Ubuntu Installation :: Lucid On Samsung NB30 - No Wireless?
Apr 30, 2010
I installed Lucid on my Samsung NB30 netbook. The problem is the wireless. I managed to get it switched on by using the "easy-slow-down-manager" [URL].. It loads the r8192_pci module, but it does not work. listing the network hardware comes up with: *-network DISABLED I tried to install the windows driver with ndiswrapper. The problem here is that although I created a blacklist-rtwireless.conf file, the system stubbornly loads r8192_pci and wireless does not work.
I have installed Kubuntu Lucid on my Samsung NB30 netbook. Got everything working, but the disk access seems extremely slow and noisy. Whenever larger files are being processed (software installation), the disk makes a kind of rattling sound - looks like the head is moving back and forth between two or more locations. The disk seems o.k. so far - no io errors under Linux and Windows XP boots without problems.
I have in a box of parts two wireless NICs, an Asus WL-1380G V2 and a Trendnet TEW-423PI C1.0R.
Googling shows that people have had a lot of trouble with these two NICs in older Ubuntu versions. Am I likely to have any success with either of them in Lucid?
Is there a list of supported wireless NICs for Lucid?
Does anyone have any recommendations for a choice of NIC?
After upgrading from Karmic to Lucid, no wireless networks are found on my computeran acer travelmate 5510. On Karmic, wifi worked flawlessly "out of the box"no windows drivers or anything needed. I have checked under Administration/hardware drivers; it tells me "no proprietary drivers are in use on this system." Cabled internet access through my wifi router works fine. How to get wifi up and running under Lucid. Despite having used Karmic for a while, I am relatively new to the inner workings of Ubuntu / linux systems, and really don't know where to go from here.
After installation, I had no problems using wireless. Next, I added a new user (with administrative access). Now, when I log in as the new user, nm-applet doesn't appear in the panel and there is no wireless access. I've tried adding the Notification Area (nothing appears), making sure that the new user can connect to networks, etc with no success. System Monitor shows that nm-applet is sleeping. When I restart and login as myself, everything is still working fine. Computer: Computer: Dell Latitude D600

What additional info should I provide to assist diagnosis?
I have a Netgear USB wireless NIC and neither Ubuntu or Lubuntu Live images can see it. I have tried copying wlan from another machine and installing the packages, but that doesn't work.
I recently seen a thread showing what the file is that is missing in the Lucid live images that was present on the Karmic and earlier images, but I can't find it nor remember what the file was called.
Recently, I installed a fresh 64bit Lucid Lynx on my Lenovo B450 laptop (previously on Mint8 64bit, based on Karmic). It's been really nice and speedy except for one thing - USB transfers to thumb drives and external hard drives were really slow (just like in the older Ubuntu releases). I had found some forum discussions on a fix to this by way of a kernel upgrade so I decided to go for it.
Went ahead and downloaded the kernel DEBs from [URL] and installed them. Voila! USB speed issue was fixed! Everything else seemed to work fine, except for some minor troubles with burning CDs and DVDs (I think I need to upgrade the drive's firmware - pretty bad situation as the update only runs on Windows).
However, the one 'bug' or 'annoyance' I noticed straight away was that my wireless wouldn't autostart after booting into the OS with the new 2.6.34-020634-generic (x86_64) kernel. I'd have to right-click on the NetworkManager icon on the notification tray and left-click '[ ] Enable Wireless' to flag the checkbox and my wireless would come right up and work ok (WPA2 at home, WEP at the office). Not a major problem, but this has been pretty irritating to say the least.
just installed Ubuntu 11.04 x64 on my Samsung R580 and cannot get the wireless to work/detect any networks around me (it looks like its on though at least as far as the indicator lights show on the notebook). I tried search around a bit and wasen't able to find anything...
I've recently installed ubuntu 10.10 32 bit on an external HDD in order to use it as a portable operating system. An issue I have is when running on my laptop (Samsung R580) the wireless connection drops out however the nm-applet still shows it's connected. If I disconnect and reconnect it keeps asking for the access password. The wireless card on the laptop is the RTL8192E (not SE!). I have used the install on a couple of other machines with different wireless cards and no problems. Linux Kernel version is 2.6.35-22-generic. I have searched around and see that the drivers are in early development. If I tried installing the windows driver via ndiswrapper would this affect the portability of the operating system?
I have brought my son a samsung n150 mini laptop. It has a "realtek rtl8192e wireless lan 802.11n pci-e nic" card fitted to it. I have tried downloading the drivers from samsung and realtek, but still can't get it to connect. It see's the local connections but when i try to connect it says it is unable to.
I have a Samsung N150 netbook with Atheros AR 9285 WiFi card. I installed Ubuntu 9.10 on it, although this problem happens on other distros too (Network Remix 9.10, OpenSuse 11.2) My wifi card and networks get detected. The problem is when I try to connect to my network, which is protected by WPA key (I don't know if it matters whether it's WPA or not). After I input my network key, the network manager is trying to connect, but obviously cannot, because just prompts me for password again. I can connect without problems to this network from my other computer running WinXP
Has anybody been successful in getting a N130 with a RTL8192E wireless chip to access the internet? Ive tried practically every suggestion quoted on this message board downloading drivers, from Samsung and Realtek which wont open also linux versions with the same result, trying the Ubuntu compilation of Wine etc, etc. Am about to give up, which is a pity, because the Netbook version Ubuntu is very user friendly.
I recently bought a new Samsung netbook N310 and want to install dual-boot Debian lenny along with windows xp home edition. My CPU is like this: Intel Atom CPU N270 1.6GHz which architectures and kernels I should download from the cd installation? there are so many:alpha, amd64, armel, hppa, i386, ia64, mips, mipsel, powerpc, s390, and sparc.
I recently upgraded from Karmic to Lucid via the Update Manager. I would like to upgrade further by switching from 32 Bit to 64 Bit. I downloaded the Lucid 64 Bit ISO and wrote an install disk. When I reboot the computer with the install disk nothing happens.
I upgraded my system to ubuntu 10.04 last night. After the process completed, I restarted my system and there were 2 problems:
1. No flash plugin was found and adobe could not find one on their site.* 2. my flatscreen monitor (Samsung syncmaster 2333) was detected, but the display is fuzzy. I have tried lowering the resolution but this does not work. Is there a fix for this?
Alternately, is it possible for me to revert back to 9.10? I am a Linux novice and I'd rather stick with what works, even if it means I am a release behind.
I've been trying for days to get this printer to be recognized by 10.04. I've tried seemingly every possible combination of methods from "HOWTO Install Samsung Unified Printer Driver" to no avail (though I have learned a good bit during the process). Presently, the (partial) output of the printer error log file is as follows:
************************************************** ***************** D [10/Sep/2010:13:42:29 -0600] [cups-deviced] Found device "usb://Samsung/SCX-4x21%20Series"... D [10/Sep/2010:13:42:29 -0600] [cups-deviced] PID 1824 (usb) exited with no errors.
I like ubuntu alright, but prefer Debian overall. Before I reinstall Debian I was wondering if during the install if the latest release would automatically recognize the Samsung ML 1665 as the latest ubuntu release did. If not, how does one get the printer installed.
I bought this netbook yesterday & thought of installing ubuntu netbook 10.10 on it.
I booted with windows & started the install using WUBI. The wubi setup was started but then after copying files it told that some error occurred.
I though that I will deal with it later and left the wubi installed.
Now, when I rebooted after sometime, I am thrown to the code...
My netbook also has Hyperspace installed that comes with netbook. I provided that in case it is caused because of that. Now what do I do? I didnt do anything wrong and still ubuntu messed up my system
I recently bought a new Samsung netbook N310 and want to install dual-boot Ubuntu 10 along with windows xp home edition. My CPU is like this: Intel Atom CPU N270 1.6GHz
Which architectures and kernels I should download from the cd installation? any experience with this kind of dual boot installation?
I am attempting to get beyond my grub> as it has hung up there after trying to update my Samsung netbook from 10.04 to 10.10. I have found some answers but a basic question is where do I load grub from a livecd to the mount point where I have already installed my Ubuntu I have attached a screen shot of my partitions on my 160 gb hd and hope it can be opened?
I recently bought a Samsung 900x3a which is a very neat machine. However, I have some trouble trying to get ubuntu to run on it at all. Here are my symptoms / information :
- Live USB runs well - Installation runs well - Trying to install dual operating systems (Windows + Ubuntu) - Installation terminates well - If I reboot in LiveUSB, I can see my new "Ubuntu" partition with all the operating system files on it.
Does any of you have an idea of how I could possibly solve this issue without messing up my Windows environment ?
I have a Samsung ML 2510 USB connected to an F13 based system. The printer is registered as the default printer. A test print gives the printer what I call a wake up call and then never prints. Win XP dual boot prints fine.
I have F15 fresh install on Samsung Q45. The brightness function key is recognized but doesn't really increase or decrease brightness. It is set to maximum. There was a workaround in F14 for same problem.
I'm struggling a bit to install F11 on my laptop. When I put in the cd, i get to the menu. I elect to boot into the live cd, then my pc reboots and the menu comes up again...
does anyone know if the realtek wireless card driver issues have been sorted? It is just so annoying not being able to use Ubuntu on my laptop when all my other PC's are running it.Looks darn good though doesn't it
