I'm atomix600. I'm a Slackware user and i'm a new user on this forum. I have a problem with XaoS on Slackware 13.37 When i run XaoS, window isn't displayed. If i launch it from a console, the output is: "Illegal instruction". I solved this problem with a rebuild of package with the Pat's SlackBuild without any modification.

i'm not able to play music at all. videos videos seem to crash my browser and using either rhythmbox or banshee they crash too.i ran rhythmbox by typing sudo rhythmbox and tried to play a file and it displayed a pop-up window saying that my autioaudiosink element is missing and the terminal displayed this:

Iam facing a weird problem with ubuntu since last week... Starting system-->selecting ubuntu from grub menu-->ubuntu splash screen comes and it loads fully-->black screen is displayed instead of login window.. Restarting the system and the prob is gone..able to login properly..
This problem is ocurring randomly..sometimes i can login in 1st attempt properly,other times i have to restart the system twice or even thrice to get to the login screen.. what can be the possible reason to this...I have not done any updates also..

I've had this show on 2 different current PCs. Kernels 2.6.35.10 and 2.6.35.7. This is with an Atheros AR8121/AR8113/AR8114, and Realtek RTL8111/8168B.
Started slackpkg upgrade-up and went to bed. Woke up to find the power had gone out during the night. The computer booted up, but displayed a message that said something to the effect of, "Error occurred during root file system check. You will be given the option of doing maintenance......"I can get to a command prompt, but regardless of what I do a message pops saying it can't find libblkid.so.1

The interface "eth0", which is down, was not displayed, but loopback interface has been displayed. So, how can I make my application display all interfaces, including the interfaces which are down, but excluding the loopback interface?
Is there anyone out there that doesn't use a window manager like KDE/Fluxbox/etc.? What do you do without a graphical interface? I remember my days in DOS and how horrible that was. I know many people still love that and probably don't use a window manager.but how do you do things without it? How, and what, do you do in a command line world?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been using the vbatts KDE 4.3.1 packages with my Slackware64 13.0 installation. In general I like it, but there is a major problem with the window titlebars repainting. In Firefox it will usually show the previous page I visited instead of the current one. The text can also get mangled if I use one of the drop-down menus, particularly the bookmarks. It isn't just a Firefox thing; it happens with every app I use. It's just that many apps don't change the titlebar that much. Is this a KDE, X, or NVIDIA driver problem? A Google search seemed to indicate that it was an issue with X itself, but the info I found wasn't very clear.
View 2 Replies View RelatedHas anyone noticed this bug in KDE 4.5? It started for me with the official 4.5.1 packages in -current, and is now continuing with Alien Bob's 4.5.2 packages. I don't think it happened with previous 4.5.0 builds I was using.
1) Right-click title bar, select "Configure Window Behavior"
2) the "Desktop Effects" option is selected by default, but displays the "Window Decorations" screen instead.
3) Clicking on another option on the left will show appropriate screen.
4) Finally clicking on "Desktop Effects" will show the proper screen to configure effects.

I want to know which packages from "x" set (slack 13,.1) have to be installed for X server to work. Requirements are really minimalistic. Only English language, no X development, no hardware acceleration, etc.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having trouble starting non-kde window managers. From the start-up command line, I get an error message about the XServer when typing "fluxbox" in as a command. However, when I put fluxbox in as a command in konsole, it gives an error message (which makes sense because I was using kde). I also can't start xfce as it is not a recognized command.
View 8 Replies View RelatedWhen starting Xfce, there's a ~50% chance that the theme (no matter which one) doesn't work properly and all the window frames are black. Sometimes it does work, but I can't reproduce either - it's random.
I've had this problem before on 13.1 and somehow managed to make it disappear (I switched from KDE and blamed it on me not getting all the settings right immediately). However, after installing 13.37 and starting with a clean homedir, it happens more often that it did on 13.1 and I just can't get rid of it.
PS: The whole Slackware / X11 / Xfce setup is fairly generic, but I do use the binary Nvidia driver from SBo and I have two TFTs configured as separate X11 screens.
I installed slack 13.37 (haven't used KDE since 2003) and I can't find where to change the look of the window manager itself. I can see the color themes and the "style" settings but no window decoration settings. Am I missing something? See attached png for System Style settings...

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have Firefox 3.6 installed on slackware64-current and everything works correctly.However when I use Firefox 3.6 on slackware-current (32bit) and I do Edit -> Preferences, the window is opened but the content does not display. If I click the close button, Firefox terminates, but I can no longer get the focus onto another window and I have to restart X with Ctrl-Alt-backspace.(The same thing happens when I try to logout of LQ!). I have tried reinstalling Firefox 3.6 and jre to no avail. I have tried removing my ~/.mozilla/firefox to build a new profile. The same problem also occurs as root. I have reverted to Firefox 3.5.7 and all is OK.

But just Today... first for what ever reason my wifi stopped to work (at boot time) even though interface was up as usual, driver was loaded, supplicant has not been touched etc. So I wired up a LAN cable and the at boot time I saw an information from eth0 that packet length is 0 and cannot be parsed (great no network at all). Tried to investigate the problem on a different machine, and one of the suggestions I've found was to set router to no security and see if wireless will connect. I thought that it would be a good idea to reboot the machine to attach to the rooter at boot time and no eth0,wlan1 tries to connect to the network and then I get a black screen instead of login window

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm running Slackware 12.2 with wmii-3.9.2 as my window manager. My problem is that after startx wmii sometimes becomes unresponsive i.e., can't open xterm or any other program or even quit. have to use Ctrl+Alt+BkSpc.
"$ cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep (EE)" returns nothing. Though after quitting X I often see XIO error 11 (resource temporarily unavailable) but I don't know if this was caused by killing X. Graphics card is nVidia ION. I'm using the latest and recommended driver from [URL](260.19.12). //for xorg.conf see at the bottom
It doesn't seem to be a hardware issue as all the hardware is working properly (dmesg reports nothing suspicious). /var/log/messages reports nothing unusual (except for some acpid messages but that's probably another story).
I suspect it's something to do with my xorg.conf and/or the DISPLAY variable and/or wmii (because Xfce4 does not freeze). echo $DISPLAY returns :0.0 but this value is set by startx/xinit anyway. So I'm lost at this point.

I've been using Slackware for about five years but I've never been bothered about compiz so it's all a bit new to me. Since I installed Slackware 13 (64bit) yesterday I noticed that compiz is one of the pre-installed packages so I thought I'd give it a blast.
I should probably have done a bit more research but I read on a forum that running "compiz --replace" will replace the default window manager with compiz so I gave it a try. The problem is that now none of my windows have borders so I can't move them or do anything. The worst part about the whole affair is that I can't even figure out how to revert to whatever the old window manager was.
EDIT : Just thought I'd add that I'm using XFCE.
EDIT++ : I've managed to revert the window manager by deleting my .cache directory. XFCE obviously maintainted the apps that were running and one of them was compiz. Now just to figure out how I can get compiz working. I presume emerald is the key...
I've tried KDE, XFCE & fluxbox (this latter of which I think I prefer). They all work but they all have similar streaks & distortions on the GUI. Is this certainly a driver issue?
Also, after using them for a while they freeze.
In an earlier thread dc_eros suggested installing the latest openchrome, which fixed a similar problem he had with his first slack13.
I often swapped window managers between fluxbox kde and gnome back when I ran ubuntu to suit my needs. When I installed slackware, I picked KDE because of the convenient app suite. I don't wish to uninstall kde but I'd like to be able to pick which environment I use when I swap to a GUI. Something like a flag, startx --fluxbox.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThe intent is to use Mplayer without X or any other window manager/GUI to watch movies on TV. A simple 'mplayer movie.avi' command works fine, except that it locks out the keyboard and mouse. We're using the latest mplayer and slack 13.0 with the 2.6.29.6 kernel. Using mplayer under X presents no problems, but the use of anything but the console is NOT possible now. The whole problem is figuring out what to do to regain control of the keyboard.
