i have an Asus P5Q with ALC1200 integrated sound card. I've upgraded today my system from Ubuntu Hardy 8.04 to Ubuntu Lucid 10.04. In Hardy all was working ok, but in Lucid i have no sound, SPDIF (IEC95 seem not working.
View 9 RepliesI've recently noticed that my IEC958 digital audio output has stopped working. The short version of why I didn't notice this immediately is that I have two simultaneous audio outputs from my system to my speakers and I hadn't realized the IEC958 output wasn't in use.After messing around with a few settings to no avail, I remembered that I'd recently run update manager (this had to be within the last two weeks) and thought this might be the cause.I have just booted to a 10.10 install disc and verified the IEC958 output works fine there.
Unfortunately I'm not sure which of the recent updates could have caused this problem. Before I submit a bug report on launchpad I was hoping anyone here might have a suggestion as to where to look to figure this out.I'd recently seen this thread and this thread which lead me to believe it may have been a recent kernel update.What's my best course of action to determine the problematic update?[edit]In case anyone needs the info, I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 64 bit on a system with an Intel DH57JG motherboard. Using the HDMI output to a TV, with a separate optical audio cable to my speakers.Also, I've attempted using all of the available digital audio output options in the sound preferences panel and I've also installed gnome-alsamixer and tried enabling/disabling every digital output listed there as well. None of these got the optical output working again.
After a few days of battling with ubuntu 9.04, I still cant get no sound, eventually on one of the forums someone told me to upgrade to
10.04 beta, so i did but still nothing. Things i did:
1; Installed pulseaudio using this tutorial.
2;Also tried to change hda_intel.conf using this command :
options snd-hda-intel model=auto probe_mask=1 - No luck.
3; Also tried to update realtek driver from here , still nothing.
4; Checked the alsamixer and other volume control, everything is up to max.

I've recently built a new PC with an ASUS M4A79T Deluxe motherboard with Realteck ALC1200 integrated audio. I'm connecting my Logitech z-5300 to it.
I'm not getting any audio despite connecting everything properly.
I'm not sure if it is because there is no stock drivers for it, or if there is some other issue. I'm not sure what the source of my problem is, or how to fix it. I'm a noob when it comes to audio, so any help is greatly appreciated!

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to get my Audigy 2 Value to output digital but when I try to use the iec958 interface it outputs to the front speakers analog outputs, ie not the digital io socket.
I can get 5.1 surround by using the plug:surround51 device.
Have gone though other guides trying to fix the problem but no luck. how to get the digital stuff working. I have included some outputs.

The sound stopped working on my Macbook Pro 1,1. It was working fine before, and I can't think of any changes I made that would make it stop working. I know it's not a hardware problem because the Apple sound plays when I turn on the computer. Everything is unmuted in ALSA Mixer. None of the hardware options in Sound Preferences produce sound. Plugging in headphones or speakers does not solve the problem. I'm using 10.10.One curiosity: Whenever I do something that would normally cause sound to play, the optical audio red light in the headphone jack turns on, but no sound plays.

Alsamixer shows no capture controls for the device and I get no sound through the browser. I have set the device as default. However, I get sound fine when testing in KDE's System Settings (Phonon). Sound works just fine through Amarok and Dragon Player.
How do I get Firefox to play sound through this device?
Just beating my head against a wall lately trying to enable 5.1 surround through the digital out (spdif) of my Audigy SE card. It outputs fine to stereo right now, but watching a DVD with 5.1 selected in any media player (VLC, Totem, Mplayer etc.) still yields stereo output.

I have the speakers plugged into the headphone jack of the audio card. The problem is that I am stuck in either 6ch or 8ch mode, even with the headphone box checked and all relevant settings where they are suppose to be in alsamixer. I am missing sounds plus the volume is lower then it should be over all. Music, for example, does play but it is not the whole song. For example if I listen to one song, it stops all instruments and is suppose to play and guitar solo. But I don't hear it at all.
What I want to do is get it to work in 2ch. I am using Alsa but I have no idea what to edit, or if there is anything I can edit to get to 2ch. I do not want to use pulseaudio at all. One of the main reasons why I won't use Gnome (Ubuntu) right now. I have more headaches with that then I am with this problem.
I finally decided to transition to a 64-bit install (AMD64). (same machine, just reinstalling as a 64-bit kernel starting w/ a Debian squeeze netinstall image) My audio chipset is nvidia MCP61, and it was working perfectly under a 32-bit kernel (I did the transition because a poorly-written system backup script (my fault) hosed /usr, /bin, and /sbin) When everything was up and running:
*: KDE4 only recognized the output device as ALC1200 Analog
*: kmix only had a single channel(master)
*: alsamixergui did recognize all the channels
*: some games (sauerbraten, for example) had no sound in KDE4.
*: some games (warzone2100, for example) did have sound in KDE4.
*: the games that had no sound in KDE4 did have sound in fluxbox.

Well, turns out it should not have been recommended. I had restarted and all I got was a low res ubuntu logo and a boot right into a full screen terminal. Tried startx and got a no screens found, I look online for about an hour last night and decided to just reinstall, which takes a couple hours when installing all the packages.
I have done more research today and found to install the latest linux x64 driver from nVidias website, which I did, but it does not run. I followed some more instructions and it said to do a �sudo chmod +x <file>� which I did, and it starts to open and I get �You appear to be running an X server; please exit X before installing.�
I�m starting to get a little frustrated here, guess I�m just used to a lot of the ease of windows and assumed that something like installing a graphics card driver would be easy.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI finally installed Squeeze on my laptop and found out that the XF86Audio multimedia keys do not work.
When I press them, they're correctly identified by xev but they do not produce the desired effect (raise/lower/mute volume, play/pause/stop/prev/next song in media players like Sonata).
Funnily enough though, they do work in Audacious, which has its own plugin to manage XF86Audio media keys.
So it's like the action of pressing these keys is not intercepted by the system and no event is triggered.
I think this might be due to a missing package or configuration but I have no idea where to look...

I was replacing my media setup(10.04) with an upgrade and encountered the following problem: I can't get the tv out working. I tried both with the NVidia drivers and without a xorg.conf file (vesa, according to xorg.log) The motherboard is an Asus P4P800-VM (with integrated graphics), the GPU is an old NVidia GeForce 4 MX 440. I took the card from the old setup because of the tv-out, so I know the card itself is fine, using a crt monitor on the VGA port also works without problems. I noticed that the old setup also used the tv as its screen, for displaying the BIOS POST and bootscreen, while the new machine just stays blank(no signal). There is an option in the bios to set a tv as the primary boot screen, but to no effect. Using the xorg.conf generated by the myhtbuntu installer, the console (tty1-6) has this weird pink color, this does not occur when generating the config with the nvidia tools, or when completely deleting the xorg.conf file.

None of the tv viewing programs work, ether they crash or don't produce a stream.
I am sure the drivers are installed. The card is autodetected as a WinTV-HVR-1270. From what I have read on other post the 1250 r4 detects as a 1270
