I like the server login information that gets displayed when you login to a 10.04 server. It lists disk usage, CPU usage, Temperature etc...
Unfortunately I had problems installing 10.04 from a USB. At the end of the process the master boot record was stored on the USB and not the hard disk.
But now when I login to my server I don't get the server information.
I wanted to set up Computer Lab. loading Fedora 11 OS and one system acting as a Server to store Users(Student) Login Informations. When students do a programs, all programs (eg, C++ programs) files should be saved in the local fedora system but when login to the system, the login should be validate by a Server System.

It's not uname, free, top, df, uptime, etc... Also doesn't appear to be anything in /proc that I've found. Anyone know what it is? I want to grab its output as part of a script. I could use other commands I suppose, but this system info output is neat and concise.

How would I get the SSH server to start before I've logged in?Basically, the problem I have is that if I'm connecedt to my computer remotely over SSH, and reboot the machine, I'm not able to SSH back in after it restarts. As far as I can tell, this is because the SSH server doesn't automatically start up until after I've logged in for the first time.How would I get around that? Surely that is a fairly common scenario for network admins (especially ones who have keyboardless and monitorless machines running).

But after the first update, I can not login to the desktop environment.e login screen shows no user accounts, but other than that appears normal (purple background, ubuntu logo in white box mid-screen, and the options to shutdown, etc on the bottom bar). The mouse works, however the pc will not shut down nor restart from the on-screen commands.

I have installed CC,CLC,SC,NC and a client and logged into thje user interface using my browser for the first time with bith username and passwd as admin and downloaded the credentials.But now as I try to login with the same username and passwd, it says that its an invalid login. I understand we have to change the password on the first login but i don't remember doing the same.
I tried recover password option and gave the user name as admin and email address as my gmail id. It says that I have to follow the instructions sent to the mail, but there is no mail sent I have done it like 5 or 6 times with different mail ids
I'm hosting a server with Ubuntu 10.04. I've stumbled upon a strange problem.The server seems to refuse any login attempts, either with SSH or via a TTY after a reboot. After a couple of minutes (about 10 minutes or so) I able to login. The memory usage isn't high at login nor the system load. The auth.log doesn't show any login attempt before.problem? Or does anybody have a suggestion I could try to fix this?

Iam facing a weird problem with ubuntu since last week... Starting system-->selecting ubuntu from grub menu-->ubuntu splash screen comes and it loads fully-->black screen is displayed instead of login window.. Restarting the system and the prob is gone..able to login properly..

I'm using Ubuntu 10.04. When I get to the login screen, I am given a choice of the usernames available on the computer.
What I want is a simple username field to fill in, so other users of this computer won't know what user name accounts on the machine. Unfortunately, the only other option I can see is for automatic login - the last thing I want!

View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently setup an email server on Fedora Core (14). Sendmail is running and I am trying to authenticate from a client pc using imaps. I installed Cyrus-imap and it is running and listening on 993. When I try to login, it doesn't accept authentication even though I verified the user's password is correct. (tested with ssh)Is there something I have to do with Cyrus or on the server to allow connections to email? I have not used Cyrus before. I am attempting to access my mail folders via Sendmail and did not make mailboxes in Cyrus. I did allow imaps through the firewall.
View 1 Replies View RelatedNew to Linux in the last year, used Debian Wheezy off and on for a time - trying to build a system up from a minimum net-install, just to learn more about it.
I have a niggling little problem - either of understanding or configuration. I started with the min install and installed X using apt-get or aptitude. Then installed JWM, which I would start from the console via startx. I really liked this setup, since it was simple and I knew what was going on. This was all on Wheezy.
After the upgrade to Jessie (via dist-upgrade), I would get messages popping up "on top of" the console login when I booted. Stuff like "b43-loading firmware …" would pop up on screen while I was typing my login/password. This was kind of disconcerting (seemed like something must be misconfigured) but didn't effect functionality at all.
Eventually I decided to try a display manager, since that would (I thought) avoid the whole console login process and thus the weird overlapping messages. I installed LightDM through aptitude and it works great, but the console login is still displayed first (briefly, maybe 3-4 seconds) before the LightDM greeter takes over the screen.
It is there just long enough to confuse the unwary, who start typing their login name only to have the screen replaced by the LightDM login screen and have to start over. Obviously this isn't a big deal (everything works fine), but since the whole point of this project was to understand, I'm very curious if this is normal behavior (videos I've seen of folks installing Debian seem to show boot messages jumping straight to the DM without showing:

I am facing login issues when i try to login as admin using phpldapadmin into ldap server. Installed phpldapadmin for administering ldap server from the repository:

2)yum install phpldapadmin
Able to see the default phpldapadmin login page.
ldapadmin throws the error as "Bad username/password.Please try again"
But when i login as anonymous i am able to login but the web page asks whether to create the root domain?
whether anything needs to be done for making it login as admin.

- Tried generating rsa (as well as dsa) keys on the linux server and put the generated public key in the ~/.ssh/authorized_keys. Then I converted the private key using PuttyGen.
- Also, tried generating keys using PuttyGen and then converted the public key and placed it on the server
- Configured the sshd server (ssh_config) for using RSAAuthentication=yes. Tried all combinations and purmutations; however, I still get the "Server refused our key" error.
We have a CentOS server which has beed restarted due to some reason. Now we have ping to the server and we can reboot it via KVM, but the server loads to some messaageThis is filter.unknown_domain (Linux ...)Filter Login:and then it stops. After changing my user's UID number with the "usermod -u" command or otherwise changing the login settings my computer no longer logs in automatically. I can login manually by selecting the "Other" option and manually typing in my user-name and password. However my user-name is gone from the list of users at the login screen or in the Login Screen Settings program.
Other than that my computer seems to function fine. My users details are still listed in "User settings".
I want the last login information whenever I log in through FTP.
This is possible for normal console and SSH logins by configuring in /etc/login.defs file. But I am not able to view the last login information when FTP is used.
I'm trying to set up NX to let me remotely access a Centos 5.4 machine, and I'm unable to log in.
I try to login using the official client on Windows XP, and the official server on the Centos machine (but I got the same errors with the freenx server in the repos). I input my normal username and password, that works locally and over ssh, but I get "Authentication failed for user username". The 'details' button is greyed out.
The client's ssh server listens on a high port, not port 22. (That port is forwarded by the router at the server's site.) Perhaps this is the source of my problems.
The user's ~/.ssh/authorized_keys2 looks a bit odd,
