OpenSUSE Hardware :: Suse 11.2 Monitor Just Went BLANK?

Feb 1, 2010

I have an Acer Aspire 5100 with AMD turion 64X2 and an ATI radion XPRESS 1100 graphics card.I recently installed suse 11.2 (clean install) without much trouble but I've always had some intermittent trouble were the screen would just go blank after boot up (before login screen) this did not happen always and never happened in safe mode or on XP on the same laptop, ergo software fail.Anyway, this morning I have a laptop with absolutely nothing on the screen from start to end. I also get a loud beep followed by two shorter beeps! If I let the boot up progress I can blindly find myself in normal Suse or in safemode or even in XP all without anything on screen

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Nvidia 19.29-22.1 Suse 11.3 Dual Monitor Mouse Flickers When Moved To 2nd Monitor?

Jan 15, 2011

just setup suse 11.3 , put on the Nvidia 19.29-22.1 drivers via yast , no kms is set in inetd , nomodeset on grub boot line etc... Even tried installing the driver " the hard way " dual monitors come up, setup xinerama to "Extend" my desktop , and the main monitor ( right side ) is good, visually the left monitor (2ndary) is good.. but whenever I move my mouse over to the left screen the mouse pointer dissapears, flickers along the right hand border of that screen... and if i move the cursor back to the original screen i have to really fight to get it back to the main screen....Copy of my xorg.conf , still very basic...

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Video Card Drivers - Monitor Goes Blank ?

Feb 11, 2010

So after I installed the ATI Radeon 3400 series video card in my machine, the Xserver cant start! after it loads, it takes me to the init 3. When I tried startx, the screens either go blank or doesnt let me.

I tried to install everything following this website: [url]

I wanted dual monitors but now I cant even get one. The xwindows doesnt appear.

Things I tried:
1. Deleted the xorg.conf and reconfigured (didnt work).
2. sax2 -r -m 0=versa (didnt work)
3. reconfigured the ATI radeon driver from init 3 (didnt work)
4. copy and paste the oold version of xorg.conf (didnt work)
5. tried to run set apt or dpkg-reconfigure command (commands not found)
6. tried xconfig and prompt the best I coudl (didnt work).
7. aticonfig commands (As shown in website) (also didnt work)

I have the live CD to run it from there but I dont know what to do once I get to the terminal.

Is there any way I can revert to previous configuration since the ATI driver gives me some problems? Like a restore function in windows?

How or what files I should change for the X-server to run properly (is there any other file than xorg.conf?....)

The monitors I have:
2009W Dell Monitor
1398 Dell Monitor (I wan to get the dual exntended monitor but it seems to gave me only the mirror image, thats why I tried to reconfigure the video card)

VideoCard:
ATI HD Radeon Mobile 3400 Series

Computer:
Dell Optiplex 680 (i believe) with SUSE 11.26 and x86_64 bit

Or if you can send me the xorg.conf file ...

SUSE :: OpenSUSE Crashes - Freezes When Turn Off My Monitor

Jul 6, 2009

Last friday I went home from work and just turned off my monitor, as a program I had written needed to run a durability test over the weekend. Unfortunately it seems that the moment I turned off my monitor, Linux just froze, quite evidently as it said this morning that the time was still Friday 17:13.

From the syslog I got the following on that time:

What this means and what I can do? It's not the first time it crashes as soon as I turn my monitor off.

I have run 11 and 11.1 on this box and have not had a problem with this. I have a P4 3.00 GHz with 2 GB of RAM.

Ubuntu :: Screen Is Blank / Add A Monitor?

Feb 23, 2010

I'm a newbie so apologies if there is a trivial answer to this.

I (maybe somewhat rashly) tried to connect my tv to my laptop (Dell Latitude D400) running Ubuntu 9.10.

I plugged in the cable, went to the System>Display menu, where it had detected the model and make of tv (Samsung 19" LCD) (I think the resolution was 1650 x 1050 or similar). I clicked the box to activate the second monitor with the "Virtual resolution" adjusted. It told me to log out then log back in.

I accordingly logged out but then couldn't log back in. It had evidently changed the resolution not only on the 2nd monitor but also on the laptop monitor. A box was visible on screen but completely illegible/unclear since the laptop monitor couldn't display that resolution.

After a few restarts and button pushes it is now restarting at a terminal (I enter my username/password at a command prompt on an otherwise blank screen rather than the graphical interface loading up).

Question: are there any commands that could change the resolution back to its original settings then restart the Ubuntu graphic interface? Some thing similar to the "load with last known good configuration settings" option in Windows maybe.

Hardware :: External Monitor Goes Blank?

May 17, 2010

After the login screen, my laptop screen is active but the external LCD monitor hooked to my laptop goes blank which was active to that point.

Here are quite a few details which might help you in diagnosing the problem

alt + clt + f1 takes the monitor screen to command line but alt + clt + f7 fails to bring it back to GUI. The monitor just freezes!!

Fedora Hardware :: F15: External Monitor Blank?

May 26, 2011

Previous Fedora releases allowed me to connect to my external monitor via an HDMI-DVI cable to use as my main monitor from my laptop. However, after I did a fresh install of Fedora 15, I have this problem that when I login to gnome 3, both laptop screen and external monitor go blank. I cannot ctrl-alt-f2 to go to terminal. I end up having to ssh from another machine and reboot. Each time, the reboot doesn't even work since I have to go and kill Xorg before it starts to reboot.plymouth and gdm seem to be fine and show up the external monitor. It is only when I login to gnome3 that I get the blank screens.

My system powers on, motherboard led glows, the processor starts running and so does the graphics card. The monitor stays blank though. Nothing shows up on the monitor. Just a blank screen with the monitor led blinking. What could be the problem ? It was working fine before I replaced my psu.

Ubuntu :: Blank Screen (ATI) On TV When It Works On Monitor?

Jul 31, 2011

Natty install -- ATI 9800 is the video board.

I installed Natty on it with the machine hooked up to a Samsung LCD with a 1680x1050 resolution over DVI. No problems at all. I want the box to pretty much output MP3s and web video, so I'm not needing much. When I take the box and hook it via DVI to my LCD, I get a blank screen on boot up. I try sticking the natty CD in it, and I get a blank screen trying to live boot it too. The LCD doesn't do 1680x1050, so I brought it back to my Samsung and set the default resolution to something nice and safe: 1280x1024. Still the same behavior. When I take splash mode off, I see a "load fallback graphics devices fail" error as it is booting up. Hard for me to think the driver is the fault here when it works on my over LCD just fine.

It is acting like a screen saver with the blank screen option set. My screensaver preferences are set to use a screen saver 'for a 7-minute idle period. The lock screen option is off. For AC power management never is chosen for "put computer to sleep" and 30 minutes is chosen for the "put display to sleep" option.

Fedora Installation :: External Monitor Goes Blank When It Boots?

Aug 20, 2011

I have installed Fedora 15 64bit live with no apparent errors and I get to the "Welcome" where it says just a few more steps before I can start using Fedora after filling in the details hit the "Forward" button in the lower right hand corner. The problem is I can't see the forward button, its like I need to page down or something but everything I have tried isn't working. I then decided to use the Fedora 15 64bit DVD thinking a driver was missing or something and it is still the same issue. I am using a Thinkpad T61 laptop with an external monitor and the external monitor goes blank when it boots to the welcome screen, but I can scroll over to the external and see the mouse cursor on the external. It seems that if I could see the welcome screen on the external monitor that I might be able to see the "Forward" button. Both installs went without a hitch, the DVD install found my internet connection and downloaded a bunch of stuff and the DVD install took about two hours to complete, again with no errors reported. I hope I am not being daft here and missing something obvious.

Ubuntu :: Changed A Screen Resolution The Monitor Went Blank?

At first attempt server started but after I changed a screen resolution the monitor went blank. I restarted a computer but after the X server started immediately the monitor wnet blank. I found that for completely for me unknown reasons Xorg was trying to use an NVIDIA glx module with radeon driver. I removed this nvidia driver, I expected ubuntu would be able automatically to set up a proper configuration, but instead of ubuntu complained about a missing driver. I also tried manually to set up some basic config using Xorg -configure but after that the Xorg server was stuck.

Debian Hardware :: Laptop Screen Goes Blank With External Monitor

Mar 28, 2016

I am running Debian 8.3, and I'm running Gnome 3.14.1.I have an external monitor plugged in with HDMI, and while Linux is loading both screens are on duplicate. Once the GUI kicks in, only the external screen works, so I have to enter my password blindly. Then, I open a terminal and run

Code: Select allsudo echo 950 > /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness

and the laptop screen turns back on.

I'm wondering: Is there a way to streamline this so that it happens on boot, but after GNOME loads?Or: Is there a better method to solve this?

Debian Hardware :: AMD Quad M4A785TD-V: Monitor Freq Out-of-Range, Blank Screen?

Mar 14, 2010

Last Thursday, 3/11, I installed a new mother board (ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO), AMD Athlon II X4 Processor, 4Gig DDR3 ram (RIP JAWS), 1 SATA DVD drive, along with my 2 IDE HDD's. The display was OK during BIOS review, and boot UNTIL it came to mounting x-graphics, at which point the screen went black, and a display message came up saying Out-of-RangeHf: 30KHz-70KHzVf: 50Hz-90HzCurrent Frequency:90.3KHz, 60.0Hz.

Does anyone know what is causing this? I mean, is there no way that Deb 5 X86 is going to run on a quad 64-bit system, or can something else be wrong? Before changing hardware, I had seen indications that this system was backward-compatible to older systems, and the more in depth study I've done since seems to verify this.y be, however, that I completely mis-understand what I am reading - this is all pretty new to me.

I tried booting into Debian 4, Libranet 3, and Linspire 6. They all complained loudly, but differently, about x being inoperable. I can't tell you how they complained because I can't go back and check them. THAT is because, in BIOS, I was testing the system with all the different options for "Internal Graphics", to see if one would work. One of these options was "Disabled". Oh-ho-ho! BAD MOVE!!! it's disabled, all right, including BIOS! I can't believe it. There was no warning, whatsoever. I assumed no engineer in his right mind would allow that option to lock out the BIOS without SOME kind of warning. I'm going to try to call ASUS tech support tomorrow to see if they have a solution, but if anyone knows how to reverse this, please let me know. I suppose the only answer is a separate graphics board. But I don't want to get that if I can't use this MotherBd.-processor setup.
