Ubuntu Multimedia :: Any Firefox Addons - Video Downloader?

May 22, 2010

I am aware of the multitude of firefox addons there are, but they are not really what I am looking for. I am also aware that I can just recover the temp files from my hard drive, that is not what I am looking for either. I was wondering if you guys knew of any actual software for linux that does the job, something like orbit downloader. The reason being is that orbit allowed multiple http connections at once, making for much faster downloads, much more efficient on system resources that browser addons. It was also in a neat little menu.

Ubuntu Networking :: Firefox Addons Not Allowed - Error 228

Mar 29, 2010

I had firefox having an inability to download addons, so I edited the dhclient.conf file by entering the following into a terminal:

Code:
sudo gedit /etc/dhcp3/dhclient.conf
When the document opened, I edited the line that starts prepend domain-name-servers to read:

Code:
8.8.8.8,8.8.4.4;
Saved and closed the file. I went back to the terminal and opened the nsswitch.conf file by entering:

Code:
sudo gedit /etc/nsswitch.conf

When the document opens, I edited the line hosts: files mdns4_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] dns mdns4 to read:

Code:
hosts: files dns
Saved and exited the document. To be on the safe side, I restarted my computer after making the edits. [/QUOTE]

This was done following the thread someone wrote on a similar error: [URL]. Still does not allow addons...

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Songbird Won't Display / Show Themes Or Addons?

I have recently switched from Banshee to Songbird, and am loving it. Especially now that there is a ppa for it, which I just discovered. However, i have tried to download an addon and a theme, and apparently it just told me to restart after installing, but it doesn't show up when I go to View>Feathers. It just shows the default theme, Gonzo. Has anyone had this problem, or knows how to fix it?

I was able to purchase and download the .amz file from amazon, but my system doesn't know what to do with it. IOWS, if I click on the .amz file from the file browser or from firefox, it is opened as a binary file in gedit. Unfortunately, I can't locate where the downloader executable was installed and don't know how to make a file association.

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Using The Amazon MP3 Downloader On 11.2?

Dec 1, 2009

has anyone been successful in using the Amazon MP3 downloader on 11.2? It does no longer work because it wants specific (old) versions of libboost*:

[krienke@bliss:~/tmp] 1001 > /usr/bin/amazonmp3
/usr/bin/amazonmp3: error while loading shared libraries: libboost_filesystem.so.1.36.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
[krienke@bliss:~/tmp] 1002 > locate libboost_filesystem
/usr/lib/libboost_filesystem-mt.so
/usr/lib/libboost_filesystem.so
/usr/lib/libboost_filesystem.so.1.39.0

I notified Amazon about this, and they said they do not know if or when there will be a running version of the MP3 downloader available and without it there is no way to download any MP3 from Amazon. They gave me back my money and recommended to buy elsewhere....

Does anyone know if installing the old version of libboost (from 11.1) will work? What else, aside from amazons downloader, does use libboost*? So what app might fail if I install the old version of libboost suitable for the downloader?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Firefox Smooth Scrolling And Video Flickers?

May 27, 2010

I'm using the Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Desktop 64-bit distribution. Hardware is the Dell Vostro 1015; laptop with Intel (g)45 express chipset with Intel x4500MHD graphics accelerator. Celeron 900 2.2ghz single core, 1GB RAM.

The issue is I have smooth scrolling enabled in Firefox. And whenever I scroll the page, it's very choppy/laggish/not smooth at all. When I go on ..... to watch a video, any slight scrolling will cause it to flicker like crazy. The effect reminds me of when I run Windows without installing drivers for the video card.

Now I wanted to make sure it wasn't a hardware issue, so I installed Windows7 and did the exact same thing. Everything runs smoothly, I can smooth scroll no problem, and video playbacks without any flickers whatsoever. It is a lower end laptop, which is basically for the occasional ..... and web browsing.

I will try the 32 bit edition in the meantime to see if it helps. I was under the impression that 32bit limits your maximum ram to just under 4GB. (I planned to upgrade the laptop a bit)

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Flash Plugin In Firefox - Video Cripples CPU

Aug 30, 2010

Opening any flash video with the flash player plugin cause my CPU to go to 100% (even more but I assume that's just top reporting dual core or something. I want to watch ..... and stuff without burning up my CPU so I need to fix this.

A simple "locate -i *flash*.so" gives this:
Code:
/usr/lib/firefox/plugins/flashplugin-alternative.so
/usr/lib/flashplugin-installer/libflashplayer.so
/usr/lib/iceape/plugins/flashplugin-alternative.so
/usr/lib/iceweasel/plugins/flashplugin-alternative.so
/usr/lib/kde4/kipiplugin_flashexport.so
/usr/lib/libvisual-0.4/morph/morph_flash.so
/usr/lib/midbrowser/plugins/flashplugin-alternative.so
/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/flashplugin-alternative.so
/usr/lib/openoffice/basis3.2/program/libflashli.so
/usr/lib/xulrunner/plugins/flashplugin-alternative.so
/usr/lib/xulrunner-addons/plugins/flashplugin-alternative.so
/usr/share/ubufox/plugins/libflashplayer.so

Although I did install the package flashplugin-nonfree, in debian that I'm a little more used to flashplugin-nonfree provided libflashplayer.so and not flashplugin-alternative.so which seem to be the one all my browsers are using. However about plugins in firefox says very little except "application/x-shockwave-flash Shockwave Flash". Can I just replace all the flashplugin-alternative.so with libflashplayer.so and maybe make some links or something or would that be bad?

The process using my CPU is reported as plugin-containe but it only happens with flash video and not any other plugins. If the video is playing, paused or stopped/not started makes no difference. I did replace all the flashplugin-alternative.so with libflashplayer.so, it didn't help. Seems firefox was using that plugin all along, presumably from here "/usr/share/ubufox/plugins/". I can't imagine I'm the only one who wants a fix for this here, there should be hordes. I use the latest kbuntu, flash player, firefox and kernel all from the repo.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: No Sound For Flash Video In Firefox - Kubuntu 10.10

Nov 6, 2010

I am having a problem getting sound to work in flash-videos in Kubuntu 10.10. My system currently has two working sound cards, the one integrated into my motherboard and the other is a USB Logitech headset. After installation, the speakers were set as my default output device which I did not want. I was able to move all the sounds over to the USB headset using phonon. While Amarok works, videos work (downloaded, wmv, avi, divx, etc) I cannot get flash video to work in Firefox. I set up my prefered device as the USB headset for everything in Phonon, but still the sound will only come out of my integrated soundcard (speakers). I'm not sure what exactly I am missing, I set everything up, but still it's a no go. What switch did I miss? I haven't used Kubuntu for a while, but i'm pretty sure this worked fine in Ubuntu 9.04 (when I last used it).
