i have this hp proliant server and this morning everything was OK until the server restarted.then the server fail to boot because logical drives disabled so i change to second controller and it works but when i try to type df -h the drive is being displayed as /dev/ccsls/c0 and i unable to access to /dev/ccsls/c0 and i got folder not found error. Using ubuntu 7.10 for ERP server.

I like the server login information that gets displayed when you login to a 10.04 server. It lists disk usage, CPU usage, Temperature etc...
Unfortunately I had problems installing 10.04 from a USB. At the end of the process the master boot record was stored on the USB and not the hard disk.
But now when I login to my server I don't get the server information.

The software: Ubuntu Server Edition 9.10.The wetware: A programmer doing his best (read: ignorant, shitty) as an ad-h.When I plug the USB thumb drive in, the install OS gives it a drive letter -- /dev/sdb -- and it pushes the original /dev/sdb down to /dev/sdc. The installation works without a hitch, and GRUB2 installs, dutifully pointing the root at /dev/sdc1 instead of /dev/sdb1.I let GRUB2 start normally ("drive not found"), holding the <shift> key to get to the "rescue>" prompt.From there, I issue "ls" to discover that GRUB can NOT see /dev/sdb, and I can tell that because what is showing up as (hd1) does NOT have three partitions as it should.GRUB2 sees a total of 16 drives, not 26, and one of the drives it sees is "fd0" (there is no floppy drive).Issuing commands like "set prefix=(hdx,y)" and "root=(hdx,y)" have no effect as, I think it's just pointing to the (reiserfs)content drives and this GRUB2 tells me "unknown filesystem".I did try them all in vain, hoping that maybe I'd find a kernel somewhere.I used the "rescue" mode of the Ubuntu installer (the USB thumb drive) to get to a root prompt.From there, I mounted /dev/sdc2 (the "shifted" /dev/sdb2) onto /mnt, I mounted /dev/sdc1 (the "shifted" /dev/sdb1) onto /mnt/boot,and then I chroot'ed to /mnt.I edited /boot/grub/grub.cfg, editing every instance of "root=(hd2,1)" to the appropriate UUID for the "real" /dev/sdb1. We originally had this server functioning by putting / and /boot on the SS SanDisk, which caused no problems during installation because /dev/sda doesn't get shifted.We then figured it was a good idea to put our OS files on something with failover capability. And that started us down this crappy "shifting drive letter" path.Can I control which drive letter the USB thumb drive gets assigned during the install process?If I could make it be /dev/sdc then I wouldn't be facing this problem.An alternate solution would be to know the cryptic GRUB2 commands that I can issue from the command prompt post-install, pre-reboot.But I'm wondering if that will ultimately work at all considering that GRUB2 couldn't see /dev/sdb at all.
My Pug Server has worked faithfully for many years just sitting in a closet. It is designed wo that you never need to add a monitor or keyboard as it is administered through a web interface. Recently it had a problem with the motherboard and I had to replace it, but the machine is now working. However, it no longer is visible as a network drive on my Windows machine.Unfortunately I have no idea where to start looking to see what the problem is. I did attach a keyboard and monitor and logged on, but everything looks okay (I can see my files, etc.).
This is an old machine (c. 2003), so has an old version of Linux (I have no idea what version, or even how to find out). Since it is never meant to be used directly it doesn't have any GUI installed, so I have to do everything using command line.Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can even start to determine what the problem is or how I can go about trying to fix it? At this point I would be happy just to get the files out and replace it with a newer NAS.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI currently have a centos 4.4 I believe running with a 250GB hard drive. I want to make an image of that hard drive. I have tried removing the drive and connecting it to my windows pc using an adapter that would allow my windows machine run the hard drive as it was a regular external hard drive. Of course windows doesn't reconize that drive since it is linux partitioned. I am thinking that I need to have the hard drive inthe box I am wanting to copy and put in a blank drive in the box that I want to copy to. And boot from a live CD and use cat or dd to copy it. I have seen the commands before bust I am thinking this is the only way. Basically I am wanting to have a duplicate of the drive and build a whole new server that is already all setup.I will just change the host name and assign it another Public facing UP. Is this correct? Oh, and the new server will have different hardware. Might even be AMD or intel different from source or destination.

It detects my wireless card with a RT61 chipset and gives me the option to select a wireless network through the network-manager icon in the upper panel, yet no wireless networks are displayed. So, how do I fix this and get the ability to connect to my network? I have tried connecting manually but it refuses to connect. No errors, it just does nothing and reverts to roaming mode.
I believe the exact model of my card is an Edimax EW 7128G.
I have installed Fedora 12 in my dell studio 15 with screen 15.6 The images are not displayed properly, some times they displayed some wider than their actual size. Is there any video and display driver available for Fedora 12 which can improve its display quality.

See: [URL] The problem: Fedora 13 dosen't report the correct CPU speed of my Overclocked E2180. The correct speed, seen by Windows and openSolaris is 3.1Ghz. However, Fedora 13 (final) still dose not report it correctly.
However, today I downloaded linpack from here: [URL] and Linpack correctly state my CPU speed as 3.1Ghz: Btw, I have the pata_acpi module installed if that helps. I could not edit (even as root) the file at /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_setspeed. Even cpuid/cpuinfo and the GNOME CPU Frequency Scaling Monitor 2.30.0 reports the speed as 2Ghz.
There is a weird thing happening with my FC14 installation. When I log in, I have no icons displayed on the desktop, although I may (and I do) really have them there. I recently changed from Ubuntu 10.10 to Fedora 15, I haven't chosen to make them dual boot because I liked Gnome 3 that much. But I installed them on my second hard disk because then I can move my documents to this OS.But when I go to the Ubuntu files I get this message:The folder contents could not be displayed. You do not have the permissions necessary to view the contents.mage:So now I can't access my documents anymore... Does somebody know how I can move them to Fedora?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an 80GB Intel X25-M SSD drive installed on a Linux box running Debian 5.0. The file system on the SSD is ext4. I've had no problems with the drive, and have been using it for quite some time as both swap file storage as well as a place to store a few large database files which require random access.
However, I noticed this odd size readout from ls:

total 34G
-rwx------ 1 root root 23G 2010-12-11 18:00 file1.dat
-rwx------ 1 root root 22G 2010-12-11 18:00 file2.dat
I changed the names of the files here for security reasons, but other than that this is exactly what ls has output. Obviously, the total size readout is incorrect.
Here is the corresponding output from df

Despite this incorrect readout, the drive seems to be working fine, and diagnostic utilities turned up nothing wrong with the drive. Is this some sort of known bug in ext4, or is it more likely there's something physically wrong with the drive?
I made a clean install of 10.10 on an oldish desktop someone gave me. But after the first update, I can not login to the desktop environment.e login screen shows no user accounts, but other than that appears normal (purple background, ubuntu logo in white box mid-screen, and the options to shutdown, etc on the bottom bar). The mouse works, however the pc will not shut down nor restart from the on-screen commands.

I still cannot get localhost/ampache to display in my browser. I can't even get localhost to display in my browser. I've tried checking around in config files to see if i have ports open for listening. (i'm a noob at all of this)
My router has the port open that i specified. on code - service apache2 start i get:
(..Address already in use: make_sock: could not bind to address 192.168.1.65:8000
no listening sockets available, shutting down
I can't find any other config files. I don't know what else to do with the amapche installation. (which included an install of mysql-server package, even tho i NEVER got a prompt to enter in root passwd for the mysql db.)

Is there a way to get Linux to log all of the output that you see on the screen at boot?
It would sure beat having to dig through all of the different log files trying to find what was seen while it was booting.
I had a dual boot system with ubuntu and windows running fine, while using ububtu grub loader.
Now i installed red hat on the same computer and mentioned to install grub in the first boot partition sector.
Now while starting the the computer i see only the previous options to boot into eithre windows or ubuntu.
I dont see any option for red hat.

If i launch it from a console, the output is: "Illegal instruction". I solved this problem with a rebuild of package with the Pat's SlackBuild without any modification.

Debian won't display Japanese characters properly, it shows them as symbols. Is there a language pack or a particular browser plugin I need to install? It's sort of a noobish question, but I looked for something related to this issue in my Package Manager, and didn't find anything that seemed suitable/related.
