I have a LAMP installation for learning php and mysql. My online trainer pointed out that we always get a white screen when the php is wrong, when we should get error messages that say which line in the code is wrong etc.
I recently reinstalled mysql so it is the latest version from the repositories for Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS.
Is there a way to make error messages show up?
rencently, i move develop env from one linux machine to another, two linux have same gcc and make version, but at new linux machine make warning/error messages dont show color font(in old linux machine, warning messages is yellow, but now, it is white).so, when make, there are all white messages, i cant focus on warning and error.

I went about installing it thinking that it would all work. But it seems that I was wrong. So I try to start mysql, and here's what I get:

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am having problems with Thunderbird in Ubuntu Lucid. I am not sure since when. It could have been since I upgraded to Lucid from Karmic. When I open Thunderbird, a message pops up that is supposed to ask me for the password. However, it is all blank inside and doesn't display the text. I found that after I click on ALT+TAB a few times, the message displays correctly. This is very strange. Is anyone else having (or had) the same problem? Does anyone have an idea for a fix?I tried uninstalling and then reinstalling but it didn't work out (I didn't "purge" though).

The machine is a Clevo laptop with the dreaded SIS 671 / 672 chipset. The Ubuntu 8.04 is working flawlessly. Any other version I get several problems and depending on the mood of the system I get a vertical running display ( not readable ) or a left horizontal displaced screen (readable) ...
I tried more tan several CDs ranging from 9.01 to 10.10 both Ubuntu or Xubuntu. What is the plainest (simpler ) VGA mode in order to install it? I have tried vga=normal and even VGA =3 with no success. With the latest Ubuntu 10.10 I get another problem it simply does not recognize the HDD / SSD. I have traced the SSD problem with the sata_sis module in kernel 2.6.35 and up... Other distros have the same problem ...
I am at a loss trying to figure out the options to not show the scrolling boot messages during the boot-up of Clonezilla. Is there a way to have a loading splash screen or even have a static logo that is displayed during the boot process? I have my automated recovery method all ready to go short this one last feature. I had Evolution running at the time. When I did a cold boot of my laptop and I ran Evolution again, it does not display my e-mail messages anymore. In fact, I had to install Mozilla Thunderbird with the Enigmail extension so that I can read and write e-mail messages.

I've been attempting to set up a LAMP for local web development, which meant installing mysql-server. But now have a problem when trying to run mysql, I get:-

When trying to downgrade mysql-server I saw that there are dependency problems between the various modules (but can't recall which). But whichever route I truied the results are always the same.
Thought about trying XAMPP but I note that even has it's problems, is there any way I can get a lamp set up on FC14, or must I give it up as a bad job.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a fresh install of OpenSUSE 11.4 64bit and I have installed the AMD Display drivers for my Radeon HD 5970. Everything seems to be working quite well. I have a multiple monitor setup (1280x1024 monitor and a 1920x1080 monitor).
I have my primary display set to 1920x1080, however when I try to enable the second display, I get a CRTC error that the display is over the maximum (1920x1920). If I enable both monitors at lower resolutions, there is no problem.
I have done a fair bit of reading and have been unable to determine where this maximum is set, or how to change it. I'd like to be able to run both monitors at their native resolutions.
I have recently switched from Banshee to Songbird, and am loving it. Especially now that there is a ppa for it, which I just discovered. However, i have tried to download an addon and a theme, and apparently it just told me to restart after installing, but it doesn't show up when I go to View>Feathers. It just shows the default theme, Gonzo. Has anyone had this problem, or knows how to fix it?

I have a windows 7 pc from which I am using putty to connect to my other linux servers (all running redhat 5 and 6). So here is the scenario that works and one that does not work. And I'm trying to figure out the one that does not work. Scenario that works:
From windows 7 (putty) I ssh into Linux_Server_1.
echo $DISPLAY
localhost:10.0
I run xclock and I see it pop up on my windows 7 pc. I am using xming on windows 7 to help me populate the display from linux to windows. One that does not work:
From windows 7 (putty) I ssh into Linux_Server_1. Then from Linux_Server_1 I ssh into Linux_Server_2.
echo $DISPLAY
<no output>
I try to setup $DISPLAY with localhost:10.0 or 0.0 or even my windows 7 pc ip address:0.0 ....etc Then when I try to run xclock I doesn't work.
I get these error messages: Error: Can't open display: <ip of display>
Also as a side note all our Linux servers are sitting on one subnet. My pc is sitting on another subnet. I use vpn to connect to the subnet where the servers sit from my pc.

After that debian login screen should show. It does not. Only the pointer shows.If I put the hdd in another note book, the debian login screen shows on the notebook's display. I then connect the vga display.
Then I can select settings, displays and mirror debian gui and gui will show on both displays. After restarting the notebook both displays show the debian gui. If I then put the hdd into the notebook mainboard, then the vga display will not show the debian login screen. The pointer shows. On ubuntu settings, displays, general option, I can set all displays. That option is not in debian 8. How do I get debian 8 to show the debian 8 login screen on the notebook mainboard vga display only computer?
