Ubuntu Installation :: Unable To Load The Driver For Matrox M9148?

I recently upgraded to 10.10 from 10.04 on my x86_64 system. The upgrade went fine except it cannot load the driver for my Matrox M9148. ("m9x")I simply get a "Cannot load driver" error. (there is more to it, will paste when I finish work)Basically the driver is there and in place, it loads it but cannot use it.When I go to reinstall the driver again manually, it dies with an error only supports Xorg up to 7.5So, now I see this is an Xorg and driver compat issue.I have reported it to Matrox and am awaiting a reply.
In the mean time though, since I need my machine working, is there anyway around the issue, or could I even roll back xorg to whatever it was in 10.04 to get the drivers working again?
I have 3 monitors and am trying to get the Matrox TripleHead2Go Digital signal splitter with my Linux workstation. When I connect them all I get are blinking green lights on the monitors which I think means no signal. Do I need to download a Linux driver? I've searched online but can't find anything. Maybe the problem is something else. Same happens when trying to connect to my PC.
I have a DELL T3500 64 bit and I am unable to install the following Matrox driver: M9140 LP PCIe x16 in RedHat ENT Linux 5.1 .Presently I have a nviDia driver that I would like to uninstall from the workstation so that I could install the Matrox driver.

I am running Kubuntu 10.04 LTS and have had no problems with my ATI card up to kernel 2.6.32-29. Upon update/upgrade to 2.6.32-30 the FGLRX driver will not load graphics and I can only get the text system login. If I reboot to -29 everything works great.
After a failed upgrade from 10.10, I went for a complete reinstall. What I'm seeing is that when I install the nvidia-current driver x / gdm doesn't seem to load. I get a blank screen for a bit, then it drops to the last lines in the terminal from loading up. I can ctr-alt-f1 to get to the first tty.

I am totally new to Linux and have a PC here with 128 MB Ram and a 10 GB HDD. It has Windows Millenium installed but I presume this will be wiped during the install process if I so wish.,
I am part way through the install using CD's and have just chosen my required alnguage and then keyboard layout. The next option is asking me to choose what device drivers to load and most appear to be HDD Drivers. I haven't a clue what to choose here?
I downloaded the full install of Fedora 10. I burned the DVD and it booted okay. Going through the startup stuff, select language, keyboard, ect and then I choose the dvd as the source of the image. Then I get "no driver found" and gives me the option to choose from a list of drivers or to use a driver disk. I saw something in the forums about someone having the same problem but theirs was a video card issue. On the list of drivers it looks like they are network card drivers. I have no idea what to do. I am using a NVIDIA Geforce FX 5500 if that helps. I also did not verify the iso, though wouldn't it not boot at all if the iso image was broken?
I known the Driver Disk can be loaded by anaconda when specifying the 'dd=xx' parameter. But how should I do if I still want to use these drivers which are included in the Driver Disk in an up running Operating System?
I have not a real environment to test it, but looks like the driver modules in the Driver Disk won't be installed into the real installed system. Am I right? Are there some tools which can load Driver Disk in a up running Operating System?
I am currently using an Acer Extensa machine with Windows 7 and Ubuntu 10.04 dual boot. I tried to upgrade 10.04 to 10.10 , everything was fine until I am asked to restart. After restart I selected Ubuntu from dual boot menu. It cant load Ubuntu and machine keeps rebooting.
Now, my issue is that I have no access to ethernet in my apartment so I need to rely on wifi for my install. But during the install when it is looking for the network hardware it never sees the TP-Link Dongle and never asks if I wan to load the firmware. I even tried it with the CD image that has the non-free drivers included but it never asks for the drivers. Any other distro, like Linux Mint 7.3, sees the dongle fine.
So is there a way to force load the realtek-firmware drivers during install?
I had to erase a swap partition on a hardrive that has ubuntu in order to install windows xp on another hardrive. After I did it win XP loads on both hadrives. How do I get to Ubuntu and how can I make another swap without having to reinstall the whole ubuntu?
I have a Gateway laptop currently running Win Vista Home Basic. I have grown tired of repeatedly reinstalling this OS so I thought I would give Ubuntu a shot. The laptop is running a 1.6 GHz Celeron, 1470 MB of RAM, and has an 80 Gig hard drive. My problem is that I cannot get Ubuntu to load/install. I cannot run it from CD, I cannot setup as dual boot, and I cannot setup as a standalone. I am not worried about wiping out my Vista, as I said I have grown tired of it. OH and I cannot locate my Vista install disk at this time either.
I have my first problem with drivers in Linux! I installed openSuSE 11.4 x86 on my computer (Intel Dual-Core 2,5 Ghz; Nvidia 7300 GS) and after installing graphical drivers (proprietary) I can't load the system. All I have is a progress bar of user's profile loading and playing the startup sound. I already installed openSUSE 11.4 x86_64 version on this computer and there was no problem with drivers.
I have just installed Ubuntu, now when logging into my laptop i am able to sucsessfully load ubuntu but i am unable to load the original OS (windows 7).
The grub 1.9 bootloader gives me the option
When selecting this option it goes to a black screen with a - in the top left of the screen then the grub screen re-appears
This is my first attempt with Yum and Fedora for that matter. I need to load a print driver and network driver for an MX860 printer. I downloaded the drivers and they are in the download folder. When I try to install I get what is below. How do I resolve? Do I need to identify where the driver is? If so, how?

I am unable to load Ubuntu onto computer as dual boot or inside windows. Thus scanned the CD and found it has 23 errors.Are these files suppose to be on the CD?casper, .disk, install, install, isolinux, pics, pool, pressed, autorun, md5sum.
I have just run a fresh install of Kubuntu on an old PC to try it out for a few weeks. The Boot CD works fine and there is a GUI for the install. It seems to detect all the devices without a hitch. But when the PC reboots it boots into command line. When I try to run startx it gives me "AddScreen/ScreenInit failed for driver 0"I looked up the x.org website and in the FAQ Here it says "This kind of problem typically occurs when you're using a big monitor with an old graphics card. You can solve it by deleting some of the highest resolutions of the deepest colour mode in the Screen section of your xorg.conf, or even the whole last Display subsection."I am using an old pc with old graphics card with a 25inch HP LP2465 monitor. in my /etc/X11 there is only a xorg.cof.failsafe file. anyone any ideas on how to do this. I am having problems with sky2 (eth0 driver) periodically disconnecting since in upgraded to 11.04 so i loaded the sk98lin driver (from the Marvell site) and it worked well (sk98lin was the loaded driver in the net config info dialog) until i had to do a reboot and when it came back up i was on sky2 again. I did the install option of the driver installation and it showed sk98lin as the installed driver when i checked the config info prior to the reboot. Now when i try to reinstall it i get the following results and sky2 is listed as the driver rather than sk98lin.

Is the "installation" option the correct way to do the driver install or do I have to use the "patch" option for it to be permanent?
i have installed ubuntu on my toshiba satellite-L640 and i m facing some problem 1. unable to activate broadband STA wireless driver by additional driver option.. 2. unable to activate ATI/AMD propreitary FGLRX graphics driver by additional driver option.. 3.my laptop doesnt show battery indication that how much charge is left 4.headphone not working 5.sound of vedios and song is very less in ubuntu then windows..
I recently reinstalled Debian on my desktop to migrate to 64-bit. Everything was working swimmingly before but I've encountered a bizarre error i have never seen before. After installing the Nvidia driver and rebooting when X comes up it complains it cant find any screens. However, if I kill X and start it again it starts with no issues. I also have an odd message at startup which might be part of the problem as well.I'm running Debian Testing AMD64 with and Nvidia 9800 GTX+. I compiled 2.6.27.8 for the install.
For what its worth the Nvidia module is showing up for lsmod so I don't really know what is wrong. I have tried reinstalling the nvidia driver as well which didn't help. The error message during bootup is:
I have been unable to find a driver for my nvidia geforce2 mx400. It's running in failsafe graphics mode. Does anyone know what I need to do to make it work? I'm a linux beginner, so please avoid jargon.
I was recently able to obtain a new laptop at work. Rather than reinstalling the OS, reconfiguring all of the software, and then copying over all of my data from my old laptop -- I decided to try to use dd to clone my drive. It worked pretty darn well (thanks Saikee!). However, I have two problems that I have noticed so far:
1) The system does not seem to offer me the option to install the proprietary nvidia driver. I was able to manually install the nvidia-glx-180 package and then edit xorg.conf appropriately and I'm running with the nvidia driver now. So this problem is resolved (though I still find it odd it didn't even offer my the "restricted hardware drivers" option in System -> Administration).
2) Wireless is not working. I checked dmesg and it doesn't seem to have any errors in it. Here is a list of things I have checked/found which I think might be relevant:
- Oddly enough it seems that my wired device always gets renamed from eth0 to eth1, and my wireless device gets renamed from wlan0 to wlan1. I'm not sure why (though I would prefer them to be eth0 and wlan0).
- dmesg output looks good shows some message about the wlan1 link not being ready

I am a new user of Fedora 11. I am a Ubuntu user and could not get my GeForce 9100 on board graphics to work on my new computer with out crashing my computer so I decided I would try fedora. I downloaded the driver from NVidia and I am attempting to install it (Fedora didn't automatically find the driver). I get the following message: "Error Unable to find the system utility 'ld'; Please make sure you have the 'binutils' installed. If you do have the bin utils installed, then please check that 'ld' is in your PATH." I am running the driver from $Download as root. I don't know what ld or bin utils is or the check if I have it or if it is in my PATH.
im trying to get compiz to work but i cant even get nvidia graphics to load ive tried everything this is for a m11x alienware computer running ubuntu 64 bit drivers are installed but wont work
i'm using lucid lynx. it is a dual boot machine, vista and lucid lynx. i have switchable graphics (at least it is available in windows), intel and ati. ubuntu was working fine but then a pop up showed up asking if i want to install ati drivers. the pop up "said" that drivers were proprietary yet tested on linux systems. i decided to install them. i was asked to reboot after installation which i did. now every time i select ubuntu in the grub the system loads but then it suddenly stops and i get a blank screen.
