Oct 23, 2010

I'm trying to get my Audigy 2 Value to output digital but when I try to use the iec958 interface it outputs to the front speakers analog outputs, ie not the digital io socket.

I can get 5.1 surround by using the plug:surround51 device.

Have gone though other guides trying to fix the problem but no luck. how to get the digital stuff working. I have included some outputs.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Get Sound To Loop From Digital Input On Soundcard To Analog Speakers?

Nov 23, 2010

Alright, just installed maverick, got the sound to work great on the 7.1 with pulseaudio. works great in movies, and everything else just wonderfully. the only thing i am stumped by is how to get the sound to loop from my digital input on my soundcard to my analog speakers also on the same soundcard. i know the sound feed works on the input as the makeshift VU meter/bar on my digital input in the sound preferences moves, but i can't get the sound to actually come through on my speakers.

Ubuntu :: Gtk-recordMyDesktop - Record Digital Sounds - Hearing Through The Speakers And Not My Microphone

Anyway, being a Windows user before this, I enjoyed recording videos of my computer and the programs on it, but when I switched to Ubuntu 10.04, I kinda hit some tracks.

I installed gtk-recordMyDesktop and permanently killed PulseAudio and installed GNOME ALSA Mixer.

What my problem is is that I want gtk to record digital sounds, you know, what I'm hearing through the speakers, and not my microphone.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: A Recent Update Has Caused IEC958 Output To Stop Working?

Feb 1, 2011

I've recently noticed that my IEC958 digital audio output has stopped working. The short version of why I didn't notice this immediately is that I have two simultaneous audio outputs from my system to my speakers and I hadn't realized the IEC958 output wasn't in use. After messing around with a few settings to no avail, I remembered that I'd recently run update manager (this had to be within the last two weeks) and thought this might be the cause.I have just booted to a 10.10 install disc and verified the IEC958 output works fine there.

Unfortunately I'm not sure which of the recent updates could have caused this problem. Before I submit a bug report on launchpad I was hoping anyone here might have a suggestion as to where to look to figure this out.I'd recently seen this thread and this thread which lead me to believe it may have been a recent kernel update. What's my best course of action to determine the problematic update?[edit]In case anyone needs the info, I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 64 bit on a system with an Intel DH57JG motherboard. Using the HDMI output to a TV, with a separate optical audio cable to my speakers. Also, I've attempted using all of the available digital audio output options in the sound preferences panel and I've also installed gnome-alsamixer and tried enabling/disabling every digital output listed there as well. None of these got the optical output working again.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Multiple Audio Outputs Not Available

Oct 28, 2010

I've searched high and low, and can't seem to find a solution to this. I'm running a Dell Inspiron with an HDMI output with 10.10 through the tv. I want to get HDMI sound output for VLC, but I also want S/PDIF output (to the stereo) for Musicplayer. I can test and use the HDMI in the sound preferences sound/preferences/sound, but when I try to do the same for the internal card and click 'test speakers' the sound program closes itself. When the machine was a windows machine, it had PowerDVD outputting to the TV and Mediaplayer outputting to the stereo. I'm aiming for a similar set up in Ubuntu.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Maudio 1010lt No Analog Settings?

Sep 11, 2010

ive been making the switch over to ubuntu from Vista and one of the last things in my way is getting my M-audio 1010lt card working in ubuntu (9.10, 64bit). I set it up so that the maudio card is the primary card and in envy24control the digital mixer shows sound, and i turn up all of the sliders (and unmute) but nothing happens noise wise.

I went into the "sound preferences" gui and was able to disable the internal sound card. It lists: ICE1712 [envy24] PCI Multi-Channel I/O Controller 1 output/ 1 input the top part is fine, but the 1 in/out is wrong. I should have access to 10in/out. Additionally, in the "settings for the selected device" drop down menu, there is no choice to select analog stereo to analog outs 1/2. How can i get the analog output in this drop down menu or find some other way to get sound working??

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Mythtv Analog Hauppauge 1250?

May 4, 2011

I've looked everywhere for this and I can't find an answer. I've got a hauppauge wintv-1250 card; ubuntu and mythtv recognize it OOTB. The dvb digital tuner portion of this card works great. I had quite a time figuring out how to set it up, but it all works pretty good now. nyway, the only problem is that I need to record 2 sources: 1 is RF, the other is from an analog cable box. So, I figured I should be able to record analog video from the s-video input. Is this possible with mythtv, and if so, how? I could watch it in windows with the software that came with the card, so I know it's possible, but I'd rather avoid windows if I can.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Switch Pulseaudio Inputs And Outputs With One Click?

Sep 10, 2010

With pulseaudio handling sound on Lucid (10.04), when I plug in my USB headset it's recognized, but there was no easy way to have it be used without going to System > Preferences > Sound > Input & Output and checking the radio buttons. Then if it's unplugged, and plugged in again later, the setting has been lost, so it was back through the menus. Not good when the headset's not plugged in and I'm fumbling to answer a Skype call. What would be ideal is if pulseaudio could prioritize and always default to the headset when it's plugged in. But I'm told by one of the pulseaudio gods (Col) that it can't yet. Here's a way to at least get the switch down to one button on the panel bar.0. Get all your devices plugged in1. Find your outputs (speakers, headphones):Quote:pacmd list-sinks | grep alsa_output2. Find your inputs (such as a microphone):Quote:pacmd list-sources | grep alsa_input3. Write a bash file to choose one or both, like this but with device names appropriate to your system which you've discovered above for the alsa_output.* and alsa_input.* strings.Quote:

#! /bin/bash
pacmd set-default-sink alsa_output.usb-Generic_FREETALK_Everyman_0000000001-00-Everyman.analog-stereo
pacmd set-default-source alsa_input.usb-Generic_FREETALK_Everyman_0000000001-00-Everyman.analog-stereo

Debian Multimedia :: Dual Monitor Setup - Two Identical Outputs

Sep 2, 2015

Just installed Debian 8, coming from Ubuntu12, it seems I cannot get my dual monitors to work as it should.

I want two monitors side by side, currently I have two identical outputs. I looked around a bit and register two possible problems.

root@bigcem101-debian:/home/bigcem101# xrandr
xrandr: Failed to get size of gamma for output default
Screen 0: minimum 640 x 400, current 1024 x 768, maximum 1024 x 768
default connected primary 1024x768+0+0 0mm x 0mm

1024x768 0.00*
800x600 0.00
640x480 0.00
720x400 0.00

Hence, problem 1: it is as if there is only one monitor detected. Then I tried to look for Xorg.conf ..... and: problem 2 xorg.conf is not there. This seems to be normal but when I installed my Ubuntu years ago it was still there and one could manually set things. There must be something new I am missing.

Card:
VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] RV670 [Radeon HD 3690/3850]

It seems I have both ati and radeon installed.

root@bigcem101-debian:/home/bigcem101# X -configure
(EE)
Fatal server error:
(EE) Server is already active for display 0

I am clueless.

Debian Multimedia :: Get Analog Input Through PCHDTV Card HD-5500?

Oct 10, 2010

This week I got a TV card partially working in Squeeze. It is a PCHDTV HD-5500, sold for use with Linux [URL]. It has a Conexant chipset and open drivers. The drivers are already in the current (Sept/Oct. 2010) Squeeze kernel, 2.6.3x.

TV reception is working with Xine and VLC (probably would be fine with mplayer too). My question is, how do I get video from the inputs on the back of the card?

There's a multi-thing that takes inputs from composite or S-video. I have one of those digital-to-analog boxes from the US TV conversion, and its composite output is plugged into the composite input of the card. Looking at the players, however, it is not obvious which device (or other input) to choose, or what settings should be. How can I make a player get the video from the plugged-in analog source?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Digital Media Connection ( Well, Lack Of )?

Jan 18, 2010

I've trolled the forums for about 30 mins or so already looking this up, but can't seem to find any solutions. Most threads seem to end with either a "report to launchpad" or they just end without resolution. So in case I've missed a solved thread:

Plugging my Kodak C503 in gives inability to mount due to lock issues, the infamous -60 lockout. However, I get TWO icons in metacity, neither are mounted/will mount. Turning the cam off removes both, and I can't get down to only one. Not sure if this is because it's reading the camera's internal memory + my SD card.

So, I pulled the SD card out, and jacked it into my card reader in my lappy. no dice. In fact, none of my SD cards work; leading me to believe I need to find drivers for it.

Notes: (1)It's a Pavillion ZD7000 (2)nothing pops up in fdisk (3)I really don't want to load up windows

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Make Digital Camo On Gimp?

Mar 23, 2010

I've been searching for a while now and come up empty handed, but after some research on the history of digital camouflage and how it was created I was able to devise a simple method for creating at least a close approximation of the real thing.

Step 1: start with a picture of the "texture" you intend to use. it doesn't matter if it's a low resolution picture because you are going to intentionally pixelate it

Step 2: use the noise plugin "pick" and create some static in the picture. I've found that you can just set everything to maximum and apply the pick with good results.

Step 3: (optional) if you want this to be a repeating pattern, at this time apply the "make seamless" tool under Map plugins.

Step 4: Apply a pixel blur. dial it in just to where you start to see hard pixel edges forming. In most digital camo patterns, the pixels are taller than they are wide, about a 3:2 ratio

Step 5: Choose the number of colors you want in your camo pattern. Virtually all digital patterns are either three or four colors, but never any more than that. Change the image mode from RGB to 4 color indexed. Then you can change it back to RGB if you wish to change the colors in your camo.

you can play with the settings on each step to dial in something that looks proper. The proper scale for your camo is roughly 1/4" tall pixels. Try playing with different textures, or even non digital camo prints. In about two minutes we've just created both a woodland and a desert digital print that is close enough to pass for MARPAT using free software.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Pulseaudio Digital Out Has Just Stopped Working

Oct 10, 2010

For no conceivable reason, pulseaudio will no longer output via the spdif connection on my onboard sound card.Up until now, various applications could output digitally (mostly using via the alsa plugin) fine. DVD playback would passthrough DD/dts bitstreams if the application was set to communicate with alsa directly. The sound profile in Ubuntu's audio applet would have to be set to Analog Stereo Output for this to work, no idea why.

Now, all the works is digital passthrough via alsa (i.e DVDs). So definitely not a hardware issue. Regular audio either via the alsa plugin or using pulse directly does not work so no music/system sounds/flash etc. All sliders are unmuted (see pics linked below) and the volume meters all show movement with sound activity. Changing the Profile setting does nothing, I thought maybe it had been fixed so digital actually meant digital. This has happened before (sometimes triggered by DVD playback and DD passthrough) but usually fiddling with the mute toggles fixed it.Possibly this has been caused by a recent update.
