OpenSUSE Wireless :: Device Is An Integrated Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card

My wireless device is an integrated Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card, I am unsure about the driver I have in use. I am sure I have a driver installed because the configuration screen shows my network. I currently have the computer plugged into my network via CAT 5 but I would like to be able to use the wireless (obviously.) I am using Open SuSE version 11.2 and I have run the updater. I could not see my wireless network before running the updater and I can now so I know that the updates have helped but I am again stuck. I have tried to search the wireless forum and I have tried to tinker with the settings in YaST , but nothing seems to be working. Reading the Welcome page of the wireless forum, I tried the Broadcom chip-set advice:

I have read and taken to heart the advice given for receiving help and if any more is needed I will gladly give it. I have a small amount of experience with SuSE Enterprise edition so I can understand some technical stuff but I am best at following specific instructions.
My Dell Vostro 1520's Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card must not have been set-up correctly, as the Network Manager won't even let me select the wireless tab. Please just explain to me, step by step, what exactly I must do to make it work! Additionally, I can't figure out how to disable my Touchpad's Tap to Click funtionality, which must be done if I'm to effectively use my current KDE installation of openSUSE
I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop using Dell Wireless 1395 WLAN Mini-card (This is what Windows Vista says I have). I have installed Ubuntu as dual boot with existing Windows Vista. Wireless is not working in Ubuntu but working flawlessly in Windows.

I installed ubuntu 10.10 and everything worked fine for two days (and I fell in love with linux) but now I can not connect to a wireless connection. Did I mention I am new to linux and have been working on this problem for a couple of days. My wireless card is 1395 WLAN Mini-Card I think I have the b43 driver installed. I have reinstalled the driver and linux but to no effect.
I just installed Fedora this evening, and to date I've been unable to get my wireless to work. I've got a Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card, and to date I've tried...I have the driver and everything, but my wireless network just refuses to show up.
I just want to report that I managed to get WLAN running on my Dell Mini 10 (Inspiron 1012) with OpenSuse 11.3 KDE. This one contains a Broadcom 4312 WLAN card
I just installed the broadcom-wl and broadcom-wl-kmp-desktop packages from the packman repository. Then there is a new entry in the bootmanager menu. Using that one, WLAN works fine.By the way: Can somebody explain me the difference between the broadcom-wl-kmp-desktop, broadcom-wl-kmp-default, broadcom-wl-kmp-pae, broadcom-wl-kmp-xen packages? I did not find any documentation about that.
I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 computer. I boot into Ubuntu with a flash drive. When I boot, I cannot connect to a wireless network. No available networks are displayed (and I know my router is on) and the Network Manager icon displays no bars. I suspect that the Dell Wireless card (having a Broadcom BCM-4312 chipset) needs a driver. I have tried to intstall both of the restricted drivers (BCM STA and 43xx drivers), but with no success. I have run lspci in Terminal, and got many lines of text. Here are the lines that look relevant to me:

In Ubuntu, my wired connection works like a charm, but is not really accessible. Basically, I have to connect to wireless in Ubuntu or I have no reason for having it.
I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 running Windows 7 64-bit. It has a Dell 1397 Wireless card with Broadcom BCM 4312 hardware. This is proven by running lspci in Terminal. I downloaded Ubuntu 9.10 64-bit and burned a disc of it. I used System>Administration>USB Startup Disc Creator to make a Live USB from a 4GB flash drive. I plugged it in and my computer booted into Ubuntu with no trouble. The only problem is that I can't connect to my wireless network. The problem is that no matter how I install the Broadcom STA driver, it just says that the driver is activated but not actively in use. I've used Synaptic Package Manager, Jockey, and even Terminal. I've tried running Code: sudo modprobe wl in Terminal, but nothing seems to happen. In Ubuntu, my computer acts as though it has no wireless card, but the wired connection is fine (except for the inconvenience of connecting with a cable). In Windows 7, the wireless connection is fine.
Inspiron 1525 - Wireless 1395 WLAN Mini-Card I passed two days browsing the net looking for a solution to my problem but no way.. I can't get WLAN up on my Dell Mini 10v (BCM 4312)/openSUSE 11.3/LXDE. And yes, I have thoroughly read iwfingers's 'Getting your Wireless to Work'. After installing openSUSE 11.3 ifconfig can see eth0, l0 and wlan0. No WLAN running. dsmesq|grep firmware prompts me to '/usr/sbin/install_bcm43xx_firmware"
After having done that and reboot ifconfig can only see eth0 and l0. Installing broadcom-wl-5.60.48.36-7.pm.16.4.i586.rpm broadcom-wl-kmp-default-5.60.48.36_k2.6.34.0_12-7.pm.16.4.i586.rpm (current ones from Packman) does, Shall I try to install the drivers without installing the firmware first?
Why does broadcom-wl-kmp-default-5.60.48.36_k2.6.34.0_12-7.pm.16.4.i586.rpm install a new default kernel? Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.04 had no problems with WLAN.
I'm having problems with wifi on my Dell Inspiron 1501. According to the specifications, it has a "Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN MiniCard". I could not activate the device. I have installed openSUSE 11.4 with GNOME.
just installed opensuse 11.3 on my asus eee pc 1018p and have severe problems to make the wireless network card work. tried to install the driver with ndiswrapper and b43-cutter, but without any success. ifconfig does not show any wlan0 device. below find output of

installed opensuse on several notebooks/netbooks before but never ran into serious trouble.
i installed suse (KDE) on my old notebook and now I'm trying to get the wlan to connect to our router and can't figure out how to get it to work. My card seems to work, the network manager even finds the router, but i just cant get a connection. I followed the steps of the "Getting Your Wireless to Work" thread and these are the results:

I wiped and loaded my mini. ran the ubuntu 10.04.. had to run hardware drivers twice to finally get reference to broadcom and then wireless came on!! Hurray! however (yes, dhcp).. no dns on wireless but on eth0 no problem everything shows up ip, dns.. works fine.. go to wireless it connects, gets ip but in connection information no dns servers listed
I have just installed openSuse 11.4 KDE 64-bit on a Dell M1330. When I click on my networking panel, it says WLAN interface is unavailable. I've followed the steps in the stickied post and found the WLAN hardware info, a screenshot of which is below:Uploaded with ImageShack.usNext it says to do this - you need to look at the logs, in particular the info in /var/log/boot.msg. To see this, you need YaST => Miscellaneous => System Logs and select boot.msg.In YaST there is no such option for system logs under miscellaneous, so I can't do that. I recently installed Ubuntu Netbook Remix on my Dell Inspiron Mini 10, and for some reason it isn't detecting any wireless networks. The wireless works perfectly fine when I boot to Windows XP on the netbook, but not when I'm using Ubuntu. I tried troubleshooting using this htmlAt the "check for device recognition" step, the terminal tells me that it's disabled, but as far as I can tell there isn't a physical switch that allows me to turn the wireless on or off, and again, it works perfectly fine when I use XP. What should I do?
I'm running fedora 9 and I'm trying to install the linux-wlan-ng drivers for my wireless old school device. Has anybody ever had any luck installing this on an i686 architecture?
I am using a dell laptop which has Dell 1397 802.11B/G Wireless Mini Card. I not able to connect to internet and was not able to detect what actual problem is weather card is not supported (i.e. drivers are not available) .
Also, if any one can point to exact process to connect to wireless Lan using fedora12.
The funny thing is that it works fine in a Fedora installation, which has an older kernel and older drivers, on the same laptop. The fact that the indicator light doesn't come in when the physical switch is turned on suggests it's something to do with that switch.

I use it on a Dell Inspiron Mini 9 netbook (that boots Mac OS X from its SSD). An ubuntu persistent liveusb works just great for occasional linux development and testing, but ubuntu 9.10 will be EOL next year, and I want to stay current.

After I've booted the liveusb, under the network menu I see this:

A menu appears that looks like a PCI card with a lock on it. I select the only item under that menu, "Install Drivers". This gives a dialog that says "No proprietary drivers are in use on this system. Proprietary drivers do not have public source code..." etc. Under Ubuntu 9.10, I could at this point select "Broadcom STA wireless driver" and click the "Activate" button, and it would work. So I did that in 10.04.1.
It says, "Downloading and installing driver..."
While it's doing this, the "kerneloops" menu item appears. Then a dialog that says,
Sorry, the package "bcmwl-kernel-source 5.60.48.36 +bdcom-0ubuntu3" failed to install or upgrade.
Then another dialog that says
SystemError: installArchives() failed.
What the heck is happening here?
Well, it turns out that the error messages are wrong. I restarted and the DM9/ubuntu 10.04.1 was able to connect to the wireless network.
tl;dr: Proprietary wireless driver installation works, but it claims that it doesn't.
Been using Ubuntu for 1 yr now on my Dell Dimension 8250 but a newbie with my Averatec AV3270-EH1 laptop circa 2005. Ubuntu 10.04 does not detect the Integrated WLAN card/adapter. I've looked at all the forums/posts but none had the issue I have. When I type lspci into the terminal i get this back:
