I recently installed the newest version of Songbird, it worked for two days. Now when I click Songbird, it tells me it's starting down in the Window List, but it never pops up. I've tried all three methods from here to install it afterwards... none of them I got to work. Anyone have a clue what could possibly going on? This is on Ubuntu 9.10(32bit)
View 6 RepliesI know, Songbird does not currently support Linux... I got the x64 .deb file off this website (http://skyzim.com/songbird-1-4-3-installer/) and installed it without issue. I got it up and running then screwed something up with the graphics and needed to reinstall. Now when I get the same file off the website, install it, then try to run I get an error "GLib-ERROR **: /build/buildd/glib2.0-2.24.1/glib/gmem.c:157: failed to allocate 14145530384 bytes". I tried doing a sudo apt-get remove libvisual-0.4-plugins as was recommended elsewhere to no avail. Anyone know how to get songbird up and running again? I did a "Removal" through synaptic to uninstall the first time, perhaps that is an issue?

sudo cp /usr/share/applications/gnome-appearance-properties.desktop /usr/share/gdm/autostart/loginwindow,
and:
sudo unlink /usr/share/gdm/autostart/loginwindow/gdm-simple-greeter.desktop
i later realized what i did and i tried to unlink the gnome-appearance-properties.desktop but no luck.
is there any way to stop the appearance properties from popping up at login, and to reinstall the gdm-simple-greeter.desktop ?
I have two external monitors connected to my laptop, one with DVI port and one with displayport port.
Now when I run something a new window always pops up in the monitor on the left. I guess it is set so a net window always pops up at 0, 0 pixel or something. I want it to pop up in the monitor on the right.
I'm having problem getting my Edimax EW-7711UTn to work (I'm stuck with using the ethernet cable for now). The light flashes on it and it picks up wireless networks, but when I'm connecting to them, I put in the key, it tries to connect, but the wireless key window pops up again and again and again. I've looked up other threads about this, but none of the suggested methods have worked for me (I've checked to see if it's compatible, apparently it isn't, but people seem to have got it working before...) Every time I reboot or shutdown my PC, the login window shortly pops up. The PC does shutdown or reboot normally afterwards. When I use the terminal to shutdown/reboot (sudo shutdown -h now or sudo reboot) all goes well. The PC is running Debian Squeeze with the GNOME desktop environment.
View 7 Replies View RelatedJust during the last three days, when running Update Manager, clicking Check, downloading all available updates, then Clicking Install Updates, the Downloading Files window pops up but it is blank. and it stays blank. The little rotating icon indicates something's going on but, NO. Nothing has happened, even after a couple of hours. Trying to close Downloading Files brings up a window to Force Quit. Then trying to close Update Manager has no effect. to shorten the story, finally a window pops up saying that the "AT SPI Registry" is not responding. I'm sure trying the same thing will not yield different results. I'm running 10.04.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI installed new version of Choqok 1.0 Beta3 (0.9.90). It works nice, but the notifications for new posts bothers me. With every timeline refresh, system tray notification window pops up informing me for new posts.
How to disable notifications for Choqok? I cannot find option in Choqok. However, I can disable application notifications in system tray options, but in this case some ugly little window pops on the top of the screen informing me for new posts.
Iam tring to install 11.4 on my new computer, when i start the computer the green screen pops up and syslinux starts. However when it finishes loading a dialog box pops up saying "Make sure that cd number 1 is in your drive" . Obviously it it is,
because i am booting from the dvd. I dropped to the shell where i saw this message "Inappropriate ioct1 for device". What does all this mean.
I'm well aware of Songbird no longer being supported for Linux but I know there is .deb package out there somewhere. Hopefully in the latest release for Linux as well. 've searched but have found nothing. The thing is, I can't find anything 'I like' other than Songbird. It's such a shame its no longer supported.

1. Leave Gnome installed, but prevent it from launching when typing startx
2. Have both X11 and my prefered default window manager (blackbox) startup when I type startx (or similar)
My ultimate goal is to leave Gnome installed but "dormant" and when I do a remote ssh -X be able to use X11 forwarding with blackbox.
I've been having problems with the Songbird client that we normally download from repositories. It is slow, unstable, and crashes a lot. So I finally figured out that if you download the latest developer version, it is fast, stable, and hasnt crashed yet! The only downside is not all plugins are compatible, but it is still awesome to use, its my favorite audio player in Ubuntu. [URL]

I have recently switched from Banshee to Songbird, and am loving it. Especially now that there is a ppa for it, which I just discovered. However, i have tried to download an addon and a theme, and apparently it just told me to restart after installing, but it doesn't show up when I go to View>Feathers. It just shows the default theme, Gonzo. Has anyone had this problem, or knows how to fix it?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI really am a great fan of Songbird, but there's one thing that keeps annoying me: searching my music collection. I have about 12k songs (67GB) in my library, and using the search bar is pretty much a disaster: whatever I type it takes ages to come up with something, and if I delete any of the written to enter something new it hangs for like five minutes. This sort of forced me to look for specific songs myself or just keep it going on shuffle, none of which is a good solution.
I believe the problem is that songbird searches after every single typed character instead of waiting until I'm finished, which is a cool feature with smaller amounts of data to look through, but in my case it's just annoying and pointless. How to disable this feature? I am using Songbird 1.2.0, Build 1146.
My Rythmbox and SongBird when I click a mp3 the fan goes into over drive and the mp3 song play timer goes up in three's and doesn't play any audio. But I can play the mp3 files in Audacious.
I have gstreamer installed and I can do gstreamer-properties and its setup right for alsa. Whats going on with Songbird and Rythmbox?
Newly installed Debian system from years with Fedora. Ran system update and system got hosed, booted but no Gnome. Got Gnome back after MANY 'aptitude upgrade's. Xemacs disappeared! Along with other things I installed. Tried to install Xemacs but it is broken and will not install, complains about dpkg TOO current(?). So downloaded Xemacs for Xemacs.org and compiled source, installed.
Now when I start Xemacs is does not run in an X window but runs emacs in a terminal window. If I run it from a script, it complains about 'not in tty window'.

It seems the latest nvidia drivers (255.44) don't seem to work on my Lenovo Thinkpad T61 in Lucid. Has anybody gotten it to work? I've tried to just use the System -> Drivers control panel to install and activate the current nvidia drivers as well as installing it from the command line. However, when I reboot, I see the nvidia splash screen come up for a second, then the screen goes blank, and then the nvidia splash screen pops up again, and then the screen goes blank again, over and over. It seems to be in some kind of infinite initialization loop. My T61 has the nvidia NVS 140m chipset. This is frustrating since the previous drivers seemed to work ok. When I try to revert to older drivers, it complains now that they're no longer compatible with the latest kernel headers, etc. I've had to boot up into the failsafe graphics mode to be able to use the laptop.

But when I create a user via LDAP, the system doesn't seem to want to know.LDAP actually creates a home directory for the new user, but the system merely assigns it a UID and nothing else.I have access to another opensuse system which does not behave in this way. I.e. I can set up a user exclusively in LDAP and the system will recognise the new user no problem.I have compared the two ldap configurations to see if there's some magic "propagate LDAP users to Local users" setting, but this doesn't appear to exist

I get an Untrusted Connection error when I visit this site to login into my GRE account, and I cannot add it as an exception, in Mozilla Firefox 4.0 on Ubuntu 11.04. When I visit the site using Chrome, I have no issues. Is this a bug in Firefox's certificate management? I'm using Ubuntu 11.04. I do not get this error in Windows' Firefox 4.0.
