When I was using polipo on Ubuntu, it automatically start at system boot.
Now I'm using opensuse, I installed polipo from the repository, however, I have to manually start it by using "sudo polipo". If root privilege is not given, polipo won't work correctly.
What should I do to make it start at boot automatically?
a friend told me to creat /etc/boot.local, with code...
I am new to Fedora, not to RPM based distros (though it has been awhile) and I am not new to Linux. I like what I am seeing with Fedora, might be staying with it.
I am using Fedora 13.
I have Tor and Polipo installed. But for some reason Polipo doesn't want to work.

I have tor button installed and checked Firefox Network Proxy settings when tor is running, it is set up fine and forwarding to port 8118 as it should.
I haven't configured the firewall yet in Fedora 13 yet.
What am I missing?

Questions:
1) How can I learn which packages I've deleted or installed to make the changes back - I mean install deleted packages and delete installed by mistake?
2) Is there an instrument to make a complete system roll-back to some time point?
I have just done a fresh network install on SUSE on a new HP Proliant ML115 server. The install seemed to go OK, but on rebooting after the install I get a shell logon/prompt -- no GUI. Have tried reinstalling with the same result. If I try to run startkde I get a message that says "$DISPLAY is not set or cannot connect to the X server."
How do I resolve this?

Problem with FC13 on a 64 bit box...tried to get Tor and Polipo going and at boot, the system hangs as soon as Polipo starts up. I need to adjust or delete the Polipo service but can't seem to get to any kind of a terminal either...it used to be just hit ctl-alt-and and F key and it dropped to a term. Now that's not happening. Can I do that? And...alternatively, can I force a skip of the Polipo service as it's booting?

In other words, you should:
point your web browser at Privoxy (localhost:8118);
point Privoxy at Polipo (put forward / localhost:8123 in the Privoxy config file);
use no parent proxy in Polipo.
Now i tried to use Dansguardian togather with Privoxy and Dansguardian with the same configuration but fail.
I set up opensuse 11.4. I updated nvidia 6600 drivers from vendor. Everything is good until automatic kernel update. When I start the system, opensuse is not open with this lines.

View 7 Replies View RelatedopenSUSE 11.3 on T42 trying to use Tor (0.2.1.26-2) with polipo (1.0.4.1) with Firefox 3.6.12 and Torbutton 1.2.5
First time I tried to run it I had to restart polipo as root, having copied the config file from the tor project site but then all worked as hoped. I could toggle tor on and off with tor button and all was well. The tor test functioned and reported tor was working.
Today alas not so. I received error message to check polipo was running. It wasn't so I enabled it in system services and rebooted. Now polipo is running but when I try and use firefox for example to go to google, with torbutton enabled I get error message:- 504 Connect to Google failed: Connection refused.
I noted from other threads here that most people seem to use privoxy rather than polipo. Any reason for that? Is one better than the other?
i have a problem when i use test drive, it doesn't boot into the operating system. it just look like in dos when i login. what is wrong? shouldn't test drive let me see how its look when i use the live CD?
View 9 Replies View Relatedi have tried following the instructions for installing but nothing seems to work that do i need to know or ask that i am not doing to make this work. i made a dvd from the .iso but it does not want to do anything. i talked with the board manufacture about the bios needing to recognize the dvd but he said that bios does not have anything to do with it. it only sees it as an optical drive. what are the files on the dvd that the boot system needs to see for it to work? and lastly why does linux have to make things sooooo difficult.

I have several distro's and just let them install their bootloaders, but always on hd0 mbr. I installed Debian 5.0.1 this way and it wouldn't boot, so I got SGD to "fix" it, which it said was successful, but all I get is a partition doesn't exist when I try to boot. I put Debian on /dev/sdb3, I loaded Linux Rescueand mounted sdb3 and verified that its menu.lst had the right boot numbers (hd1,2). fdisk even showns /dev/sdb3 as boot as shown by the asterisk under the boot column. Should I do a complete reinstall of grub, maybe using one of the other distro's as the holder of grub? At one time they did all the grub launching as each addition was made

I have installed matlab at /home/trans/Matlab and xilinx at /home/trans/Xilinx. Though I have sysgen_startup.m at /home/trans/Xilinx/ISE_DS/ISE/sysgen/util if I try to run sysgen by using command "./sysgen" I get error as
ERROR: Could not find SysGen startup script at "/home/trans/Xilinx/ISE/sysgen/util/sysgen_startup.m".
As per the above mentioned link I found sg_config at /home/trans/Xilinx/ISE_DS/ISE/sysgen/bin/lin and used command "./sg_config -install_to_matlab /home/trans/Matlab" I get message like this

I have Slackware 13.1 x64 and my graphic card is ATI Radeon HD 2400 on my laptop. I install from ATI official site driver for this card and now when I try to come in System Settings->Desktop I got this error:

If I plug a monitor in it still doesn't do my any good as there's no kb/mouse either. I know the system has booted fine as I can connect to myth remotely. This a slackware or x problem? I bought the extra two computers because I've managed to find an extra two people to work at my company, and AMD-based PCs are cheaper so I've decided to buy them instead of Intel.Long-story short, I've installed Ubuntu 9.10 and boot time takes about half-an-hour. After the computers finally boot, USB hardware doesn't work at all. I was forced to buy PS/2 keyboards & mice and they both work fine after the PCs boot.I don't know what's causing this delay.I've enabled Cool 'n Quiet from BIOS.I've tried several instructions like editing the /etc/modules file.I've installed cpufreqd, tried to configure it, but it didn't work.I've check the CPU stats and my CPUs are running at 800MHz. I can't believe nobody managed to fix the 800MHz problem as I've noticed it's quite common among AMD Ubuntu users. I think I've tried almost anything that I've found on this forum.I can't keep asking my employees not to reboot their PCs. Both Chrome/Firefox crash a lot on Ubuntu so they're forced to restart their computers.The computer specs are: AMD Athlon II X2 240 dual-core @ 2.800MHz, 2GB RAM, 500GB HDD, etc.

After installation and reboot I get only black screen when X tries to start and keyboard doesn't work however when I press power button then the system shuts down properly after a while. I have noticed this for the first time on Hardy after installing Catalyst 9.9 and since then I have the same problem on Karmic and Catalyst 9.10/9.11 as well. View 7 Replies View RelatedI've installed Ubuntu on my new desktop alongside Windows 7 (each OS is on a separate drive), I seem to have run into a small problem. Let me start with what I did:
- Unplugged 1TB drive from the PSU, BIOS was not seeing my formatted (and thus empty) 500GB drive and I couldn't put it into the boot order at all with the 1TB turned on.
- Loaded up the boot CD and was able to install Ubuntu 10.1 on my 500GB drive.
- Did a bit of configuring, shut my PC off and plugged my 1TB (with Windows 7) drive back in. I tried to see if I could now see my Ubuntu drive in BIOS but nothing is there - just the Windows drive is in the list of available drives to boot from (along with DVD-ROM and USB).
This is where I've run into my problem. What I want is to have a nice GRUB boot menu at the start like any other dual-boot system but just have the two operating systems on separate drives altogether.I did it this way because I was having issues with the advanced partition menu on the boot CD so just went ahead and followed the KISS method by unplugging the Windows drive.
I was told by a friend that if I put my Ubuntu drive into the first position in my boot order and the Windows drive in the second, then I could boot into Ubuntu and run a GRUB update command (he told me to google it) and that would create the necessary GRUB that had the entries for Windows 7 and Ubuntu.Both operating systems are 64-bit, I imagine that might make a difference in whatever help you guys can offer me. I love the hell out of both OS's and want to be able to use them interchangeably.
I've recently made clean install to Lucid, and now Boot splash doesn't appear at start up. Only black screen appears and after that login window comes. However, boot-splash appears at shut-down and also in LiveCD.

I have Ubuntu 10.10 with timeoutd-1.5-10.1ubuntu1 installed. It used to work up until a couple of weeks ago. The /etc/rc*.d/S20timeoutd pointers are there, but timeoutd does not show in ps aux|grep timeoutd after a boot. Neither dmesg nor syslog show any sign of an attempted start-up or a failure.
If I manually /etc/init.d/timeoutd start it does run and do it's job. Unfortunately our teenager has discovered that a reboot makes it go away.
I've created a custom Lucid installation using debootstrap, it works nice but have some problems, one of them is plymouth: it does not show the splash screen, when booting, I can only see a black screen, suddenly a green one and again black, when it is about to boot, some text messages appear and then the system starts. I'm only using X, no window manager, so I edited /etc/init/plymouth.conf and changed the start instruction from:

But it remains the same, Plymouth does not show the splash screen.
I use release 11.2 and this one works very well. I try new release 11.3 and my system crash when I wont to start system on runlevel 5. There is Sempron 2 GHz CPU and nvidia fx550 graphics card. Keyboard PS2 does not responds but mouse on USB work well. When I start "safe" boot option system work well. What I can to do ? What I must change

Not only that, when I tried to fix it I managed corrupt the dual boot I had and now cannot login into either Windows 7 or Ubuntu (besides the USB tryout version which I'm currently on now.I'll try and describe what happened in the beginning. I was rushing to get to class so I needed to shut down my Ubuntu system quickly. The quickest way was to obviously hold down the off button however later when I got home to finish off my uni assignment I couldn't boot into linux! I just get a dos command line with the word grub on it.However not only did it not fix my problem I now can't boot into anything except from this Ubuntu Live CD.
