View 3 RepliesI'm trying to get my Audigy 2 Value to output digital but when I try to use the iec958 interface it outputs to the front speakers analog outputs, ie not the digital io socket.
I can get 5.1 surround by using the plug:surround51 device.
Have gone though other guides trying to fix the problem but no luck. how to get the digital stuff working. I have included some outputs.

Anyway, being a Windows user before this, I enjoyed recording videos of my computer and the programs on it, but when I switched to Ubuntu 10.04, I kinda hit some tracks.
I installed gtk-recordMyDesktop and permanently killed PulseAudio and installed GNOME ALSA Mixer.
What my problem is is that I want gtk to record digital sounds, you know, what I'm hearing through the speakers, and not my microphone.
Alright, just installed maverick, got the sound to work great on the 7.1 with pulseaudio. works great in movies, and everything else just wonderfully. the only thing i am stumped by is how to get the sound to loop from my digital input on my soundcard to my analog speakers also on the same soundcard. i know the sound feed works on the input as the makeshift VU meter/bar on my digital input in the sound preferences moves, but i can't get the sound to actually come through on my speakers.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have Ubuntu 11.04 installed on my Toshiba Satellite C655 laptop. When I plug my headphones, they sometimes work, they sometimes don't, but that's not the main problem. When they do work, sound also plays out of the speakers. The only solutions I was able to find were for earlier versions, which don't work for 11.04.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently installed Kubuntu 9.04 Jaunty on my buddy's laptop. It's working alright, except when we try to plug the external computer speakers into the sound jack in the front, there is no change; it keeps playing through the onboard speakers. My friend and I are getting pretty frustrated because we use those speakers to watch movies with, and the onboard speakers aren't sufficient. If I need to provide any other info, let me know and I'll do so.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWell, the title pretty much sums it up. Whenever i plug in my external speakers, my laptop speakers continue to put out sound, which is good until i turn up the volume and hear rattling.
I am running ubuntu 9.04 64-bit 2.6.28-13 on an MSi GX620.
My Toshiba Satellite Pro A200 running Fedora 8 continues to play sound out of the laptop speakers when external speakers are plugged in (and no sound out of the external). What can I do to diagnose/fix this? code...
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a normal install of Ubuntu 10.04 with KDE, gnome, and xfce. Every time i try to do something sound related on my computer, my speakers won't work. I tried headphones, still wouldn't work. The Ubuntu 10.04 documentation didn't help much, and I'm plugging in the speakers correctly.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI used GnomeBaker to burn photos from my digital camera onto a CD. I have a ThinkPad R51e with Ubuntu 8.04 installed as the only operating system. I do think that I will be able to use GnomeBaker to put photos on the CDs but I was wondering if there wasn't something that would be better.

I've setup an HTPC with xbmc, and I'd like to output the audio from the system to both my digital and analog outputs on my mother board. How do I do it? Can their be a script that duplicates the output of one to the other? Here's what aplay -l said:

I'm a school teacher with a teeny bit of linux experience (setup K12LTSP at a school 6 years ago).
I need a LINUX DISTRO of some sort for an EXHIBITION of Primary School DIGITAL ART.
- I have 12 old optima workpro PCs
- need something light
- UBUNTU gives me the black screen after it boots up
- puppy works but there are other issues like...
- need to have apps start automatically on boot as gallery won't be open everyday but people can view screens thru large window. I have already figured out how to wake PCs via BIOS setting.
- needs gxine or vlc to play video loops
- image viewer with slideshow option
- tux paint for kids to play with on days that gallery is open
- firefox a bonus but not essential
- PCs won't have Internet connection or networking capabilities at gallery so are stand alone
- oh and lastly, the exhibition opens in less than two weeks so I am a bit frantic.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have overlooked some very important tools that would give me the information I'm looking for. What I'm trying to do is -
Plug in a USB camera
find /dev/camera-pseudonym
mount /dev/camera-pseudonym /camera
cp * ~/pictures
umount /dev/camera-pseudonym
and then work on adding this camera to /etc/fstab so that it will automatically mount to the usual place. I don't know how to find the pseudonym. I can, lsusb and see Bus 004 Device 009: ID 040a:05c1 Kodak Co. Digital Camera I can fdisk -l and not see any new partitions (which, with most USB devices with storage, I can usually see the partition listed in fdisk -l) After these two commands related to search FOR the pseudonym, I draw a blank and resort to manually searching /dev for things that may be useful.
This is difficult, though, because there are dozens of files named usb-something, and they're all very similar to one another, and not related to typical pseudonyms I'm used to (like /dev/usb[0-9], /dev/sd[a-z], etc) I would like to be able to find the /dev entry based on the ID 040a:05c1 because every USB devices I've tried has been listed by lsusb, and is accompanied by an ID number. How do I find the pseudonym in /dev for any usb device?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI am wondering if any of you technical guys would be willing to format my Western Digital external USB 1.5 TB Hard Drive to Linux EXT3. I am naturally happy to pay for your time and trouble and for postage. The WD drive is for storing video footage and will be connected to my Humax Freesat HD Digital TV Box(not a computer), and the Humax Box will only record high deffination programmes in EXT3 format. I've tried to do the job myself with my PC, but have failed to change my system to format in Linux.

When I connect them all I get are blinking green lights on the monitors which I think means no signal. Do I need to download a Linux driver? I've searched online but can't find anything. Maybe the problem is something else. Same happens when trying to connect to my PC.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI currently have pclinuxos 2007 (updated to kde4). I put on webinars, and like to record them using recordmydesktop. All is working fine by putting a splitter in my speaker out, and feeding it back into my line in. This only works when I have analog loopback not muted. My problem is that pclinuxos is now putting out there 2010 version, and there is no way I can see to un-mute the analog loopback. It does not show up as any options onkmix.... I am going to attach a couple pictures one with my old kmix, and one with the new 2010 version. My question is, how can I get back that analog loopback, or is there another way to get the sound to record from both my speaker and my mic?
View 14 Replies View RelatedI am having issues on playing music in Linux (Ubuntu 10.10). I installed windows and linux on my macintosh computer. windows and linux are not on virtual machines and they are directly installed on my hard drive and have their own disk partitions. When i am on linux, the speakers on my mac does not work with linux. I suspect that the sound driver may not be compatible, but i am not sure. When I stuck in the bootcamp cd into windows the disk took out windows driver called "realtek audio" and replace it with sigmatel audio and/or cirrus audio. Also i was wondering if their was some cd like bootcamp for linux to make sure all the proper drivers are installed so then it works on my macintosh?

View 2 Replies View RelatedThe only thing really missing from this install is this issue with the sound. I've searched all over the forums and i found one thing where you get the model and codecs and write them to a file, however, I can't seem to find what my "model" is because none of the postings have anything about Lenovo laptops. Here is the command they all asked for:

With that info, how do I get the model, and how do I get my speakers to stop playing when headphones are plugged in. Also, I don't have any software installed like pulse audio either, so it's not that.
