I own an EeePC 701; right now I'm giving 10.04.1 a test run on it, using a live usb.
The EeePC has an Atheros wireless card, but live Lucid doesn't detect it. Here's the output from a ifconfig command:

Will the card be detected by a properly-installed Lucid? Is there some package I need to install so I can use wireless? Or should I steer clear of installing Lucid on my EeePC?
Since I have upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx, my second graphics card isn't detected by X server. When I do an lspci I get both listed though. I am using NVidia's driver v195.36.24

so, when i first got my laptop it came with vista and the ethernet worked fine, then when I decided to install Karmic about 9 months ago it still worked fine. After a while the update for lucid came out so I upgraded to that and then the ethernet started getting buggy. It would only work about half the time that i wanted it too and the other half of the time it would just stare at me and not move anywhere. So along with a couple other bugs I decided to format my harddrive and downgrade back to karmic and await the 10.10 release. unfortunatly my ethernet woes carried with me and they still would only show up on occasion. then about half way through my time with karmic round 2 it stopped altogether, and with the upgrade back to lucid it hasn't seemed to solve itself.
I ran through ifconfig -a, lspci and sudo ifup -a but they all tell me that the device doesn't exist.
I have a Toshiba Satellite L550 laptop with Suse 11.3 dual booting with Windows 7. Windows can detect the built in wireless card but not Suse, what can I do to get the wireless recognized in Suse.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am trying to install Debian Lenny (64 bit) on my brand new Toshiba laptop (intel i3, 3 GB RAM) and for some reason the installer cannot detect the ethernet card. This is the error message I get:"No Ethernet card was detected. If you know the name of the driver needed by your Ethernet card, you can select it from the list."And then there's a list which is quite long -- and I cannot replicate it here. But I want to know why the installer cannot find the ethernet card on its own or find the appropriate driver. In any case how can I fix this problem?

It isn't even detecting the wireless card, and the network manager will only let me connect to wired networks (I'm connected to my router via ethernet cable right now).
I've pressed the LED killswitch but it does nothing (doesn't change from orange to blue nor does it have any noticeable effect on the network manager or the reports of the above 2 commands).
I just installed x64 Fedora, and as the title says, NM fails to detect my WiFi card. It's an Encore ENLWI-N with a RaLink RT2800 chipset. The card does show up when I run lspci, although iwconfig yields nothing.Not sure if this helps, but when Ias running Karmic Koala, Ubuntu detected the card immediately and required no configuration

View 9 Replies View Relatedi'm using a dell n5010 recently i installed ubuntu9.10 in my laptop and it doesn't seem to detect wireless connections, so, i googled it and downloaded a driver from broadcom and tried to install it as per the authors instructions and nothing seems to work well, the broadcom drivers are not detected in the additional drivers and when i try to install linux-wlan-ng tarballs it doesn't seem to work even, though i have gcc(i think thats it), so, i installed my windows driver through nsdgtk but it says that it is "unable to see if hardware is present" but, when i click ok on the error the wireless network applet says the hardware is present and when i click the network configuration tool it gives the error message "could not find a network configuration tool" and after configuring my network with network tools in administration it says "no wireless extensions" when i type 'iwconfig' and there is no ip address when i type "ipconfig".

I do have a bit of history behind this card that might help to solve this problem. Moreover, when I look into hardinfo->network->interfaces I only find the wired connection. View 8 Replies View RelatedI started on ubuntu 8.10 and my wireless card has always worked,Since i did a fresh install of ubuntu 10.04 it still seems to work to a point.I can see networks, click them and use a password to connect but it never seems to carry on, I typed the password correctly and after a minute it asks for it again.I have read a post about problems other people are having and that i need to install a different program.But i cant install another program if there is no wireless as apt-get doesn't work without internet connection.So... Kernel: 2.6.38-x (Any version), and 2.6.36 and above
EDIT: Yes! Yes! I got it to work, for those that are having issues, install this packages. Disregard that it says that there is an older version available in a software. The bcmwl-kernel-source for Natty works on Lucid![URL]... Install one of these and check your Hardware Drivers, they will probably say that the Broadcom STA driver is installed but not in use. If you then proceed to restart it should be up and running, this way you can use kernels 2.6.36+ and still use the Broadcom STA driver!
Could anybody confirm that the D-LINK DWA-556 wireless N PCI-E network card works with Lucid Lynx 64 bit? Im looking for a reliable wireless network card that if possible works out of the box on Lucid 64 bit, so far my search has lead me to the above card, If anyone has hands on experience of this card on lucid 64
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron 1545 running Windows 7 64-bit. It has a Dell 1397 Wireless card with Broadcom BCM 4312 hardware. This is proven by running lspci in Terminal. I downloaded Ubuntu 9.10 64-bit and burned a disc of it. I used System>Administration>USB Startup Disc Creator to make a Live USB from a 4GB flash drive. I plugged it in and my computer booted into Ubuntu with no trouble. The only problem is that I can't connect to my wireless network. The problem is that no matter how I install the Broadcom STA driver, it just says that the driver is activated but not actively in use. I've used Synaptic Package Manager, Jockey, and even Terminal. I've tried running

Just installed Karmic Koala on my Intel Macbook via Virtualbox and cannot get wireless working. Previously did this with 9.04 and everything worked. Do I need to use ndiswrapper? I don't remember having to do that before.
