I have recently switched from Banshee to Songbird, and am loving it. Especially now that there is a ppa for it, which I just discovered. However, i have tried to download an addon and a theme, and apparently it just told me to restart after installing, but it doesn't show up when I go to View>Feathers. It just shows the default theme, Gonzo. Has anyone had this problem, or knows how to fix it?

I went to package manager and installed it but still doesn't work. Themes to be installed, either overglossed or sickness-black. environment ubuntu 10.04.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am aware of the multitude of firefox addons there are, but they are not really what I am looking for. I am also aware that I can just recover the temp files from my hard drive, that is not what I am looking for either. I was wondering if you guys knew of any actual software for linux that does the job, something like orbit downloader. The reason being is that orbit allowed multiple http connections at once, making for much faster downloads, much more efficient on system resources that browser addons. It was also in a neat little menu.

Similarly, the transparant parts in the right-mouse menu dividers are white too, as is the active part of my gnome-do panel.What can I do to fix this? 've searched but have found nothing. The thing is, I can't find anything 'I like' other than Songbird. It's such a shame its no longer supported.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI know, Songbird does not currently support Linux... I got the x64 .deb file off this website (http://skyzim.com/songbird-1-4-3-installer/) and installed it without issue. I got it up and running then screwed something up with the graphics and needed to reinstall. Now when I get the same file off the website, install it, then try to run I get an error "GLib-ERROR **: /build/buildd/glib2.0-2.24.1/glib/gmem.c:157: failed to allocate 14145530384 bytes". I tried doing a sudo apt-get remove libvisual-0.4-plugins as was recommended elsewhere to no avail. Anyone know how to get songbird up and running again? I did a "Removal" through synaptic to uninstall the first time, perhaps that is an issue?

So I finally figured out that if you download the latest developer version, it is fast, stable, and hasnt crashed yet! The only downside is not all plugins are compatible, but it is still awesome to use, its my favorite audio player in Ubuntu. [URL]

I recently installed the newest version of Songbird, it worked for two days. Now when I click Songbird, it tells me it's starting down in the Window List, but it never pops up. I've tried all three methods from here to install it afterwards... none of them I got to work. Anyone have a clue what could possibly going on? This is on Ubuntu 9.10(32bit)

View 3 Replies View RelatedI really am a great fan of Songbird, but there's one thing that keeps annoying me: searching my music collection. I have about 12k songs (67GB) in my library, and using the search bar is pretty much a disaster: whatever I type it takes ages to come up with something, and if I delete any of the written to enter something new it hangs for like five minutes. This sort of forced me to look for specific songs myself or just keep it going on shuffle, none of which is a good solution.
I believe the problem is that songbird searches after every single typed character instead of waiting until I'm finished, which is a cool feature with smaller amounts of data to look through, but in my case it's just annoying and pointless. How to disable this feature? I am using Songbird 1.2.0, Build 1146.

My Rythmbox and SongBird when I click a mp3 the fan goes into over drive and the mp3 song play timer goes up in three's and doesn't play any audio. But I can play the mp3 files in Audacious.
I have gstreamer installed and I can do gstreamer-properties and its setup right for alsa. Whats going on with Songbird and Rythmbox?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI would like to install a new icon theme without effecting my currently selected panel theme, as i think the Ambience panel theme looks really nice and unified but im not too keen on the Ubuntu-Mono icons.Is this easily possible, without going into my icon folders and replacing all the instances of one style for another?Are there any applications for gnome icon theming like OS X's Candybar?Im sure others must desire to change only the icons and perhaps it is really easy and this is why i couldnt dig anythin up on google, that or im a useless googler.

Normaly It is supposed to show themes in /usr/share/themes right? but now it shows themes only in ~/.themes folder. I don't know what affected the change. how do I configure it as to show themes in /usr/share/themes/,?
Also whatever theme I use , Controls would stay same(Classic controls). They wouldn't be update to those of the Theme used.
I have a LAMP installation for learning php and mysql. My online trainer pointed out that we always get a white screen when the php is wrong, when we should get error messages that say which line in the code is wrong etc.
I recently reinstalled mysql so it is the latest version from the repositories for Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS.
Is there a way to make error messages show up?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm in Debian testing and I had Gtk+-3 from the apt-get. Now because I wanted to install Xnoise in Debian from source, I needed gtk+-2. So I installed gtk+-2 from the source. And after that Xnoise was installed and worked great. I've noticed that Xnoise theme was standard(gray). Note: I installed both of them to /usr/local(default/no prefix). But when I rebooted my computer, all Gnome themes was also gray. BTW: After reset I can't hear any sound in Xnoise, but this isn't the subject here. Therefor, I went to System->Preferences->Appearance and It tells me the following error in a yellow box(translated): "The theme won't seen as excepted because GTK+ Adwaita suit isn't installed."
I had the "clean theme" which is the default Gnome theme in Debian. Now all the themes have gone.... I can see only "Custom" which is ugly gray. How can I restore it?
how to use my downloaded themes, I used a default Xfce theme. The only issue I saw with that was that the Synamptic window did not take the selected theme, it was default. When I selected my downloaded them in the Appearance menu, Synamptic started using the selected theme, but everythign else (99% of windows) went back to the default light grey color. Although my dark theme is selected, only Synaptic (that I know of) is using it.

I know about ubuntu. Not debian.I have installed debian 8 64bit on a notebook mainboard vga display only.During installation vga display worked. After restarting the lock up crypt hdd shows. After that debian login screen should show. It does not. Only the pointer shows.If I put the hdd in another note book, the debian login screen shows on the notebook's display. I then connect the vga display.
Then I can select settings, displays and mirror debian gui and gui will show on both displays. After restarting the notebook both displays show the debian gui. If I then put the hdd into the notebook mainboard, then the vga display will not show the debian login screen. The pointer shows. On ubuntu settings, displays, general option, I can set all displays. That option is not in debian 8. How do I get debian 8 to show the debian 8 login screen on the notebook mainboard vga display only computer?
