunty. I didn't care for Amarok 2 in Jaunty, so I installed Amarok 1.4 from the ppa someone else made available. I continued to use it through Jaunty and Karmic, without any problems.
Last week I upgraded to Lucid. Syncing Amarok 1.4 to the Ipod Touch no longer appears to work; the Ipod fails to recognize any music transferred onto it (standard "No Music - you can buy music at Itunes" error screen), so I presume this is a libgpod/hash error. I have the FirewireGuid properly set in the .../Device/SysInfo file, as I always have.
Every time I use the Amarok Ipod "connect" function (which runs ipod-touch-mount) it tells me no valid Itunes db was found, and asks to initialize the db. I can then transfer music to the Ipod, and successfully disconnect, but it's not recognized on the Ipod after a respring or reboot.
I've tried RhythmBox and gtkpod briefly with no luck either.

Edit: a little more info: after I let Amarok initialize the Ipod Touch and transfer a song to it, the iTunes.db that gets created on the Ipod is 0 bytes long. I presume this is the source of the problem, and indicates something is going wrong with libgpod's creation/editing of the db.
what I should do from here? I've tried removing the DB by hand, but it makes no difference - the subsequent operation to initialize the db results in the same 0-byte file.

Dec 5, 2010I am running 10.10 on a 21.5 inch imac. I just ran some updates and rebooted, turned on rhythmbox to play some tunes and realized there is no sound. Tried ....., no yield. Tried a different user account still no sound. SO I rebooted into osx and I have sound. Its therefore a software issue for sure. I plugged in headphones and changed to the appropriate output in the settings manager, sound came out, but out of phase. What going on here? any ideas would be awesome.
