View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an Ubuntu server installation set up as a media server with Subsonic in a medium sized office environment. I allow uploads from all employees to the media folder on the server. As you can imagine, it's going to get a bit messy in there with multiple spellings of artist and album names for directory names, duplicate files, and incorrect filenames and tags. I was hoping I could find a script that I could run daily as a cron job to clean up the media drive. I would like to maintain a path similar to: /mnt/music/Artist/Album/Song.file
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to find a script or command or program out there that would scan a directory for a/v files and display the codecs they use.
For example, let's say i have 3 avi files, 1.avi, 2.avi, 3.avi. I want to be able to figure out what each of them contains for video and audio tracks.
I know ffmpeg -i will show me what I want, but how do i incorporate it to do an entire directory.
As most do now my local library has a decent catalog of audiobooks, which I would like to be able to listen to on my iPod. These books can be downloaded only by using Overdrive Media Console (which is available only for Windows and Mac, and also requires Windows Media Player to work!) and iTunes if you want to transfer to an iPod.
I've searched around for Linux friendly solutions. They fall into two categories, try Wine/virtual machine/dual boot to run the required software, or give up. But pretty much everything I have found is about four years old now. Has anything changed in the last few years, or is this still pretty much the way things are? At the moment I use my girlfriend's Vista computer to download books, but I would like to be as Windows free as possible, and able to do it on my own computer.
Can anyone offer advice for being able to download audiobooks and put them on an iPod, with a minimum of non-Linux software? Relatedly, I would also be quite happy to replace the iPod firmware with Rockbox, but from what I can tell that would make library audiobooks even less accessible (so asking if this is an option is like asking for $10 after being refused $1).
I've added my "Music" and "Video" folders to my media library in VLC which is useful, but it doesn't seem to update itself when I add/delete/rename files (using my file manager).
The only way I can find to update VLC's record/cache is to remove and re-add the Music/Video folder to the media library. Is there a better way?
I'm well aware of Songbird no longer being supported for Linux but I know there is .deb package out there somewhere. Hopefully in the latest release for Linux as well. 've searched but have found nothing. The thing is, I can't find anything 'I like' other than Songbird. It's such a shame its no longer supported.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI know, Songbird does not currently support Linux... I got the x64 .deb file off this website (http://skyzim.com/songbird-1-4-3-installer/) and installed it without issue. I got it up and running then screwed something up with the graphics and needed to reinstall. Now when I get the same file off the website, install it, then try to run I get an error "GLib-ERROR **: /build/buildd/glib2.0-2.24.1/glib/gmem.c:157: failed to allocate 14145530384 bytes". I tried doing a sudo apt-get remove libvisual-0.4-plugins as was recommended elsewhere to no avail. Anyone know how to get songbird up and running again? I did a "Removal" through synaptic to uninstall the first time, perhaps that is an issue?

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy media library isn't huge, but it isn't tiny (~50 GB). Every month or so, I just manually copy ~/Music, ~/Pictures, and ~/Videos to my EHD, and delete the old backup. But this is far from ideal. It's pretty slow, for one thing (~50 GB all together). It also isn't versioned, so if I ever want to go back multiple versions, I'm out of luck.
Is there any simple, stable, incremental way to do this? I'm open to using traditional version control systems like Git for it, although I haven't used them before for anything other than code. Command-line is fine (especially if it's scriptable). I only need to back up these 3 folders--anything that's not media is stored in my Dropbox.
I've been having problems with the Songbird client that we normally download from repositories. It is slow, unstable, and crashes a lot. So I finally figured out that if you download the latest developer version, it is fast, stable, and hasnt crashed yet! The only downside is not all plugins are compatible, but it is still awesome to use, its my favorite audio player in Ubuntu. [URL]

I recently installed the newest version of Songbird, it worked for two days. Now when I click Songbird, it tells me it's starting down in the Window List, but it never pops up. I've tried all three methods from here to install it afterwards... none of them I got to work. Anyone have a clue what could possibly going on? This is on Ubuntu 9.10(32bit)
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have recently switched from Banshee to Songbird, and am loving it. Especially now that there is a ppa for it, which I just discovered. However, i have tried to download an addon and a theme, and apparently it just told me to restart after installing, but it doesn't show up when I go to View>Feathers. It just shows the default theme, Gonzo. Has anyone had this problem, or knows how to fix it?
View 1 Replies View Relatedis there a way to make it work with .ape files? i try to open ape files and it will open instead a prompt window in songbird asking which program to open the file with.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI really am a great fan of Songbird, but there's one thing that keeps annoying me: searching my music collection. I have about 12k songs (67GB) in my library, and using the search bar is pretty much a disaster: whatever I type it takes ages to come up with something, and if I delete any of the written to enter something new it hangs for like five minutes. This sort of forced me to look for specific songs myself or just keep it going on shuffle, none of which is a good solution.
I believe the problem is that songbird searches after every single typed character instead of waiting until I'm finished, which is a cool feature with smaller amounts of data to look through, but in my case it's just annoying and pointless. How to disable this feature? I am using Songbird 1.2.0, Build 1146.
My Rythmbox and SongBird when I click a mp3 the fan goes into over drive and the mp3 song play timer goes up in three's and doesn't play any audio. But I can play the mp3 files in Audacious.
I have gstreamer installed and I can do gstreamer-properties and its setup right for alsa. Whats going on with Songbird and Rythmbox?
Ubuntu10.10.i want a media player with all media codecs.it should able to play all formats of videos and audios so please suggest me a media player.(i used km player in windows i want a media player like that)
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen trying to access "Multimedia" from System Settings, I get an error message as follows:
Code:
Cannot load library /usr/lib/kde4/kcm_phonon.so:(/usr/lib/kde4/kcm_phonon.so undefined symbol: _ZN6Phonon12GlobalConfig28setAudioCaptureDeviceListForENS_8CategoryE5QListiE)Cannot load library /usr/lib/kde4/kcm_phonon.so:(/usr/lib/kde4/kcm_phonon.so undefined symbol: _ZN6Phonon12GlobalConfig28setAudioCaptureDeviceListForENS_8CategoryE5QListiE)
Possible Reasons:
* An error occurred during your last KDE upgrade leaving an orphaned control module
* You have old third party modules lying around.
Check these points carefully and try to remove the module mentioned in the error message. If this fails, consider contacting your distributor or packager. And then when I click OK, it closes, and that's it. how to prevent this, so I can access the multimedia settings and change them. The reason I want to see the settings, is because Amarok 2.3 won't play any songs (even though version 1.4 still works).
I'm unable to reset using either the reset option in gnome shell or the command using a terminal. When I select it the shell exits and displays the graphic "exploding" and then it just sits there. Shutdown works fine; just no reset. Any ideas? I've installed from the DVD. I booted the live CD and it resets just fine so I know it's no my hardware
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using mplayer with vdpau enabled in Ubuntu 10.10. It works very well in general, reducing cpu usage for hd from 50% to 60% to around 10 -15% or less. There is however one slightly annoying problem. It is that mplayer would appear to "forget" its vdpau output setting once in a while and especially after rebooting. When that happens it needs to be "reset" in order to use vdpau. "Resetting" basically just means opening gnome-mplayer and change video output to xv and then back to vdpau again.
I should clarify that the setting has not actually been lost, it still says "vdpau", it just need resetting).
I have an NTFS volume on my system which I regularly access from within Ubuntu 9.10, mostly to play the plethora of DVD images (*.iso files) stored there. I use VLC Media Player to watch the content. For some reason, VLC's file browser only shows a small subset of the files by default. I have to select "All Files" instead of "Media Files" to see all the *.iso's.
What's this about? Since they're all the same type of file, I don't understand why some would be viewed as "media files" but others not. If the files were on a Linux-type filesystem (ext3 etc.) I would guess it had something to do with permissions, but I'm not sure how file ownership & permissions apply to a mounted NTFS volume.
Ive been googling for an hour, trying to remove everything named mplayer manually, but with no result. How on earth do i reset mplayer settings the default settings, or how to i remove it completley from my harddrive?

./configure script fails to configure libsf. Please check the following last few lines of configure script error.

It seems the file libdb does exist. man dbopen displays man page for dbopen. I also tried to ln -s /usr/lib/libdb.a and libdb.so /lib dir but all were in vain.
Installed Ubuntu 10.10 (32-bit) and as the title implies, Rhythmbox is not fetching all of Magnatunes library. It works, it loads Magnatune and the songs all play, but it only loads 5 artists with a total of 18 albums. I am not sure, but going by the names of the artists, it is possible it is just loading the first 5 artists. Anybody else have this problem? Is there a fix? For the record, Jamendo's catalog loads just fine with 22,636 artists loaded.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy webcam works AWESOME when it works. However, occasionally it produces no video for Ubuntu based applications. Cheese, aMSN, Skype or anything else for Ubuntu Lucid.
I have tried power off & cold booting. Moving from one USB port to another, warm booting etc...
The only way to make it work instantly is to boot into Windows XP and access the Webcam. Then upon rebooting to Ubuntu the cam works perfectly again.
It's not a matter of Ubuntu finding and recognizing the cam. It always does and TRYS to activate the cam (the led comes on when loading any cam application) but it produces no video.
Is there a command I can use to force a RESET of the video device so I can stop loading Windows?
I have hauppauge pvr-350 which has an mpeg2 decoder with an RGB and s-video out to let me send video to my tv. I'm using the ivtv drivers which work well. To test the card I ran
Code:
cat test.mpeg > /dev/video16
-bash: /dev/video16: Permission denied
So then I did
Code:
ls -l /dev/video16
crw-rw---- 1 root video 81, 5 2010-10-22 12:21 /dev/video16
sudo chmod a+rw /dev/video16
[sudo] password for patrick:
cat test.mpeg > /dev/video16
However the permissions get reset everytime I reboot. Is there any way to pass an argument to the ivtv driver to change the default permissions?
