OpenSUSE Wireless :: Atheros Ar2427, Can Scan For Wifi, But Cannot Connect?
Oct 29, 2010
I have an Atheros ar2427 chip in my Asus EEE 1001P and I'm using WICD to configure it. I can scan for wlans, but I can not connect. I installed the compat wireless package from yast and I downloaded the source from the compat wireless site and tried to compile it (which seems to be the solution for Ubuntu) but I got an error and an interesting warning
I just installed OpenSuSE 11.3 x86_64, and as I'm new to OpenSuSE I can't get my wireless to work. I believe it should work because it worked out of the box in Ubuntu (9.10 and 10.04)
At first I didn't see any network icon in the notification area, but after some googling figured out to enable NetworkManager instead of ifup. Now there is an icon, and clicking it I can see wireless networks, but when I try to connect it tries for a while, then seems to give up.
So I decided to wipe out Windows and try Slitaz. It's an awesome well featured distro for it's size. One huge problem tho: I can't get wireless to work for the life of me. I actually went as far as to manually load the ath5k module but It just refuses to recognize my wireless router, much less any nearby routers. It simply doesn't see anything when it scans for wireless networks. I have no problem with that in Puppy Lucid. But I'd really like to use Slitaz, just for it's small size and quick bootup. Can anyone PLEASE help me with that?
PS: It happened here before that I had to plea and beg for any response, so PLEASE(!!) don't let me hang like that this time.
i am running on suse 11.3 on a laptop i missing the wireless under network it said not connected i done everything that is writte n i have acer aspire 5742 intel core i3 370m
After having scoured the internet and the forums for advice, I am still not able to connect via Wireless, which is being controlled by Network Manager. The following is info I obtained from running a script that I obtained reading these forums:
* Hostname: linux-8qpz.site * Run date and time: Sun Oct 24 10:12:58 EDT 2010 ---------------------------------------------------
Im a Linux newbie and am running OpenSuse 11.3 (Gnome, 2.6.34.7-0.5-desktop Kernel) and Ive an Asus N13 wifi dongle (linux compatible). I currently connect using my laptopś internal wifi but I bought the dongle due to trouble with weak signal. It came with some sort of code that can be "compiled" but I havent got a clue how to do that (and I have been researching this matter for quite some time now). I then came across a post where someone with the same USB stick created and added only two small files to his filesystem and it worked...for him (maybe becasuse he was on a different Distro )
Ralink RT2870 USB Stick and created the two files mentioned in the post (network_drivers.rules and network_drivers.conf) and placed them in ETC... etc, etc! I rebooted the system but NetworkManager only lists it as "device not ready" ... So now back to square one.
wifi card:atheros ar5007egOS: openSUSE11.4My laptop can't connect on network after system hibernate. It has been asking me for enter the wifi password. But when I input the wifi password it still can't connect on network. I have to reboot it.
I installed squeeze on my eeepc 1015ped and downloaded the correct firmware-brcm80211 drivers but every time I scan for my network using iwconfig wlan0 scan or wicd, my computer completely freezes. I previously had a solid install running xmonad, and wicd was working like a charm (using the same broadcom driver) but i tinkered too much with it and decided to do a fresh install. I haven't quite run into a problem like this before.
I recently got a lenovo w510 laptop and I installed openSUSE 11.3 KDE on it. the wireless works fine at home (802.11g WPA2) when I go to work I have tried to set up the wifi for the 802.1X PEAP network but it doesn't look like it even tries to connect.
The work network set up is as follows. non-brodcasting SSID (do I need to tell network manager of this? I manually enter the SSID no problem)
Dynamic WEP 802.1X PEAP blank anonymous identity no CA cert (I suspect this might be the problem) PEAP v 1 MSCHAPv2
I have verified my username and pw several times, as well as the SSID. Just yesterday I helped a co-worker get on the network under ubuntu and it worked like a charm.
The Hardware profile displays the wifi card as a "WiFi Link 6000 Series" It is an intel card.
I moved to Berlin recently and I got wireless internet through an access point. I'm supposed to use the laptop's built-in wireless netcard to access the internet. This usually works in windows (connection falls out from time to time), but I have yet to make it work in linux. I'm using OpenSuse 11.3 64-bit and the Knetwork manager. Most of the settings in the network manager are correct, but it keeps wanting to use system certificates for the server. By that I mean it keeps checking 'Use CA System certificates'.
So I can't choose the CA-certificate supplied by my internet provider. I keep removing the check-mark and pointing it to the 'hotzoneCA.der' certificate. I also got a 'personal' certificate, in lack of a better word. Its called 'jacob_collstrup.p12'. The Knetwork manager seems to accept the 'jacob_collstrup.p12' certificate, but not the other one.
I just put the certificates in a folder like this /jacob/home/hotzone/zertifikate/ I can see the network fine using the Knetwork manager, and the signal strength seems ok. Not too good, but it shouldn't be a problem. I might have messed up the system, since I first tried this guide, prior to experimenting with Knetwork Manager:
1. (had to run this one as su) Code: wpa_supplicant -w -i wlan0 -c /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf -Dndiswrapper -dd t 2. (This was supposed to be put in a wpa_supplicant.conf file) Code: ctrl_interface=/var/run/wpa_supplicant ctrl_interface_group=0 opensc_engine_path=/usr/lib/opensc/engine_opensc.so pkcs11_engine_path=/usr/lib/opensc/engine_pkcs11.so pkcs11_module_path=/usr/lib/pkcs11/opensc-pkcs11.so
I've installed it no problems on my desktop and I really love it. Now I'm trying to install it on my Satellite and I'm having a couple of problems. When trying to connect to my wireless network, I can see my network, but it will just keep asking me for my WEP. I've confirmed that there is nothing wrong with the network or the password I've provided. Sometimes when I boot up, the network manager just says that the wireless networks are disconnected and can't find any. The wired connection always works just fine.
I have only had a few weeks worth of experience with linux, so I'm probably considered a newbie at this but I felt like giving it a shot. I just configured my new Toshiba Satellite A505-S6969 to jaunty. Most of the transition is going well but I'm stuck with a few issues, one of which is getting my wifi to work. Right now I'm working off of an ethernet cable.spci returns

I have a Samsung N150 netbook with Atheros AR 9285 WiFi card. I installed Ubuntu 9.10 on it, although this problem happens on other distros too (Network Remix 9.10, OpenSuse 11.2) My wifi card and networks get detected. The problem is when I try to connect to my network, which is protected by WPA key (I don't know if it matters whether it's WPA or not). After I input my network key, the network manager is trying to connect, but obviously cannot, because just prompts me for password again. I can connect without problems to this network from my other computer running WinXP
I have a Acer Revo R3610 nettop on which I installed oS11.3. It has an Atheros AR5001 wireless network adaptor.I'm getting very bad latency and throughput on with this card. In comparison my Thinkpad with Intel card achieves at least 10 times the throughput from the same location. Also when I boot my wifi will come up authenticate and then a few seconds later disconnect and reconnect. I've tried updating the kernel to 2.6.35 as one of the fixes was to improve the performance of the ath5k driver. I'm using wpa2 authentication.
Is there anything else I paste that will help determine the cause of the bad throughput. Browsing the web or copying files across the network is bordering unusable.

Tried to install all the patches.
5 ) any trouble-shooting guide you have tried to follow. - The previous two stickies
6 ) openSUSE version 11.3
7 ) type /sbin/lspci -v" in a terminal; copy and paste the section that identifies your wireless card and it's chipset. 07:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR5001 Wireless Network Adapter (rev 01)

A wifi card with the ath5k driver used to work properly until a couple of weeks ago. Now, if I ping the router the response times sometimes are okay but often fluctuate into the range of many hundreds or thousands of milliseconds. Occasionally the connection breaks down entirely. My laptop, which uses a different card, works fine (typical ping response times of 2 ms), so its probably not the router which is faulty.I use opensuse 11.3 x86_64, currently with the 2.6.34.7-0.7 desktop kernel and knetworkmanager
I have configured a wireless pcmcia card using ndiswrapper. I'm sure that works, as with the command "iwlist wlan0 scan" gives me back the list of detected wireless networks. At this point I was wondering: is there a way to detect the new interface (wlan0) with network manager? Even after enabling the wifi card the network manager gnome applet always finds only eth0.
Cannot Connect to a wireless network using a USB Belkin 802.11g Model F5D7050: Setting up a new pc is running opensuse 11.2 (i586) KDE 4.3.1
Question1) The HCL shows a version, how do I find what version i have? Question2) Why is rt73.bin not being loaded? I ask this because the file is located in Root/lib/firmware Question3) Why is Configure Desktop > Network Manager > Wifi is blanked out as if doesnt exist?
Question 4) when using YAST > Network Settings > Initially under wireless network card configuration I can scan the area and find networks successfully (I got 2, one as a wifii hotspot from my pda cell phone, the other is the standard wireless network for laptops and such).... but if i use kinternet >wlan0 > wireless connection, nothing will be found! I did a search on the /var/bootlog msg for "switch" and "radio", for radio I found the following:
<6>[ 9.108858] Registered led device: rt73usb-phy1::radio <6>[ 9.108884] Registered led device: rt73usb-phy1::assoc <6>[ 9.108909] Registered led device: rt73usb-phy1::quality <6>[ 9.109386] usbcore: registered new interface driver rt73usb [Code].....
This is probably the 1 millionth post about WIFI issues. I have tried many sources on the internet but cant get my wireless to work. I have been using another version of linux for long time. But recent edition of that particular linux does not support my wifi any more. Just recently i have tried SuSE and almost fell in love with it. The only problem, WIFI.
I got a Linksys WUSB54GC USB wifi stick which uses RT2800USB native driver. I installed SuSE from the scratch and it found the wifi stick installed the drivers. My only problem is it does not scan for wireless networks. I haev two wifi networks around here. I can connect to them with windows computer with the same wifi stick.
I have tried iwconfig iwlist ifup but i am stuck exactly what to do.
Using an old (5 year) laptop with XP loaded I installed wubi to save altering partitions etc. It all downloaded fine and connected to the internet by wire. I set up the wireless connection using WPA but could not connect. The wirelsss card does see my network and others. After lurking around the forum and trying various things I found that I could connect without encryption. The more I read the more I became confused. Anyway what I could glean about my Wireless Card it is a Intersil Prism2 mini usb adapter - but also shows up as an Acer ?? Warplink 802.11.
Using lshw I found this reference to wireless
I became even more confused and got a bit lost using the various codes in the terminal and looking up things about drivers etc but would like to persist.
I've configured the device for my network's settings in YaST's Network Settings tool. Is the card turned off by the kill switch? Where do I find the kill switch?
Code: 03:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Intel Corporation Centrino Wireless-N 1000 [8086:0083] On Fedora 15, when I boot kernel 2.6.40, my laptop is unable to connect to my wireless-G AP. dmesg shows the following: Code: [ 43.866090] wlan0: direct probe to 00:27:19:14:c2:ca (try 1/3)
[Code].....
It works fine, however, when I boot using kernel 2.6.38 (from which I am posting) and in Windows. Also, I found some emails from the linux-wireless mailing list which appear to be talking about the same problem.
The system is fully updated. I've tried the 11n_disable=1 hint I came across on the ThinkPad wiki, but it didn't help. (I'm on an Asus K42Ja, in case it's relevant)
Although I'm fine with staying at 2.6.38 for now, are there workarounds/fixes for this?
When I select the wifi icon on the panel, it just shows "No network devices available". I know my network can be found when I search with my iPhone, so I know there are networks to connect to. So, I checked the drivers, and it informs me that the B43 and STA drivers are not activated. So thats not a big deal, I guess, but when I use my ethernet cord, my laptop doesn't recognize/acknowledge (I'm not sure what the right term would be)it. I'm fairly sure I can't activate these drivers without an internet connection because when I do try, a message pops up saying "failed to fetch" with some long link.
My only guess is that it could be a hardware problem, but I really have no idea. I guess the ethernet problem is my only real problem. Because after I establish and internet connection the the rest is easy to fix.I'm sure its obvious, but I'll go ahead say that I'm a novice ubuntu user. I've only been working with it for about a week, but I'm learning alot.
I just installed 9.10 and I can't detect any wireless networks. Is the card compatible with 9.10? Do I need to install any drivers? If the card isn't compatible with 9.10 is it compatible with later versions of Ubuntu? Marking this as somewhat urgent as I need to get internet access for some coursework soon, and also because my parents will kill me if they find out I've done anything unusual with the laptop because it's new and they think anything non -MS is a virus.
