See: [URL] The problem: Fedora 13 dosen't report the correct CPU speed of my Overclocked E2180. The correct speed, seen by Windows and openSolaris is 3.1Ghz. However, Fedora 13 (final) still dose not report it correctly.
However, today I downloaded linpack from here: [URL] and Linpack correctly state my CPU speed as 3.1Ghz: Btw, I have the pata_acpi module installed if that helps. I could not edit (even as root) the file at /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_setspeed. Even cpuid/cpuinfo and the GNOME CPU Frequency Scaling Monitor 2.30.0 reports the speed as 2Ghz.
i'm not able to play music at all. videos videos seem to crash my browser and using either rhythmbox or banshee they crash too.i ran rhythmbox by typing sudo rhythmbox and tried to play a file and it displayed a pop-up window saying that my autioaudiosink element is missing and the terminal displayed this:
code: (rhythmbox:8415): rhythmbox-warning **: unable to grab media player keys: could not get owner of name 'org.gnome.settingsdaemon': no such name warning: unhandled message: interface=org.freedesktop.dbus.introspectable, path=/, member=introspect
I have installed Fedora 12 in my dell studio 15 with screen 15.6 The images are not displayed properly, some times they displayed some wider than their actual size. Is there any video and display driver available for Fedora 12 which can improve its display quality.
or
Is there any more display settings present which can solve my problem.
There is a weird thing happening with my FC14 installation. When I log in, I have no icons displayed on the desktop, although I may (and I do) really have them there. One other thing: There is also no "right click" on the desktop. This is solved by opening a folder (which means launching nautilus?), but that's awful and I would like to solve it. ;-)Some information on the system:
I recently changed from Ubuntu 10.10 to Fedora 15, I haven't chosen to make them dual boot because I liked Gnome 3 that much. But I installed them on my second hard disk because then I can move my documents to this OS.But when I go to the Ubuntu files I get this message:The folder contents could not be displayed. You do not have the permissions necessary to view the contents.mage:So now I can't access my documents anymore... Does somebody know how I can move them to Fedora?
So I ran a software in both KDE and Gnome respectively and it seems both of them have separate displays. By that I mean, one is displaying a part of the string(a Label) and the other is not displaying the string at all. I will include some relevant information such as the software uses SWT kit. Also the string is displayed perfect in Windows. If it's still not clear I will sum it up in a sentence. I am trying to display a label using SWT kit and, its being displayed correctly on Windows, partially correct on KDE(Half of the string) and not displayed on Gnome.
I have tried GridDat.grabExcessHorizontalSpace=true, but it didn't. how to approach the problem otherwise?
The following are the output of command "ifconfig -a":

The interface "eth0", which is down, was not displayed, but loopback interface has been displayed. So, how can I make my application display all interfaces, including the interfaces which are down, but excluding the loopback interface?
I don't know how I've managed to mess this one up, but in the midst of securing my webserver (ie. changing default SSH port, add new user, disable root SSH) I seem to have broken su functionality....somehow.
When I ssh as my user "lockdown" I attempt to "su -" and immediately am prompted with "su: incorrect password"
Code: lockdown[ at ]bag [~]# su su: incorrect password lockdown[ at ]bag [~]#
I re-enabled root SSH login (via editing /etc/ssh/sshd_config) and I'm able to SSH as root no problem, however I can't su even from root to another user, getting the same behavior and error message..
Code: root[ at ]bag [~]# su lockdown su: incorrect password root[ at ]bag [~]# Here are my permissions for /bin/su ... Code: root[ at ]bag [/]# ls -l /bin/su -rwSr-xr-- 1 root wheel 28336 Feb 28 2010 /bin/su* My user "lockdown" is a member of the wheel group, and I haven't edit /etc/pam.d/su or system-auth at all.
Recently I installed FC 11 on my laptop. The OS is not displaying the battery status correctly in the notification area. if I remove the power cord after 100 % charging, the status remains the same even during discharging. It never informs me the correct discharge status or any warning when the battery power is critically low. This is causing unexpected shut downs and data loss to me. Is this a bug ? Do we have a solution for this. My laptop is Compaq CQ40-327TU; dual boot with Vista as alternate OS.
Got Ubuntu 10.10 amd64 installed.. I've been using Fedora 13 64bit for some time now dual boot with WinXP.. Ubuntu installation to a free Hard drive went well till i rebooted, my Fedora installation was gone , and i thought Ubuntu is much installer friendly than fedora.
I've been using checkgmail package on my f10 (x86_64) box for a while now without problems. But all of a sudden, I see a pop-up windowtating: incorrect username or password. No matter how many times I enter my usernamend password the window keeps coming back demanding for the same. My system is up to date and I've rebooted my system a few times, but the problem persists.
Document viewer 2.30.1 in fedora 13 does not print pdfs properly. Xpdf is working. I printed the same pdf with document viewer 2.28.2 in fedora 12 without any problems.
today i got this message everytime i try to login to yahoo messenger:"gyachi invalid user or incorrect password !" The user and password are corect, if i switch to kopete or pidgin is all right.Only with gyachi i have that problem. Using Fedora 10, gyachi improved v1.2.3
I'm new to linux, been using fedora 12 for about a week. I just noticed a problem with my keyboard layout. When i press the key with the backslash and pipe character, i get < for backslash and > for the pipe character. I have tried the following to fix the problem:
1.$ gnome-keyboard-properties then selected the proper keyboard model (Asus Laptop) tried adding different keyboard layouts and setting them as default nothing i did there made any difference.I am currently using USA, i have tried Canada English, USA international, and more I noticed that even when i change it to something like Afganistan, there is no noticable different when i type in the test area. I notice that there are keyboard layouts that have < and > where the backslash and pipe character should be, but the picture for USA shows the pipe and backslash where they should be.
I'm using Fedora 12 KDE, and I'm trying to connect a Lexmark printer. It's a printer that I can connect to in other KDE distros. When I try to connect to it through the system settings printer manager I get a popup window that says, "Password may be incorrect", and then it goes to the new printer window. However, there is no option for a lexmark printer, lpd, ipp, or anything in the left menu bar. There's only an option for other, and a little box that asks for the uri. Am I missing a package, or is this normal behavior? Do I have to somehow open this up in sudo? Am I missing a package? I have cups, foomatic, and ghostscript installed.
If I boot my system with default BIOS settings (no overclocking), the CPU runs at 3.3GHz and powernow-k8 enables a maximum speed of 3.3GHz, as can be seen from the following:
[Code]....
Clearly, for some reason, powernow-k8 is mis-calculating the pstate 0 or maximum speed and this is reflected in the files within /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu?/cpufreq/ I have tried to update /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_max_freq, however despite the file being writeable by root, the change is not maintained. Other than setting the CPU policy to "Performance" rather than "On Demand", is there any way I can force the correct pstate 0 (maximum) CPU speed?
I am running the Aurora browser (Firefox 7.0a2) and the theme looks very wrong. It looks kinda like the Windows classic theme. Using the Firefox in the Fedora repos has the proper appearance. For that reason, I figured it was just the Aurora builds with a bug. I just downloaded Firefox 5.0.1 from the website, and that has the exact same issue as Aurora. On my main PC which runs Ubuntu + Firefox nightlies, there's no such issue. Selecting the "Default" theme does nothing because it is apparently already in use.
I'm using F15 with two nics, each on different subnets 192.168.1.0/25 and 192.168.1.128/25. My issue is that on boot my 192.168.1.2/25 interface sets a broadcast address of 192.168.1.255 which is incorrect I believe. Its broadcast should be 192.168.1.127. I've tried setting the broadcast param in ifcfg-p3p1 file "BROADCAST=192.168.1.127" with no benefit.I can change this after boot of course, but that removes my default gateway for some reason.
When ever i try to login to my ftp server(linux, fedora) through filezilla or cuteftp then its giving error even if login details are correct. Its are working fine locally but remotelly its giving error when ever i try to connect to it using external ipaddres or domainname. the error is as follows Status:
Connected with [URL]. Waiting for welcome message... Status:Connecting to host1.domain.com ... Response:220 (vsFTPd 2.0.5) Command:USER test
But if i try to connect to ftp server via brower(internet explorer or mozilla). ITs working fine.I dont know what is the reson behind this. few days back it was working fine through filezilla or cuteftp. proxy setting are also fine. its the same which i was using few days back.

I have random crashes since I upgraded from Fedora 11 to Fedora 12.I searched the internet to try to find the root cause of the problem.I created this bug report:URL...However, no comments were added how to solve the problem.Enabling msi for nvidia and hda-intel made the system much more stable. But I still experience sometimes crashes.I do not know how to enable msi for uhci_hcd:usX, which is still sharing interrupts with ata_piix and ehci_hcd:usbX.Have you some hints? I hate it when my Fedora Linux system is crashing randomly.
I have SELinux set to permissive and am getting lots of errors because the contexts are incorrect after a filesystem relabel. e.g.
Code:
[root@fileserver2 var]# ls -alZ /data/serverlogs/messages -rw-------. root root system_u:object_r:default_t:s0 /data/serverlogs/messages
I believe that this file should be var_log_t.How can I restore the correct context to all of the files in /var/log?I've tried running:
Code:
restorecon -vR /var/log/
But this does not change the contexts, I guess because the files are now in the 'incorrect' location. I've looked through the file: /etc/selinux/targeted/contexts/files/file_contexts which I believe contains the original/default settings - maybe I need to alter this file to fix the problem? I've also tried modifying /data/serverlogs using:
Code:
semanage fcontext -a -t var_log_t /data/serverlogs
which fixes the directory itself, but not the contents,
I changed the network setting and caused a problem of wireless network. After I completely reinstall the OS of Fedora 13, the wireless network is still incorrect for connection to router.
Ubuntu 64bit. The sound system works and plays noises correctly when I test the speakers in sound preferances. The internet BBCi player(Radio) plays sound correctly. Banshee & Rhythmbox try to play music files at double, or more, speed with no sound output. Spotify Linux version also tries to playback at double speed with no sound output. Media Player attempts to play music files at high speed. Media player plays the Video and audio tracks at high speed. VLC Will play the video at normal speed but with no audio.
i both have the same problem, i'm trying to burn my images at 4 or 8 speed, but ubuntu 10.04 says that the hardware does not support that kind of speed and switch up to 16 speed and more. i know it can burn at low speeds, at least in windows, it is a bit strange that fast burning is okee, and slow not, what can i do to prevent this? i don't wanna burn to much errors on my discs
Now that I have system-config-display installed I tried to create a new xorg.conf so I can have 3D acceleration, etc using the correct driver. But the xorg.conf file generated does not work. It locks up the laptop (Toshiba Satellite A45-S250). I don't understand why this happens because the Fedora 12 Live CD (for i686) works find on boot.
I tried looking for the xorg.conf file after booting the live CD but it doesn't exist. I don't understand what is happening here. Also, when I used an older version of Fedora (8 I think) the X driver was i810 which worked fine. It gave me all the 3D acceleration, etc. When I installed F11 it gave me a dumbed down install using the VESA driver. What happened to the i810 driver? Why does the intel driver not work? Why does the Live CD work great but an installed system not?
