I am trying to install themes that require gtk2-pixbuf-engine, I found the the theme engine but when I run

Installed Natty a few days ago and everything was working fine. I have a dual head setup with the left monitor rotated Clockwise 90 degrees (AKA rotate left). When I setup the the displays properly, instead of just cloning, I noticed a problem, making Unity unusable. When I apply the rotation either in the xorg.conf fle or using xrandr, the display shows a corrupt looking image. When I turn compiz off and use metacity instead it works perfectly fine.

I have 11.4 with kde 4.6, all up to date via YAST. Radeon driver, legacy ATI display hardware. LibreOffice is latest from the Stable:11.4 repo.
When I open LO, it causes the desktop to break up - diagonal stripes of blocks, and garbage (offset blocks) form all mouse movements from there until kdm restarted.
I restart by switching to F1 console, init 3, the init 5 as root. I can't seem to find any useful messages or logs.
Anyone ever see anything like this on bootup?

The display freezes/hangs, but the kernel is still kind of responsive because I can hit Ctrl-Alt-Del and after many seconds it reboots.
I can get it (Slackware 13.0) to boot this same kernel just fine from CD; it's only the normal bootup, after the install finishes, that this happens.
I enabled netconsole so I could see the messages, shown below, but there are no errors reported. The display corrupts and hangs at the "TCP cubic registered" message which appears to be unrelated to anything video-wise.

This is a strange problem, 2 Fedora 11 machines, both Dell's. On machine A, remote desktop is okay. On Machine B, remote desktop display is corrupt/unusable.
However, prior to upgrading to Fedora 11, both machines had Fedora 10, and, remote desktop on Machine A was corrupt and Machine B was okay.
Any idea what happened? Why did the upgrade fix one and break the other? Both machines where upgraded with Pre-upgrade. The two machines are in to separate locations, un-related to each other.
I'm trying to install new themes on ubuntu but it tells me that GTK + themes 'ubuntulooks'is not installed and won't load up the themes as it should. I went to package manager and installed it but still doesn't work. Themes to be installed, either overglossed or sickness-black. environment ubuntu 10.04.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm currently running a dual boot system of Win XP & Ubuntu 9.1. When first installed, about a month ago, all was working fine then I started running the update manager and for a while that was good also. Suddenly I started having problems, for example, I couldn't download new software. I kept getting a message about waiting on other software managers or something. (since the re-install that is no longer an issue). Next I was having problems installing updates for some reason. Apparently something got corrupted. When my wife tried to boot up the computer last night we got a message that had to do with the kernel and Ubuntu wouldn't load at all and I wound up re-installing the OS.
Obviously something got screwed up with some of the updates and now that I've got Ubuntu up and running again I'm afraid to download ANY updates at all. What is a person to do if you can't trust downloading updates from supposedly trusted sources? My attitude now is, if it ain't broke don't fix it.
After updating today, my buttons and scrollbars now look like this:The gradients on them are gone. Similarly, the transparant parts in the right-mouse menu dividers are white too, as is the active part of my gnome-do panel.What can I do to fix this? Ubuntu 10.04, nvidia drivers, using the ambiance theme and compiz (already tried turning off compiz but that didn't help)

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have recently switched from Banshee to Songbird, and am loving it. Especially now that there is a ppa for it, which I just discovered. However, i have tried to download an addon and a theme, and apparently it just told me to restart after installing, but it doesn't show up when I go to View>Feathers. It just shows the default theme, Gonzo. Has anyone had this problem, or knows how to fix it?

I partitioned it using the Acronis (proprietary) partitioning software. I've had to move these around a bit when I initially set it up and at one point grub didnt work anymore. It was after I had to expand my Windows (7) partition. However I'm told that most modern software dont use the same unit of measurement that fdisk still uses 'til this day. Should I even be concerned? I did have to reinstall grub after I initial set all my partitions up. This post is merely a double-check to make sure.

So when I drag it, I got maybe 1.03cm or 0.98cm.How do I set it so the Ruler conform to a coarse grid of say 0.5cm? Then, I am assured when dragging, it will only land on 0.5cm, 1.0cm, 1.5cm, and so on. And it would not be land on 0.79cm, 1.07cm, 1.43cm, etc.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a Compaq Presario r3300 with a 1.6 GHz processor from AMD and 2GHz ram. I am running Ubuntu 9.10 which has been religiously updated ever since I clean installed it on this computer. Today, about an hour after my last automatic update for Ubuntu 9.10, I went to click one of my mouse buttons, and nothing worked. This happened after I tried to open GIMP 2.6, which had never failed before. So there I was with no right or left click on my mouse or keypad, no any opening of GIMP. Things were frozen - but typing was okay. The cursor ended up in a window, and I could type. I waited for about 10 minutes, then turned off the computer with my power button. When I turned it on, I was able to open up a firefox and left click once. Then everything froze. I turned off, then turned on again. Same situation. One left click, then no reaction. Finally by chance when I was booting up again, the boot screen offering choices (which I don't know how to get to if I want to) came up, and I chose a different, earlier version of Ubuntu. Now I can click my mouse left or right. But still no GIMP. It is installed; just no reaction when I try to run the program as I have literally hundreds of times before. All started with the automatic update earlier this evening.

If you haven't install the 2.7 version yet. Before upgrading, backup "python" directory and then just restore it after installing 2.7.
I just did install the updates as they showed up with the Update manager, and now the themes are "broken." On startup, all windows are themed with the Redmond theme. When I open the Appearance dialog, some windows' theme come back. But nautilus still uses the Redmond theme (I'm not running it as root either). The icon theme is totally not taking effect. It's using the ugly gray icons regardless of what I have chosen. This all happened right after the latest update on Karmic, and after I've reinstalled my NVidia driver which breaks after every kernel update. I think it was a kernel update because the number of lines at the grub menu seemed to have increased.

today I've compiled and installed gtk+-2.24.4 (needed by the new GIMP), and shortly after GTK apps look like crap. The theme list is empty except for "Raleigh", which I presume is default.
What can be the cause and what config files should I look into to fix it?

View 3 Replies View RelatedSome of you may have had with issues after installing GIMP on Lucid Lynx 10.04. Which may be directly related to "gimp-help-en", which could prevent you from installing other applications and preforming system tasks. If so, use this method to fix it.
Process: (Terminal > $ sudo apt-get install gimp)
1. After installing Gimp go to the terminal:
2. Then load up the language support application:
3. Then it will ask you to install the "gimp-help-en", confirm it.
4. Fix'd
I think this issue is directly linked to a systems with multiple languages, but I haven't been able to test this theory out yet.
CC is now complete (didn't have access to the internet for 3 days so I couldn't upload it) but its working fine. Tested it out with an ISO and it works perfect. Rename to .deb and install it. Even though it says 11.04 - it works on any system with a problematic version of compiz. It is also harmless on a system without compiz although it does depend on it. cc-11.04.deb.zip

Normaly It is supposed to show themes in /usr/share/themes right? but now it shows themes only in ~/.themes folder. I don't know what affected the change. how do I configure it as to show themes in /usr/share/themes/,?
Also whatever theme I use , Controls would stay same(Classic controls). They wouldn't be update to those of the Theme used.

I have been through a number of attempted fixes via the thread 434687-software-repository-corruption but have not managed to resolve the issue. There is no one at the location that could repeat the "update" to hopefully fix the issue that way. I have a copy of the 11.2 DVD iso file on the remote computer. Is there some way that I can get the repository DB rebuilt or reinstalled so that I can then install other software and do Online Updates? Whatever I try has to be doable with the system running so that I can OpenVPN connect and issue commands remotely.
i updated Ubuntu and do not get any more display. when i bootup , i can see the ubuntu flash in middle of the screen for 1 sec and everything disappears.
