May 11, 2010I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 in South Africa and I am using a Neotel telephone device that connects with EVDO. I have followed instructions to get it working by typing: sudo modprobe usbserial vendor=0x1d09 product=0x4000.
I have also put it in /etc/init.d/rc.local to get it to load up on startup. This works and I am able to connect using the network manager. The problem is if I disconnect and then try to connect again later, it refuses to connect till I reboot and then it works, till I disconnect again.

Apr 5, 2010i have loaded ubuntu 9.10 few days back. I am having problem in configuring my BSNL EVDO CDMA2000 modem(Micromax MMX 300c). Guided by some of the threads, i have followed the below mentioned steps..

Ubuntu :: BSNL EVDO Stopped Working In 10.04?
Jul 24, 2010I have ZTE's 8700 800M EV-DO modem provided by BSNL. It worked like charm on my uBuntu 10.04 LTS. I simply used it through 'mobile broadband' connection in uBuntu. However, few days ago, I had connection problems and technicians from BSNL resolved it. The connection works just fine in Windows 7, but now it does not work in uBuntu.
Now the dialer simply tries to connect and gives up after some time. I've even tried downloading the ZTE's dialer from the official site, but it does not work (connects, but does not work; shows 0kbps all the time).
What is the recommended way of fixing this? If more information is needed, let me know. I just love to surf the net through uBuntu.

Sep 6, 2010I am planning to shift from ubuntu to fedora and i am using Data card for getting connected to internet. My data card is working fine with Ubuntu 10.04.
I have been using usbmodeswitch to make the device to be reconized as a modem rather that a storage devices in ubuntu 10.04. i have followed this link : [url] and it worked fine now when i repeated the same for fedora 13 it doesn't works.
I have installed tcl-8.5.8-1.fc13.i686.rpm , usb_modeswitch-1.1.4-1.fc13.i686 , usb_modeswitch-data-20100707-1.fc13.noarch and wvdial. in fedora 13 it never detected as a modem. i have also tryed using # modprobe usbserial vendor=0x1c9e product=0x9e00 also but this never helped.

May 11, 2010I started using linux ubuntu version9.04 2 days ago...And I am facing difficulties in configuring or using my bsnl ZTE CDMA 2000 IX EV-DO wireless data terminal in ubuntu... I can't install gnome-ppp on my system... installing it in offline mode. Also,I tried the following commands:
$ sudo aptitude update
$ sudo aptitude install wvdial gnome-ppp
# lsusb
#modprobe usbserial vendor=0x19d2 product=0xfffe $ sudo nano -w /etc/wvdial.conf
I made the following changes in my wvdial.conf file,

I would like to use it as a server on an old 386 PC.For the internet connexion (ADSL) i use a Speedtouch USB modem.When i list the peripheral installed on the system, i see the modem with apparently a driver, but the device is listed as non classified. For me it should be directed to DSL0 but..According to some tuto i declared a DSL connection, ppp with ATM (VPI8 and VCI35).I launch the connection with pinternet but the connection failed.

Feb 16, 2010A client has sent me an RHEL 5.1 box for me to do some work on, but it's not registered with Red Hat. This is causing me problems, because it's a minimal installation, and I need some more dev software.My immediate reaction was to install various bits (emacs, and so on) from my Centos 5(.0) DVD.The base RHEL system only had one (disabled) repo entry,so I added a yum DVD repo entry in yum.conf.d.
This looked good to start with, but it doesn't work. Something in RHEL's pirut/yum/rpm/whatever is getting confused, and can't work out what is/isn't installed.
Question - how do you maintain an unregistered RHEL box? Has RH done something to make life difficult? Is my problem simply that I'm using a Centos 5.0 DVD, instead of Centos 5.1? Am I stuck with downloading lots of rpms from the net and doing everything manually? I really don't want to do that.

I have Debian with Kernel 2.6.32-5-686 I just want to send sms through this modem. It's not recognized as modem I'm frustrated because it's not useful for me if it doesn't work on Linux I looked for info but I can't make it work. What I get in my debian is:

Jan 11, 2010I have two systems connected by local network 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.2 both installed RHEL
I have congigured nfs and httpd and /mnt/package contains the rhel dvd contents extracted. Also the iso image of rhel from the other system (192.168.0.2), I can mount the share from 192.168.0.1. i.e NFS network is ok in 192.168.0.1
But when I tries to install rhel from 192.168.0.2 It shows the message that that directory cannot be mounted. selinux is permissive in 192.168.0.1. The problem when it asks for network ipno.Is it required to run dhcp server on 192.168.0.1? I have tried another way also - by http created a link to /mnt/package in /var/www/html
But when I tries to install through http://192.168.0.1/package ( from http://192.168.0.1 also - experimented all combinations) - it automatically switches to CD install.
