Networking :: Networkmanager Does Not Save Wireless Passwords

Jul 11, 2011

I am using gnome's nm-applet as the client for NetworkManager. However, it seems that nm-applet will not save network passwords, so I have to retype the password on each connection. I already have gnome-keyring installed, so I'm not sure what the issue could be. I read online somewhere that secrets are retrieved through polkit or something, but I am completely unfamiliar with polkit and such.

Software :: Wanting Firefox To Save Passwords Again?

Sep 14, 2009

Whenever I log into a site for the first time I always tell Firefox to save my passwordThis is very convenient. Along time ago, however, when I first started using this feature I sometimes clicked "Never save the password for this site" and consequently some of the sites which I most frequently visit still need me to manually input the password. How can I tell Firefox I want it to save the passwords for these sites now? I cleared everything in the "Preferences >> Security >> Exceptions" menu but that did not fix the problem. I don't want to just delete my profile because I have about a years worth of passwords and bookmarks and whatnot that I don't want to redo.

Ubuntu :: How To *export* Passwords From Firefox For Save Storage

Jun 24, 2010

How do I, the rightful creater and owner of the Firefox master-password, convince Firefox to release my passwords to me? I'm aware that Firefox stores website-passwords in the personal information manager, and that I am able to view these after unlocking them with the master-password and export them with the profile info export function. However, I collect all my passwords and encrypt them with a very strong key for storage outside my PC.

Ubuntu :: Xrandr Doesn't Save Changes - How To Make It To Save Changes

Jun 16, 2010

my mediacenter is attached to an beamer with the optimal resolution of 1280*720 ubuntu 10.04 doesnt offer me this revolution (on my intel 915 graphis controller). this means i have to add this resolution to the possible resolutions. first i used cvt

Code:

cvt 1280 720 60

and got this result:

Quote:

# 1280x720 59.86 Hz (CVT 0.92M9) hsync: 44.77 kHz; pclk: 74.50 MHz
Modeline "1280x720_60.00" 74.50 1280 1344 1472 1664 720 723 728 748 -hsync +vsync

then i added this to xrandr

Code:

xrandr --verbose --newmode "1280x720" 74.50 1280 1344 1472 1664 720 723 728 748 -hsync +vsync

and

Code:

xrandr --verbose --addmode VGA1 1280x720

now i can select and use the new resolution - until next reboot. after an reboot 1280x720 is again not available. even if i work with sudo - the resolution isnt there....

Debian Configuration :: Root Doesn't Have Permission To Change Passwords

Jun 19, 2014

I installed Debian Kit on my Asus Nexus 7 tablet, and after following the installation tutorial I got it running except for I'm stuck on the step to create a new user. (btw link: [URL] .... )

Here's how it went (I can't copy&paste from my tablet so I have to type out everything...):

Code: Select allroot@android-6c40984c21c156ae:/# adduser paul374
Adding user `paul374' ...
Adding new group `paul374' (5000) ...
Adding new user `paul374' (5000) with group `paul374' ...
Creating home directory `/home/paul374' ...

[Code] ....

So since I read somewhere that selinux had some permission problem, so I did a few chcons:

Code: Select allchcon --user=u --role=r --type=init --range=s0 /etc/passwd
chcon --user=u --role=r --type=init --range=s0 /etc/shadow
chcon --user=u --role=r --type=init --range=s0 /etc/gshadow

And it did take effect:

Code: Select allroot@android-6c40984c21c156ae:/# ls -Z | grep passwd
            u:r:init:s0 passwd
u:object_r:unlabeled:s0 passwd-
root@android-6c40984c21c156ae:/# ls -Z | grep shadow
            u:r:init:s0 gshadow
u:object_r:unlabeled:s0 gshadow-
            u:r:init:s0 shadow
u:object_r:unlabeled:s0 shadow-

...but still same thing as what happened in the beginning...

Anyway my goal is to create and be able to log in to another user so that I'm not stuck running root all the time. (Which, as we all know, is a bad idea.)

If there's a way to manually create the user by editing a few files, and root still won't be able to change passwords, I'm fine with that, as long as I have another user. Whatever it takes to just get a non-root user log-in-able...

I forgot to mention that since this is the Asus Nexus 7, there is no removable media, so chrooting from another Linux machine isn't an option, and neither is removing an SD card to use a LiveCD on it.

General :: Save Iptables When Iptables-save Doesn't Exist?

Apr 14, 2011

I'm working on a Soekris net4801 that is running an unknown distro of Linux. The kernel is 2.4.29, and iptables is v1.3.4.

I can't work out how to save the iptables. I searched the whole system for files/folders containing the name "iptables" and got 3 results:

/user/local/lib/iptables
/sbin/iptables
/lib/iptables

I've tried iptables save, iptables-save and iptables save active.

"iptables save" and "iptables save active" give me an invalid argument error. "iptables-save" isn't a valid command. "iptables --help" gives me a list of valid switches, none of which have to do with saving.

how I can save the iptables?

2) Is there an instrument to make a complete system roll-back to some time point?

OpenSUSE :: Dolphin Compress Menu Doesn't Work Anymore?

Feb 12, 2011

I've just noticed my Dolphin compress service menu doesn't compress anything except for '*.zip'. It used to compress '*.tar.gz' and '*tar.bz2' but now none of these work, and the bz2 option is gone altogether.Does anyone know what might have happened?I have openSUSE 11.3 & KDE 4.6, but this happened before I upgraded to KDE4.6 just a few days ago, so it's not KDE4.6 related, maybe 4.5? maybe Dolphin?I also tried to install the extract/compress plugin but it says "Could not find program 'compress_TARBZ2.sh'" which all are in my /bin folder. I also checked I have all the extract/compress file installed: zip, tar, gzip, bzip and so on.I also tried 'Compress to...' which open Ark, then I selected either 'gz' or 'bz' and still nothing happened.

OpenSUSE Install :: Dolphin Doesn't See And Hard Disks Other Than The Root Hdd

Jan 31, 2011

I have a brand new install of 11.3, with all the updates, on a cleaned system, following some hdd and cable problems.

So far three problems have surfaced:-

1. Dolphin doesn't see and hard disks other than the root hdd. They appear on the left side in the list, but cannot be accessed as suse seems to have chosen not to mount them.I need them because they have my backup data on them.

2. At each bootup, I have manually to reset the required screen resolution. I need to prevent it defaulting to the wrong resolution every time.

3. I cannot now see my Windows workgroup at all. This is in stark contrast to another distro I've tried which found it and set everything up automatically. The workgroup has one WinXP machine on cable via a router, plus one Win7 machine via router and wifi link. I guessit failed to sort out smb.conf or something?

Ubuntu :: Music File Information Editing Doesn't Save

Apr 5, 2010

I have some japanese music files stored on a flash drive that the titles of which are in japanese originally. While in the flash drive, when I go to Properties -> Audio, the title is written in japanese. It does not allow me to edit the file, no matter what permissions I have on it, therefore I can't change the name to english. So, I tried Rhythmbox instead, and transfered the file there. I could change the name, however there is STILL a huge problem.

I have around 300 japanese music files, all of which have to be renamed into english.
I did all this for all of them in Rhythmbox, and clicked "quit" when I was done. When I came back to transfer the files to my MP3 player like usual, I opened Rhythmbox, and...

ALL OF THE FILES WERE STILL IN JAPANESE! It didn't save any of the work I did on editing them. But, I calmed down and thought "oh, you can save playlists! I am sure that if I save them on one, it will keep the edits!" I did this, and it saved nothing. It took me 2 hours to finish the renaming, just to find out that it can't save information edits at all.

General :: System Crash Doesn't Save Info To Kern.log

Jul 23, 2010

I am currently creating a usb device driver consisting of mostly read and write commands. It can successfully read/write using the bulk endpoints, however reading from the interrupt endpoint causes a system crash. As the crash happens whilst writing to kern.log, the file doesn't get a chance to close, therefore done of my debug printk calls are saved. Also, I get know response from using the magic sysrq key.

Does anyone have an ideas on how I can get any system information about what's causing the crash, or possible causes of the crash. (Using a usb sniffer running on another pc, I can see that the packet is coming in from the interrupt endpoint).
