Debian :: Eeepc Wifi - Every Time Scan For Network Using Iwconfig Wlan0 Scan Or Wicd And Computer Completely Freezes

Jan 9, 2011

I installed squeeze on my eeepc 1015ped and downloaded the correct firmware-brcm80211 drivers but every time I scan for my network using iwconfig wlan0 scan or wicd, my computer completely freezes. I previously had a solid install running xmonad, and wicd was working like a charm (using the same broadcom driver) but i tinkered too much with it and decided to do a fresh install. I haven't quite run into a problem like this before.

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Iwlist Produces No Scan Result For Wlan0

Apr 29, 2010

This is probably the 1 millionth post about WIFI issues. I have tried many sources on the internet but cant get my wireless to work. I have been using another version of linux for long time. But recent edition of that particular linux does not support my wifi any more. Just recently i have tried SuSE and almost fell in love with it. The only problem, WIFI.

I got a Linksys WUSB54GC USB wifi stick which uses RT2800USB native driver. I installed SuSE from the scratch and it found the wifi stick installed the drivers. My only problem is it does not scan for wireless networks. I haev two wifi networks around here. I can connect to them with windows computer with the same wifi stick.

I have tried iwconfig iwlist ifup but i am stuck exactly what to do.

I get the following messages:

It seems to me i am sooo close.

Ubuntu :: Nautilus Clamscan File Or Folder Scan Freezes

Aug 13, 2010

I decided to check out nautilus-clamscan, in which all it does is add an option to scan the selected file or folder for viruses in the context menu, and while it works fine for some things highlighted, for some that I've randomly tried it freezes, and won't complete scanning. using the usual method of scanning for viruses through Clamtk, it scans those files and folders just fine, so it's not those themselves that's causing the freezing.

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Atheros Ar2427, Can Scan For Wifi, But Cannot Connect?

General :: Combining A Badblock Scan With A Time Output

Jul 7, 2009

I have a Lenny Raid-5 setup, and I use rsnapshot to occasionally backup the raid to an old external hard drive that I otherwise leave unplugged. That external went bad, so I figured I should setup its replacement with encryption and keep it off site when not in use.

While googling and coming across LUKS, I can across this post this post that mentioned the drive should be be filled with random data before setting it up for encryption, and had the following as a potential sufficiently-good option over the time-intensive dd /dev/random route:
badblocks -c 10240 -s -w -t random -v /dev/sdx

I was unfamiliar with badblocks, and came across this post after a google session which noted the time duration of scan is an important factor as well as the result.

I sshed into the NAS, and was about to run badblocks first in read mode, then in write mode, but then I considered the time consideration. I was going to use something similar to the following: nohup badblocksstuff &

My Question: Is there a way I can append to the resulting nohup.out a time to complete value?

Ubuntu Security :: Innocent Website Tries To 'scan' Computer / Should I Get Protection?

May 6, 2010

So I forgot how to do something in Compiz and I quickly Googled it to find the answer. On the first or second link I clicked, a pop-up box opened from Firefox saying that I should scan my computer. Immediately, I pressed the X button, but a page started to load that tried to "scan" my computer. I closed out Firefox and re-opened it. I did the exact same search again on Google, but I clicked on the cached view of the site. It was harmless enough--a blog with some ads on the side of the page. I'm assuming that it was one of the ads that somehow must have taken over the page.

Anyway, I know that the discussion of anti-virus programs is not anything new, but I would like to know if this virus may have affected Ubuntu. What would you guys recommend in this case? Also, after running the update manager, I received a pop-up box asking if I would like to update Grub. Is this a normal part of the update, or could it be a virus? I'm a bit paranoid, being from the land of Windows.

Ubuntu Networking :: HP Photosmart D110 - Message - Try Scan From Computer Or See Documentation

My computer recognizes the printer and has no trouble printing out any documents. The printer can scan papers to a memory card and makes copies just fine too. But when I select "Scan to PC" I get the message "Try scan from computer or see documentation. Press OK." Of course, the printer included next to no documentation, only the basic plug-it-in-and-turn-it-on instructions. Simple Scan said that it did not find a scanner.

OpenSUSE Network :: Cannot Scan Windows server

Jul 10, 2011

I tried to decipher the info on the opensuse site about networked scanners but it's not clear to me and I don't see anything in the forum here that addresses the question, so here goes. My PC is an opensuse 11.3 box. My Epson CX9400 is attached to a Windows 7 PC at the other end of the house.

The PC's can talk and can access shared files nicely. It will print perfectly from the Windows box or the Linux box. It will scan perfectly from the Windows box. BUT I cannot scan documents from the Linux box. Have installed XSane and Image! Scan for Linux and neither one seem to find the scanner. I tried adding it manually in YaST and it doesn't seem to find it either.

Debian :: Disabling The Nautilus File Scan?

May 18, 2010

Whenever I open a folder with the default browser (Nautilus), it does a quick scan of the contents. This is not a problem for normal folders, but it becomes one when a music folder contains several thousand files (I haven't yet tried with folders containing large amounts of non-music files). In such instances Nautilus sits there scanning and I can hear the hard drive seeking for a good while before it presents me with the contents of said folder. My music folder, for instance, contains some five thousand ogg files, and I have to wait *counts* a full minute before it displays its contents. I tried telling it to never count the number of files in the options, but it didn't help. So far, the only solution I've found is to use pcmanfm instead, which apparently does no scan and displays my music folder practically as soon as I click on it. Still, I like Nautilus more for everything else, so I'd much rather use that instead.

I had a hard time finding out how to change -- get to-- the simple scan preferences. There is no batten on the screen to open preferences window. I found two way to change the preferences on simple scan.

1. Easy way:
I found that when you run a program in gnome an icon of that application appears on top bar. If you click on that icon a window will appear and one of the items on that window is preferences, by clicking on that you could open preferences window, and change your preferences.

2. Hard way:
Go to applications and open dconf Editor
then go to org section click on it
then go to gnome section click on it
then go to Simple-Scan click on it
now you can change things
