SUSE :: Doesn't Have The Drivers For The Monitor?
Apr 19, 2010
i've installed suse 11.2 on an Acer laptop with Gnome 2.28 without any hicups. Everything working. External Harrdrive, USB Mouse & Keyboard. So been playing about with it and installed a Mac Theme which worked. Now I thought i'd start using the laptop through my Hannon 25 inch monitor, but i pluged it in set it to not display on the laptop only on the monitor and the monitor jsut displays wavy lines. Which i think is because it doesn't have the drivers for the monitor?

I have activated dual screen monitors using the Nvidia driver GUI as Sax2 would not correctly configure it. Now at every boot I get the message "undefined video mode 31a, press [enter] for a list of video modes or [space] to continue. After pressing space the system boots to my liking, how can I get rid of the message at every boot up?
I am using Suse 11.2 and KDE4.3.1 My video card is an Nvidia Geforce 7100 GS I thought I was using the Nvidia drivers as I have a GUI from Nvidia in my launch menu if I search "Nvidia" and I have completed the one-click installation. Although when I go into "My Computer" it says driver unknown.

I have a disturbing problem with my monitor which goes to sleep (or ??) after few minutes if my comp is not used and most of the time I have to restart my comp.I disabled everything in Powersave , but nothing. I did have that problem in previous versions of SUSE, but somehow, I solved that. I cant remember what I did then.

just setup suse 11.3 , put on the Nvidia 19.29-22.1 drivers via yast , no kms is set in inetd , nomodeset on grub boot line etc... Even tried installing the driver " the hard way " dual monitors come up, setup xinerama to "Extend" my desktop , and the main monitor ( right side ) is good, visually the left monitor (2ndary) is good.. but whenever I move my mouse over to the left screen the mouse pointer dissapears, flickers along the right hand border of that screen... and if i move the cursor back to the original screen i have to really fight to get it back to the main screen....Copy of my xorg.conf , still very basic...

I have been using ubuntu for quite a long time, and for the first time, I am now unable to set nvidia drivers to work. I have just install ubuntu 9.10 amd64 on an AMD 64 athlong X2 with a GEForce 6500 nvidia card.
The only reason I need the proprietary drivers is to use two monitors.
I am going crazy, I have tested everything I have found on the web. I have tried all the nvidia drivers version, I have tried envyng, ... but nvidia do not work!!
I am trying Xinerama with nv, but it does not work either!!!
Here is my xorg.conf file in which I have tried to use nv driver to set dual monitor. X fails to load and it says that screen 0 is deleted, that devices are found but there are no matches in the config file. Any clue?

I installed Karmic on an older PC I had laying around, and the only trouble I am having is with screen resolution. It uses an old ATI chipset (onboard) for video, and it doesn't seem to do EDID correctly, so I can't display anything higher than 800x600. I have tried creating an xorg.conf, but it's still not working. How can I tell Xorg to ignore the fact it can't detect a widescreen monitor and display something larger than 800x600? I noticed the log says the sync's are out of range, but I am not sure how to fix it.
Here is my current xorg.conf.
Code:
Section "ServerLayout"
Identifier "X.org Configured"
Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0
InputDevice "Mouse0" "CorePointer"
InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard"

I have an Acer Aspire 5100 with AMD turion 64X2 and an ATI radion XPRESS 1100 graphics card.I recently installed suse 11.2 (clean install) without much trouble but I've always had some intermittent trouble were the screen would just go blank after boot up (before login screen) this did not happen always and never happened in safe mode or on XP on the same laptop, ergo software fail.Anyway, this morning I have a laptop with absolutely nothing on the screen from start to end. I also get a loud beep followed by two shorter beeps! If I let the boot up progress I can blindly find myself in normal Suse or in safemode or even in XP all without anything on screen

I have been having lots of trouble getting my system up and running after I installed a Radeon HD 5850 on my suse machine. I did as they told by uninstalling the previous drivers and installing the new ones as stated in ATI Catalystâ„¢ 10.2 Linux Installer Note.
2)sh ./ati-driver-installer-10-2-x86.x86_64.run
7) /usr/bin/aticonfig --initial
This was all done from a terminal... And I did this for Suse distributions 11.1 and 11.2. Both times my mouse cursor disappeared, but this could easily be fixed by adding the option "SWCursor" "on" option under the Device section.
This was only part of the solution as I still have incredible lag on my windows e.g. when I scroll down a web page it takes incredibaly long to render and you can see it rendering the page in steps from the bottom up. As well as when I drag a window across my desktop it lags behind and you can se it reforming at the new position.
Finally I tried different releases of the proprietary driver. I tried 10.1 and this did not give me the mouse cursor issue, but the window lag still prevails. These are my xorg.conf and xorg.0.log files for my current setup. Opensuse 11.1 and proprietary driver version 10.1. I have an Radeon HD 5850 card.[URL]..
I should add that I am on a private network, and only have the oss, non-oss and packman repositories available. (Is it possible to add the AMD driver repository? Because I have trid and the firewall refuses connection.)

Not so long ago I bought hp4320s. From different kind of OS-s I choose Ubuntu 10.04.1. But at the official site drivers are provided only with SUSE Linux. The question is: Can I use these drivers for Ubuntu Linux? If so, how can it be done?

Last friday I went home from work and just turned off my monitor, as a program I had written needed to run a durability test over the weekend. Unfortunately it seems that the moment I turned off my monitor, Linux just froze, quite evidently as it said this morning that the time was still Friday 17:13.
From the syslog I got the following on that time:
What this means and what I can do? It's not the first time it crashes as soon as I turn my monitor off.

I have been tasked to set up 2 monitors on SUSE Linux Enterprise that are a clone of each other, but each displaying different resolutions. The primary display has a max resolution of 1024x768 while the secondary display has a max resolution of 800x600.
The problem comes when the secondary display shows a "cropped" version of the desktop. Is there anyway to show different resolutions on each display while maintaining the proper desktop look?

Ive been a ubuntu user for about 3 years now, but lately I wanted to find something new. Ubuntu is beginning to feel less and less like "linux". So anyway I am having a bit of trouble getting my gfx card working in suse. I have a AMD Radeon HD 6850. In ubuntu I just get a popup says that restricted drives are available, and i click to install them. but In suse im not quite sure what to do. I believe I have the drives installed correctly, but I get a AMD watermark in the bottom right corner of my screen saying my hardware is unsupported.
What is the easiest way to get the latest working drivers for my video card? and keep them updated properly with each kernel update like in ubuntu? btw, im running openSUSE 11.4 64-bit.
I know this has been asked before, but im a complete noob to suse and I cant seem to find a answer that im able to understand.Other than this issue with my graphics driver I love everything else.

I recently bought myself a 22" widescreen LG monitor and am running Ubuntu 8.10 with it. Trouble is when I set the screen resolution to 1920*1080 which is the actual resolution of the monitor it shrinks the text and web pages to miniscule proportions.Text becomes tiny and web pages with firefox display as a column occupying about a third of the screen.I have to decrease the resolution to 1024*768 which makes web pages display better (at least they take up the whole screen)
Is there some way to install the proprietory drivers that came with the monitor? They are an .inf file on the supplied disc.I have a Nividia graphics card a GE Force FX 5200.I also have the 173.14.12 Nividia driver installed if this means anything to anyone.

I installed openSuSE 11.2 sometime ago in a COMPAQ Presario CQ60-419WM laptop (the ones that Wal-mart sold for $300 about a year-and-a-half ago. I installed the 64-bit version because I saw that the processor could support that (perhaps that was not a good idea). I have some problems that seem related to not having the necessary drivers. My wireless has never worked and my display is far from what I would like it to be (the response is slow, if a drag a window, its motion is jerky, if I scroll down in a browser window, the motion is wavy). The look and feel is very different from what I get at work and I do not know how to fix it.

I made an image of a server(A). It did not work because It did not see /dev/sda. So I used another cd from indentical sever(B), cd which had work. Then mounted the nfs copy the image over. Server(B) had slightly older version of sles. And its not using lvm. But point is it had appropriate driver in the image cd.
Now situation is, This new image copied ever thing over.(I can mount it using LIVE CD). But When I boot up server it wont see vg volume group. I believe scsi driver is missing. After booting from LIVE CD I chroot in root used yast to add initrd modules, qla2xxx, mptbase, mptscsih(other server(B) had those). Still when I reboot it, it get stuck saying

So after I installed the ATI Radeon 3400 series video card in my machine, the Xserver cant start! after it loads, it takes me to the init 3. When I tried startx, the screens either go blank or doesnt let me.
I tried to install everything following this website: [url]
I wanted dual monitors but now I cant even get one. The xwindows doesnt appear.
Things I tried:
1. Deleted the xorg.conf and reconfigured (didnt work).
2. sax2 -r -m 0=versa (didnt work)
3. reconfigured the ATI radeon driver from init 3 (didnt work)
4. copy and paste the oold version of xorg.conf (didnt work)
5. tried to run set apt or dpkg-reconfigure command (commands not found)
6. tried xconfig and prompt the best I coudl (didnt work).
7. aticonfig commands (As shown in website) (also didnt work)
I have the live CD to run it from there but I dont know what to do once I get to the terminal.
Is there any way I can revert to previous configuration since the ATI driver gives me some problems? Like a restore function in windows?
How or what files I should change for the X-server to run properly (is there any other file than xorg.conf?....)
The monitors I have:
2009W Dell Monitor
1398 Dell Monitor (I wan to get the dual exntended monitor but it seems to gave me only the mirror image, thats why I tried to reconfigure the video card)
VideoCard:
ATI HD Radeon Mobile 3400 Series
Computer:
Dell Optiplex 680 (i believe) with SUSE 11.26 and x86_64 bit
Or if you can send me the xorg.conf file ...

When ever I install the (recommended) drivers through the "Additional Drivers" interface to run Unity my dual monitor setup does not work. The monitors won't even detect correctly what so ever. Then, when ever I install (more basic?) nVidia drivers through the packet manager, my dual monitors work as planned, but now Unity won't work. What's the deal? Are there any work arounds for this?

I have installed openSUSE with Gnome3.
I had to install the nVidia proprietary drives so the OS would boot into Gnome3 and not fail safe mode. Without the proprietary drivers installed the display settings said:
Driver: software rasterizer in use
After installing the nVidia drivers Gnome3 works in one monitor, but I would like to be able to use my other two monitors (totaling three with two video cards.)
When I run nvidia-settings to generate an xorg.conf file it hangs, so I used nvidia-xorgconf to generate the xorg file and then used nvidia-settings to configure my extra screens.
This fails with a permissions error, running sudo nvidia-settings fails with the following error:
ERROR:
So, I ran nvidia-settings, saved the settings file to my /home/$USER dir, then copied xorg.conf to /etc/X11/
Logging out and logging back into Gnome fails with the error:
This problem extends to Ubuntu running Gnome3, so my thinking is:
a) Imma id10t and something in my xorg.conf file is wrong,
b) there is an issue with Gnome3/nVidia/Multiple displays.
I would really like to use Gnome3, it works on multiple other machines (ironically all ATI devices) just not the machine I use all day long...
Here is my xorg.conf file as generated by nvidia-settings.

i have a viewsonic VA712b monitor that used to get 1280x1024 resolution on my dell optiplex gx260 that had the intel video card.i upgraded my motherboard cpu and memory..the nvidia 6100 that is onboard seems like it would be an improvement to my old onboard intel but the best resolution i can get is 1024x768
i installed the nvidia 185 drivers and it's not recognizing my monitor as a flat panel lcd but as a crt, also it won't set the correct refreshrate - either 60 or 75.. it's set at 50... since xorg 7.4 no longer uses a xorg.conf file.. i'm not sure how to go about manually adjusting the settings to ones that will actually work. i mean other than buying a separate graphics car (URL)

I have loaded Suse 10.3 on a system that has 4 Ethernet ports, all Intel chipsets. 2 ports have the 82571 chipset, 1 port has the 82573 chipset and the last one has the 82567. The 82567 chipset can use the e1000 driver and the 8257x chipsets require the e1000e driver. We are only actually using the 82571 ports.
When the system is booted, the 82567 seems to get bound to the e1000 driver and the 82573 gets bound to the e1000e driver. Doing an "lsmod" I see both drivers loaded. It appears the 82571 drivers are getting bound to the e1000 driver which is a major problem. They work for a while but eventually they lock up with enormous error counts according to "ifconfig". How I know the e1000 driver is bound to the 82571 ports is that when I remove it(modprobe -r e1000) and then try to use one of them, I get a "network unreachable". When e1000 is loaded these ports seem to work fine. I tried modding the file in /etc/sysconfig/hardware that corresponds to the PCI address of these ports(i.e., hwcfg-bus-pci-0000:08:00.0) to force the module to e1000e, but no luck there either.

The maximum resolution is the correct 1440 * 900 for 19 "but the refresh rate by not recognizing the monitor down to 50hz me and gives me the option to 60hz as it was before installing the nvidia drivers.
How can I fix the display settings?
