I have upgraded (clean install) from Ubuntu 9.10 to Ubuntu 10.10.because 9.10 is no longer supported.My problem is ie subject that is to say when i receive embedded pictures on an e-mail I cannot see them, even when I select to load images they do not load, something that it did not happened with Ubuntu 9.10
View 2 RepliesI have installed Fedora 12 in my dell studio 15 with screen 15.6 The images are not displayed properly, some times they displayed some wider than their actual size. Is there any video and display driver available for Fedora 12 which can improve its display quality.

I can only access the Transmission web interface while the Transmission-gtk client is running. When I close it, the web interface is no longer available. I try to manually start the transmission-daemon, but the process never shows up as running.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am running Linux from a DVD, not installed. I am not good with installing software, but since the DVD cannot be corrupted, I am content to operate this way. Lately, I have been having problems that previously did not occur. When I try to click on the checkbox to get rid of emails, it doesn't register in most cases, or when it does, I am clicking multiple times so it registers twice, meaning it is unchecked again. Even more frustrating is some issues that are affecting my ability to update my business. I am trying to modify spreadsheets (text not calculations).
Whenever I try to click & drag to select something to change, it keeps jumping around to select only some of what I want, something else or some combination of the 2. When I try to copy and paste several fields from 1 column to another, everything from the several fields in the source column ends up together in the last field in the target column. I am also trying to download some images from a website. There is a single column of links to the images. I have to click on the link to get to the image in order to copy it, then back out to continue looking for more links to do the same.
My computer keeps jumping back 2 steps, then forward 2 steps, and sometimes I lose my place in that list. I could deal with it if it were a small number of links, but this is a list of probably close to 20,000 links. Again, i am operating off of a live DVD so this should not be corruptible, but this has just started happening, and has been an issue the last several sessions.
using the update maneger to update on ubuntu new linux images available 2.6.31-17 generic and after the download is complete both images exist in the grub menu should i remove them ? or just remove them from the boot menu ? and if so how could i do each.

The problem with this is that each image is then stretched to fit on one page, whereas I would like to keep the original dimensions of the images and put as many as possible on one page in the PDF file before moving on to another page.

I am just spent half an hour hunting for a thing that should be totally available already:USB install images of Ubuntu, knoppix and all the others.And, the only good way are so far complicated tutorials where you extract the stuff from an CD image. Why??Hasn't everybody notices that CDs/DVDs are vanishing big time? That more and more systems don't have the readers anymore? Instead of following a 10 point instruction list, it would be nice to just be able to download a Ubuntu 8.10 or whatever USB image and be able to beam that DIRECTLY to a USB stick with a dd command.
Or am a missing something here? Does this exist?It should by no means be mariginal, considering how important USB stick in specific and flash memory in general have become.
I want to start off by saying I'm very new to Ubuntu. I have been using Ubuntu for about a week now and have not looked back!! Now on to my issue. I have been tying to update Transmission 1.75(9117) to the lasted version (transmission-1.92) but i can't seem to get the Synaptic Package Manager to find it. I have downloaded transmission-1.92 and extracted it on to the desktop but Synaptic Package Manager still can't find it.

View 7 Replies View RelatedTwo years ago I setup a small ARM based home server running Debian 7, the system ran an automated sftp backup from my phone, a transmission server and a VPN (open vpn).So anyway I upgraded my home PC and also upgraded the ARM home server to a GB-BXBT-1900 as I wanted to run some VM's.My only issue is that I have been unable to get transmission working the way i want it... For example I run my OS from a USB3 32GB sandisk drive, I then have a 500GB 2.5 laptop hard drive to store my VM's and transmission files, the VM's run perfectly fine when directed to read and write to the sata drive but no matter what I do I am unable to change the default transmission download directory.The moment i do this the download will start, hit around 4MB then pause.Amended chmod and chown on the directory ie /mnt/500/Downloads, also usermod -a -G debian-transmission myuser but nothing I do seems to work, if i leave it all to its default directorys on the USB drive it works but i just cant get this to work on the mounted drive.

So, I employed the update. Problem is, I do not see this as an installed application. TRANSMISSION is not listed in any submenu under the Applications menu OR Add/Remove.
Iam always downloading files using transmission bittorrent, the problem is my sister always keep pausing my all my downloads because it somehow slows her internet speed in her rooms computer, any way I can have a password prompted every time she pauses all my downloads in transmission?

When I try to open Transmission I get a message: "Couldn't open "/home/shai/.config/transmission/lock": Permission denied", and the only way to open it is by using gksudo.
I read on another thread that I need to delete that file, but the file doesn't exist.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've installed many different versions on Ubuntu, many different times and I've never had a problem with transmission... untill now. I just did a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.04 ( I was already previously using 10.04) and I updated and set up transmission but when I tested the port it said it was closed. This has never happened before.
I tried changing the port about 15 times but it says they are all closed. So I tried opening one..

... but still nothing. I have no firewall running and everything else works fine. Transmission was working before, on the same ports, same version of transmission, and same version of Ubuntu. Nothing has changed.
UPDATE: Actually it's version 2.04 not 2.0, guess the site i followed was a little dated.
so i was a little hasty in upgrading Tranmission to version 2.0 and after a while i noticed that the new version is really slow especially for public torrents my question is; is it possible to downgrade to version 1.93?
i followed these command to install the new version.

I am using ubuntu netbook edition 10.04 on acer aspire one. My wireless is working perfectly when I am surfing the net or downloading ..... videos however when I use transmission (bit torrent) it will download for awhile then my wireless will not work and yet it shows that it is connected...then I have to reconnect again then the torrent starts downloading for awhile usually 1-2 mins then the wireless will fail again.
An interesting point to note: When I connect the ethernet cable to my netbook, bit torrent download perfectly it only happens when i'm using wireless. It is annoying how I have to physically connect my netbook to the modem to download bit torrent files.
