Ubuntu Multimedia :: Digital Camera Not Recognized On USB

Jun 17, 2010

Previously I could plug my EOS 20D into the USB and f-spot would pop up and let me import photos. This was on 9.10. The camera is fine, it still does exactly what it did on the machine next to me which is still running 9 (or 8, I forget).

Ubuntu Multimedia :: 10.04 Hangs While Trying To Transfer Photos And Videos From Digital Camera

Sep 10, 2010

Ubuntu Hangs While Trying to Transfer Photos and Videos From Digital Camera I have a Canon Powershot S3 IS and I've been trying to transfer photos and videos (13 gigs worth) from it to a local folder (I'm currently using Ubuntu 10.04) via USB cable. I've had very little success - I've only transferred one video file, everything else failed, including a single photo transfer attempt!

First it would take really long for the actual transfer to start after I've dragged and dropped files from the camera to a local folder (or even doing ctrl+c and ctrl+v). The progress bar would appear, but then it would take forever before the file transfer would start. In the case of the single video transfer, it started and finished after a while. But when I selected all of the videos on the camera and tried to transfer it all, it would just take a really long time, slow down gnome to the point of hanging, and then eventually just show me an error message indicating nothing could be transferred.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: See HD Videos In MTS File Format From Digital Camera - Mplayer (gmplayer) Black Windows

Sep 13, 2010

I have to use mplayer, using the gmplayer executable, in order to see some HD videos in MTS file format from my digital camera, and though they play reasonably in mplayer it is impossible to control the video as the control window is blank and black, as is the video window until the video starts to play. See screenshot. I have an ATI 9200SE video card, sempron 2400+ cpu, 2GB ram, if that makes any difference. I have never had this problem in previous Ubuntu versions, only now in Lucid, fully updated. I have the packages mplayer, mplayer-gui and mplayer-skins installed. Can anyone tell me what I'm missing.

EDIT: OK, problem over. To get the best from my ATI card I was using 16 bit colour. Discussions last night on another forum questioned many things which made me look again at that, and a change of colour depth has solved that difficulty. I now need to make sure that the24 bit colour does not introduce other problems which are more difficult to live with, but my xorg.conf is customised and edited from the one I needed to get any display from karmic, so it is possible that I may be able to live with 24 bit colour now in Lucid.

Ubuntu :: Get Digital Camera Application?

Feb 22, 2010

I have a Samsung Digimax S600 camera that I'd like to use to download pictures to my ubuntu v 8.04 LTS with all the latest updates.

However, there doesn't seem to be an application that will work with my camera. I've tried Camera, gtcam and Digital Camera that gets loaded while installing the version. gtcam and Digital Camera have an option for a Samsun Digimax 800 but none for my camera.

Does anyone know of an application that has my camera as an option.

Ubuntu :: Digital Camera Not Being Detected In U10.04 / What To Do?

Jun 5, 2010

I'm having some problems with Ubuntu 10.04 64bit finding my digital camera (Nikon CoolPix S4000). For whatever reason, when I plug in the camera via USB connection, Ubuntu will not detect it. The odd thing is that on my old Ubuntu 9.04 32bit install my camera was detected fine (it appeared as an icon on the desktop, akin to a flashdrive or any other mounted drive).

Debian :: OS Does Not See Digital Camera Via USB

Mar 20, 2010

We've got one of those fancy, modern digital cameras and it's great for taking pictures, but I'd love to back those pictures up, too. When I connect the camera via its USB cable to my computer, the OS just doesn't "see" the camera/connection. Nothing shows up in fdisk -l. However, when I connect my mobile phone or USB HD via the same port, they show up in fdisk and can be mounted without any problem. The scary thing is that on my partner's laptop, running gNewSense (with Gnome), it (auto)mounts without any problems. The camera is a NIkon Coolpix L20 with an SD card.

Ubuntu :: Mounting Digital Camera Without GVFS

Apr 25, 2010

When I plug in my digital camera, it mounts it as a gvfs-mount. I have a few problems with this:

- It takes 2 times: I have to plug it in, wait, unplug it, plug it back in before it shows on the desktop
- Don't have command line access: Nothing in ~/gvfs after mount and I cant do anything with gphoto2://[usb....]
- Cant access it from another desktop instance: gvfs-mount -l lists it when I'm on a terminal on the desktop, but not when I'm ssh'ed into the system.

Really I just want to mount, rsync photos for backup, unmount and be done with it (all this in 3 lines of a shell script that I'll add to udev so its fired when ever the camera is plugged in)

dmesg: usb 1-5: new high speed USB device using ehci_hd and address 8. Configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
lsusb: Bus 001 Device 008: ID 04a9:3176 Canon, Inc. PowerShot A590

How can I mount it as a normal mount (perhaps something that automatically shows up in /media or something).

Ubuntu :: Digital Camera Not Showing Up On Dolphin

May 19, 2010

I'm using Kubuntu, but installed Nautilus so I could use Dropbox. Yesterday I plugged my camera and it popped up a window asking what to do, but it didn't list any application, and the only option available was Cancel. Then I couldn't find it anywhere on the system, neither where it was mounted. Today I've turned on an USB hard disk and Nautilus popped up (why? shouldn't be dolphin...?), then afterwards plugged in the camera, and there it was on Nautilus.

But in it's interface I also couldn't find the mount point... I've seen I can add an entry on Dolphin's "Places", but I need the mount point. Is there a way to make Dolphin add the entry automatically? Device Actions under System Settings is a bit confusing... And Digital Camera (also under System Settings) gives "Unable to initialize camera, check your port settings and camera connectivity and try again. Could not lock the device", and indeed, I can't unmount it on Nautilus....

Ubuntu :: Remote Capture Canon Digital Camera

Aug 14, 2010

From time to time I do a bit of astrophotography and time lapse using a canon 350d. To do it properly I have to use a remote capture program on the laptop. This was never a problem on windows or the mac. Does anyone know of a way to control my camera on ubuntu 10.04 netbook edition?

I have installed gphoto2 and this allows a command line method but I dont like command lines for this kind of stuff, plus id like to see the image straight away. I have tried a couple of GUIs for gphoto but the only one which seems to have a capture option is digikam.... but the button is shaded out so I cant use it.

Ubuntu :: USB Digital Camera Static Mount Position

Dec 14, 2010

I have digital camera (Canon EOS 550d) which I connect to my computer using a USB cable. I can see that the camera file system is mounted under "~/.gvfs/gphoto2-XYZ" where XYZ seems to be a dynamic device dependent string that changes every time I connect the camera. The thing is: I need the mount position ALWAYS to stay the same, so my photo management program (Bibble) knows where to download the images from.I am not sure how to do this, but I guess there must be a way to configure GVFS/FUSE or whatever is responsible for mounting the camera to use a fixed mount point (like /media/camera or something).

Slackware :: Convert Movies From A Digital Camera?

Sep 20, 2009

My Canon PowerShot A590IS digital camera records movies with a format of:

Stream #0.0: Video: mjpeg, yuvj422p, 640x480, 20 tbr, 20 tbn, 20 tbc
Stream #0.1: Audio: pcm_u8, 11024 Hz, mono, s16, 88 kb/s

For whatever reason, XBMC refuses to play the audio. Xine plays the audio but with a distressing static noise. MPlayer and Kaffeine play the files fine. The bottom line is XBMC and Xine seem to dislike pcm_u8 audio, or the way the audio is streamed with the video.I also cannot fast-forward the movies with some players, such as MPlayer or SMPlayer.

I haven't found whether I can select a different format with the camera, but to avoid player problems I'd like to convert the videos. My primary focus is playing in XBMC and Xine because I have both apps configured to be controlled with a remote control. What is the most compatible format to convert? This is with 12.2 or 13.0. I have ffmpeg, mplayer, and mencoder installed and probably all or most codecs I could use.

General :: Copy Pictures From Kodak Digital Camera?

May 2, 2010

I have overlooked some very important tools that would give me the information I'm looking for. What I'm trying to do is -

Plug in a USB camera
find /dev/camera-pseudonym
mount /dev/camera-pseudonym /camera
cp * ~/pictures
umount /dev/camera-pseudonym

and then work on adding this camera to /etc/fstab so that it will automatically mount to the usual place. I don't know how to find the pseudonym. I can, lsusb and see Bus 004 Device 009: ID 040a:05c1 Kodak Co. Digital Camera I can fdisk -l and not see any new partitions (which, with most USB devices with storage, I can usually see the partition listed in fdisk -l) After these two commands related to search FOR the pseudonym, I draw a blank and resort to manually searching /dev for things that may be useful.

This is difficult, though, because there are dozens of files named usb-something, and they're all very similar to one another, and not related to typical pseudonyms I'm used to (like /dev/usb[0-9], /dev/sd[a-z], etc) I would like to be able to find the /dev entry based on the ID 040a:05c1 because every USB devices I've tried has been listed by lsusb, and is accompanied by an ID number. How do I find the pseudonym in /dev for any usb device?

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Canon Digital Camera Not Showing Anymore

Jan 1, 2011

I have a Canon S95 digital camera that used to work just fine. I plugged it in, the device notifier showed a couple of actions for it, I chose digiKam and downloaded the photos. Now I tried to get new photos out of the device, but it's not showing in the device notifier any more. DigiKam shows "Canon Inc. Canon Digital Camera (auto-detected)" but doesn't do anything when selecting it.

In dmesg I see:
[ 988.197025] usb 1-3: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 4
[ 988.313730] usb 1-3: New USB device found, idVendor=04a9, idProduct=3212
[ 988.313734] usb 1-3: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3
[ 988.313738] usb 1-3: Product: Canon Digital Camera
[ 988.313741] usb 1-3: Manufacturer: Canon Inc.
[ 988.313743] usb 1-3: SerialNumber: [number]

So it works but KDE doesn't seem to be able to notice it. I'm using openSuse 11.3 with KDE 4.6 RC1, and it might be that 4.6 betas/rc broke the functionality though I'm not sure.
