I'm trying to install a theme, but I can't find the .themes folder.I goggled for it and found ~./themes and trying to extract there resulted in an error. where does it live?

Since of late "Appearance preference" behaves awkwardly . Normaly It is supposed to show themes in /usr/share/themes right? but now it shows themes only in ~/.themes folder. I don't know what affected the change. how do I configure it as to show themes in /usr/share/themes/,?
Also whatever theme I use , Controls would stay same(Classic controls). They wouldn't be update to those of the Theme used.
I'm trying to install new themes on ubuntu but it tells me that GTK + themes 'ubuntulooks'is not installed and won't load up the themes as it should. I went to package manager and installed it but still doesn't work. Themes to be installed, either overglossed or sickness-black. environment ubuntu 10.04.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI would like to install a new icon theme without effecting my currently selected panel theme, as i think the Ambience panel theme looks really nice and unified but im not too keen on the Ubuntu-Mono icons.Is this easily possible, without going into my icon folders and replacing all the instances of one style for another?Are there any applications for gnome icon theming like OS X's Candybar?Im sure others must desire to change only the icons and perhaps it is really easy and this is why i couldnt dig anythin up on google, that or im a useless googler.

I'm giving windows 7 a break and have a fresh, updated install of opensuse 11.4. The problem I have is that when I plug my samsung galaxy S2 in I can't view the pictures I've taken with the camera.I get the popup box saying camera and giving me the option to view with gwenview, digikam and filemanager. Now i can see the folders including the DCIM folder that the images are stored in but it's empty?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm in Debian testing and I had Gtk+-3 from the apt-get. Now because I wanted to install Xnoise in Debian from source, I needed gtk+-2. So I installed gtk+-2 from the source. And after that Xnoise was installed and worked great. I've noticed that Xnoise theme was standard(gray). Note: I installed both of them to /usr/local(default/no prefix). But when I rebooted my computer, all Gnome themes was also gray. BTW: After reset I can't hear any sound in Xnoise, but this isn't the subject here. Therefor, I went to System->Preferences->Appearance and It tells me the following error in a yellow box(translated): "The theme won't seen as excepted because GTK+ Adwaita suit isn't installed."
I had the "clean theme" which is the default Gnome theme in Debian. Now all the themes have gone.... I can see only "Custom" which is ugly gray. How can I restore it?
how to use my downloaded themes, I used a default Xfce theme. The only issue I saw with that was that the Synamptic window did not take the selected theme, it was default. When I selected my downloaded them in the Appearance menu, Synamptic started using the selected theme, but everythign else (99% of windows) went back to the default light grey color. Although my dark theme is selected, only Synaptic (that I know of) is using it.

Plymouth does not work. What went wrong? or what more should I do to make it work.Also how do I install themes to plymouth, which are not there in the theme package? I have come across this theme I really like but it is in tar.gz and I am looking for some guidance from the forum to run tar.gz packages.
When K3B is creating an .iso image to file and fails to read a sector even at the very end of a DVD it issues you a warning and removes the file from the destination folder, regardless of what choice you made in the "remove file when completed" dialog.
I want it to leave the incomplete .iso image there so I can play with it, any suggestions cause I've searched scratched and dissected, trying to do my homework but doggone if I can figure it out,
When I install themes from xfce-look.org they are ugly and don't look how they should. Am I missing a package?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI don't know what happened here, but running debian lenny and all of a sudden my icon theme is rodent, a decent chunk of icons are not showing up, and when I go to the icon changing panel they all look the same - like rodent! Icon themes I put in ~/.icons don't show up, and the icons in /usr/share/icons are permission as such:

lxappearance won't let me change themes on Squeeze. It just doesn't do anything, neither preview, nor theme setting. Turns out this is a known bug, and allegedly fixed. Ppl are told to "upgrade" their package. However, in Squeeze it's still the old package, and it doesn't work. So I filed another new bug report, which they closed and told me to upgrade the package.
Upgrade? From Sid? What happened to fixing Testing so it can become the next stable? Not much stable if a major DE can't change themes. Not that it's a real problem, but it's
annoying. I purged lxappearance and manually installed its Sid counterpart, only to find out

I a trying to get DVD playback working on 11.2 64 KDE 3.5I did the one click install.Kaffeine is now broken)I launch xine from the command line and get this when I select DVDYou can see the DVD STRAWBERRY_MARSHMALLOW_VOL1 udf 4.3 GB 0.0 KB in under "my computer" in the image and it shows up under /mediaI have disk and cdrom enabled under my user account. What else do I have to configure so xine can access the DVD drive?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI had the above message when I first installed openSuse and tried to play DVDs. I tried googling the above message, thinking that I was missing some software. It turned out that the message simply meant that it couldn't find the dvd.
Messages such as:
Cannot find plugin for MRL [cdda:/]
Cannot find plugin for MRL [dvd:/]
Basically mean that SuSE is having problems finding a cd or dvd. This is most likely due to symbolic links for cdrom and/or dvd not being present.
I was having this problem on Kaffeine. Also having problems playing dvds on smplayer and VLC player.
I found the answer to the problem on the following thread (all credit to jdmcdaniel3 for the key initial post), which does a very thorough job of explaining about the 70-persistent-cd.rules file, where to find it, and what you can do with it.

The thread explains how to edit the 70-persistent-cd-rules file or, better, to create a copy called 90-persistent-cd.rules and edit that file to add symbolic link entries for cdrom and/or dvd if they are missing. Doing this it is possible for the cdrom and dvd symbolic links to point to the same physical drive or to different drives, depending on what you wish to do.
Kaffeine seems to expect to find things in cdrom and dvd. It will work once you have set up the symbolic links for these as described in the above post.
If you simply look at the 70-persistent-cd.rules file, you will see the symbolic links allocated to the cd/dvd drive(s) on your system. If you make a note of these symbolic link values you can use them to set the drive information in applications such as smplayer or VLC player :
VLC player - go into Media/Open Disc and set the drive accordingly, depending on whether you are playing a cd or dvd. Needs to be done each time you play a cd or dvd.
I think creating the 90-persistent-cd.rules file as mentioned above and adding the entry for cdrom and/or dvd may work for other cd/dvd playing software that expects to find these links, but I haven't tested running anything other than smplayer, VLC player and Kaffeine. These cover my requirements.
Following the above I am now able to play cds and dvds in my cd and dvd drive respectively.
I've been running a java-based audio player for years and it works just fine on 11.2. When I run the exact same software on 11.3 it plays the first track of an album and then fails to play any subsequent track - with no apparent error message. It pretends to play it, advancing the progress bar correctly, but no sound is heard.Having looked for explanations on the web I found a claim that java based programs (at least Sun java 1.6) do not work well with pulse audio. Does 11.3 use pulse audio as a default?
Assuming it does, the solution suggested was to run java via padsp. I am not sure that this is the problem in my case - but I am happy to give it a try. However, I can't seem to find padsp anywhere. It is not available from the community repositories. Where can I get hold of it?
This is a relatively fresh install. Anyway, no matter what GTK+ theme I select (with Sonar and oxygen-gtk also being available), it always defaults back to Raleigh. I've tried restarting x, logging out and in, rebooting, and reinstalling oxygen-gtk to no avail.If it matters, I found that qtcurve-gtk2 and qtcurve-kde4 weren't installed (before I did all of the troubleshooting) so I installed them, although there was no change in the situation (and neither show up as options).

In the System Settings -> Desktop Theme menu, only four themes are available: Air, Air for Netbooks, Air openSUSE, and Aya. I clicked the "Get New Themes" button and tried to install a new theme. The theme appeared to have installed correctly, but it does not appear in the list.
View 1 Replies View Relatedsince few days I have installed a fresh debian testing on my new laptop, I am using XFCE4 as DE, I noticed that when I use these themes: greybird, bluebird and albatross the GTK3 applications (mostly from gnome 3 stack) do not display correctly the application. I have another laptop with an older debian testing with XFCE4 and the GTK3 themes work properly. The only relevant difference between the old computer and the new one are the video driver, the older use radeonsi driver and newest the nvidia blob binary.
