Questions:
1) How can I learn which packages I've deleted or installed to make the changes back - I mean install deleted packages and delete installed by mistake?
2) Is there an instrument to make a complete system roll-back to some time point?
When I was using polipo on Ubuntu, it automatically start at system boot. Now I'm using opensuse, I installed polipo from the repository, however, I have to manually start it by using "sudo polipo". If root privilege is not given, polipo won't work correctly. What should I do to make it start at boot automatically?
a friend told me to creat /etc/boot.local, with code...
The package manager runs when a user clicks on a .rpm file automatically. I tried clicking on it from a normal user dolphin window and it opened up but since it can't install to a /something directory, I had to run it as su. So I try to open dolphin as su and then click on my file. I see the package editor starting up (bouncy icon and a space in the panel) but it never actually pops up a window. Now when I click on the file from either user this is happening. What's going on? Is this a bug?
**update, it popped up from normal user after like 10x attempts and it said that the repository already exists and this is an unexpected error. what does that mean? what errors are "expected"?
I've just noticed my Dolphin compress service menu doesn't compress anything except for '*.zip'. It used to compress '*.tar.gz' and '*tar.bz2' but now none of these work, and the bz2 option is gone altogether.Does anyone know what might have happened?I have openSUSE 11.3 & KDE 4.6, but this happened before I upgraded to KDE4.6 just a few days ago, so it's not KDE4.6 related, maybe 4.5? maybe Dolphin?I also tried to install the extract/compress plugin but it says "Could not find program 'compress_TARBZ2.sh'" which all are in my /bin folder. I also checked I have all the extract/compress file installed: zip, tar, gzip, bzip and so on.I also tried 'Compress to...' which open Ark, then I selected either 'gz' or 'bz' and still nothing happened.
I'm running oS 11.3 KDE 4.6.3. If I try to delete a read-only file in the terminal I can, but get a warning message I have to confirm:
[Code]...
In Dolphin the file is simply sent to trash, no warning. I couldn't find a setting in Dolphin configuration options to change this. I do have "Ask for confirmation. when moving files and folders to trash" unchecked, but even so, if the file is read-only?
I have a brand new install of 11.3, with all the updates, on a cleaned system, following some hdd and cable problems.
So far three problems have surfaced:-
1. Dolphin doesn't see and hard disks other than the root hdd. They appear on the left side in the list, but cannot be accessed as suse seems to have chosen not to mount them.I need them because they have my backup data on them.
2. At each bootup, I have manually to reset the required screen resolution. I need to prevent it defaulting to the wrong resolution every time.
3. I cannot now see my Windows workgroup at all. This is in stark contrast to another distro I've tried which found it and set everything up automatically. The workgroup has one WinXP machine on cable via a router, plus one Win7 machine via router and wifi link. I guessit failed to sort out smb.conf or something?
I was trying to delete a printer software package and some how managed to do away with part of my system.Guess I clicked on something I shouldn't have. Before I realized what was going on about a page of deleting this and that zipped by before I aborted. Is there a way of finding out what was deleted so I can put it back together? The stuff in my home folder is still intact, so if I have to do a new install it's no biggy.Just hoping I wouldn't have to.Had to reinstall dolphin just to see that the home folder was still there and intact.
I installed ISE 12.2 DSP edition trail version and I have matlab 2009b edition. After a brief search I found [URL] this. But directory hierarchy is different in 12.2 than that of mentioned in that forum link.
I have installed matlab at /home/trans/Matlab and xilinx at /home/trans/Xilinx. Though I have sysgen_startup.m at /home/trans/Xilinx/ISE_DS/ISE/sysgen/util if I try to run sysgen by using command "./sysgen" I get error as
ERROR: Could not find SysGen startup script at "/home/trans/Xilinx/ISE/sysgen/util/sysgen_startup.m". As per the above mentioned link I found sg_config at /home/trans/Xilinx/ISE_DS/ISE/sysgen/bin/lin and used command "./sg_config -install_to_matlab /home/trans/Matlab" I get message like this
[Code]....
I didn't understand the above error. I have chosen matlab workspace as /home/trans/Documents/MATLAB but I haven't pointed anything to that location.
So finally how do I set environmental variables at /home/trans/Xilinx/ISE_DS/ISE and how do I get sysgen to work? I installed ISE from the DVD which I got from xilinx
I have Slackware 13.1 x64 and my graphic card is ATI Radeon HD 2400 on my laptop. I install from ATI official site driver for this card and now when I try to come in System Settings->Desktop I got this error:
I It does not start when the system boots. The smbd daemon is present and there are no suspicious messages in the system log, dmesg or the samba logs. The nmb service *is* enabled at all of the relevant run levels and does start if I issue the command "service nmb start" as root after I log in. This particular box's networking is 802.11n via a usb port and is under the control of the network manager. I have another fedora 12 box with an internal intel 5100 802.11n card and it does not have this problem.
I have a headless mythtv running 13, when there's no monitor connected X doesn't start. If I plug a monitor in it still doesn't do my any good as there's no kb/mouse either. I know the system has booted fine as I can connect to myth remotely. This a slackware or x problem? Want to run x11vnc here but without x I can't do that.
I use release 11.2 and this one works very well. I try new release 11.3 and my system crash when I wont to start system on runlevel 5. There is Sempron 2 GHz CPU and nvidia fx550 graphics card. Keyboard PS2 does not responds but mouse on USB work well. When I start "safe" boot option system work well. What I can to do ? What I must change
I want to be able to view KDE's Start Menu. Something went wrong with my distribution and I'm unable to open the start menu but am wondering if there's a way I can view the start menu from Dolphin. If possible I want to make note of what programs to install since I plan on doing a fresh install of a new distro.

I'm using KDE 4.3.5, openSuse 11.2 x64 and have a problem with Dolphin. I have to enter passwords for ftp, sftp and smb connections every time I try to open something, even with "Save password" option
I just installed openSUSE 11.4 and after the installation of VirtualBox I coudn't start it. The icon at the cursor kept jumping but no response. I tried to run the binary from Konsole and I got the following message:VirtualBox: supR3HardenedVerifyFileInternal: Failed to open "/usr/lib/virtualbox/VMMR0.r0": No such file or directory (2)I checked YaST to see which packages were installed:
Sometimes when I boot openSuse 11.2, it only boots to runlevel 2 (console) I have to log in as root and enter init 5 to make kdm appear. Then I can log in normally, and everything works fine.

I have just done a fresh network install on SUSE on a new HP Proliant ML115 server. The install seemed to go OK, but on rebooting after the install I get a shell logon/prompt -- no GUI. Have tried reinstalling with the same result. If I try to run startkde I get a message that says "$DISPLAY is not set or cannot connect to the X server."
I got an opensuse 10.2 on a aged desktop. Once start, it just stops at command line login prompt. I have to login and type 'startx' to get the GUI. Since I haven't used this computer for over half year. I couldn't remember what I did last time. Any tips for this problem?
As usual I was notified that there was an update available via the Update Manager which I duly accepted.I was then confronted with a popup which advised that there was a Distribution Upgrade and that it was to be a partial upgrade.
Finding that I would not go away I accepted the data finding that 9 packages were made available and 33 unused ones were to be deleted. As this is my first experience of this is it something I need worry about and if so what should I do about it?
I have recently disabled nautilus from showing up on my desktop. Now I can't seem to start nautilus. Starting it from gnome-terminal doesn't display anything, and it never shows, and it never terminates. The way I disabled nautilus from showing up on my desktop was by following Xmonad/Using xmonad in Gnome - HaskellWiki
My laptop is a Core 2 Centrino and i installed OpenSUSE 11.3 i586 on it recently. I tried to install the graphic card's driver using this instruction:ATI Installer HOWTO for openSUSE usersafter installation was done, i restarted the system but during the boot, where the openSUSE appears, the screen went black and nothing happened afterward untill i turned of the system manually.i tried again and same result, so i logged in with failsafe and un-installed those packages, now the system boots successfully, but it boots to the terminal instead of the desktop. i might have removed the X server package or something important.now that i have access to terminal and i can log in, i thought i can do something with it and solve it this way rather than re-installing the whole OS.he graphic card is :ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570, if anyone knows how to the driver for this card, please let me know how to.
