I want to be able to view KDE's Start Menu. Something went wrong with my distribution and I'm unable to open the start menu but am wondering if there's a way I can view the start menu from Dolphin. If possible I want to make note of what programs to install since I plan on doing a fresh install of a new distro.

i have java app. i want make my Linux dedicated to that application.such that,when Linux load it start the app, start menu have Shutdown,reboot and my application luncher, only one window , desktop right-click also have the same menu-items as start-menu.
View 3 Replies View Relatedmy context menu in dolphin/konquerer is very slow -- 2-3 seconds to pop up.I have a dual core 1.4ghz pc, so pc speed is not an issue.My cpu pins during the delay that the context menu takes to pop up. I ran valgrind --tool=callgrind dolphin and attached the two files that it produced.I viewed them in kcachegrind but i dont know what to make of the data.

I have about a dozen window managers installed, and just to test the new KDE 4.4 update I used kde for one day (use gnome mostly) and now the gnome places menu opens up the kde file manager dolphin instead of nautilus. How can I change it. It doesn't even appear in the edit menus item on right clicking the menu.

It used to compress '*.tar.gz' and '*tar.bz2' but now none of these work, and the bz2 option is gone altogether.Does anyone know what might have happened?I have openSUSE 11.3 & KDE 4.6, but this happened before I upgraded to KDE4.6 just a few days ago, so it's not KDE4.6 related, maybe 4.5? maybe Dolphin?I also tried to install the extract/compress plugin but it says "Could not find program 'compress_TARBZ2.sh'" which all are in my /bin folder. View 9 Replies View RelatedIn Dolphin, when right clicking for context menu, my "Open with" list is trashed with multiple entries, that also contain old applications that I no longer have (or even had?). Just for example: for pdfs I have 3 Acrobat Readers, 2 FoxitReaders, 2 okulars, 2 GIMPs (?) etc. Same for other file types. How to clean it? I absolutely don't mind wiping it completely, so that it all goes back to default values. Configuring it anew is much better than having this list bother me every time I use a right click. I'm on 10.10 now, upgraded from 10.04. I've been using my home folder for like ever, without cleaning it, which is probably the source of the issue.
View 2 Replies View RelatedThe package manager runs when a user clicks on a .rpm file automatically. I tried clicking on it from a normal user dolphin window and it opened up but since it can't install to a /something directory, I had to run it as su. So I try to open dolphin as su and then click on my file. I see the package editor starting up (bouncy icon and a space in the panel) but it never actually pops up a window. Now when I click on the file from either user this is happening. What's going on? Is this a bug?
**update, it popped up from normal user after like 10x attempts and it said that the repository already exists and this is an unexpected error. what does that mean? what errors are "expected"?

I changed the kde desktop layout to Search and Launch on an 11.3 64-bit machine and lost the ability to bring up a right-click menu on the desktop, also tried it on an 11.3 32 bit machine and experienced the exact same thing how I can solve this even if it means reverting to the default layout? I suppose I could delete and re-create the user's /home but I'm wondering if there's a way to solve this without resorting to that On the one machine I've put 11.4 on so far it's using the search and launch layout with absolutely no problems at all and finding it very handy
the 11.4 machine I'm using this layout on actually logs onto the 11.3 64 bit machine I first had the problem with via nis and an nfs /home export For the user it's working fine under I set the search and launch layout from the 11.4 machine, the user I'm getting the problem with on the 64-bit machine (nis/nfs server) was set on the server itself. The 11.3 32 bit machine however, I disabled nis and nfs so that it would use local logons and /home only so it seems to be an issue with 11.3 itself and regardless of cpu architecture

It then finished the installation.
But when i click on the icon in the start menu or on desktop it fails to start, when i also click on a .pdf document it also fails to start!
Anyone else seeing Dolphin's Context Menu on a file, Actions -> Preview This File not working for them?

I am using openSUSE KDE 4.
So I want to get mount/umount option under right click services menu. I went to Dolphin -> Settings -> Configure Dolphin -> Services -> Download New Services and from there I installed KDE CDEmu Emulator and MountISO. But neither of them is showing up in actual context menu. Neither in Dolphin -> Settings -> Configure Dolphin -> Services for that matter. I tried to install them as normal user and as a root. I went to have a peak in /usr/share/kde4/services/ServiceMenus/ but they aren't there as well... It's just me or lots of things seems to be not quite working in 11.3?

I click Places -> Home Folder (or any of the other folders, including Computer), and the cursor turns to the spinning "wait" dial, but the folder won't appear. A tab appears in the bottom panel, with the title "opening ZenBeam" (or "opening Desktop" or "Starting Computer", depending on which folder I tried to open) for a few seconds, but then goes away. Left- or Right-clicking on these tabs doesn't give me any options.
This used to work normally, but stopped suddenly a few days ago, following a reboot. I'm guessing it's become corrupted, but I don't know what "it" is. I can navigate in a command line window normally.I have rebooted, and I have run System -> Administration -> Software Update, but that didn't fix the problem.I was going to add the information in System -> About This Computer, but that seems to be having the same problem.What can I do to fix this? What application is failing to run?
I am wondering how you can change the view of the classic GNOME menu (Applications | Places | System) in 11.3 to the "classic" view (like in Fedora)? The Applications menu has to much sub-menus. I prefer it flat. The nautilus bookmarks are not directly accessible in Places either, which is not really comfortable.

Gnome comes with Vino Remote Desktop as part of it's package. I want Vino to run at boot so that I can login remotely. I am using VNC-4.1.3 for remote viewing. However, I can only view remotely once I have logged-in locally.
Yesterday I burnt a couple of CD's with Brasero. Project completed successfully. But.. now if I try and open Nautilus and go to any of my folders under Places>Home/Music/Documents, in fact anywhere, it goes straight into Brasero and seems to think I have an uncompleted project. There is also a box open which promts me to rename/not rename for full Windows or Linux comaptabilty. As of right now I cant get rid of Brasero and get to any folders/files.
