OpenSUSE :: Wireless Adapter No Longer Detected After Kernel Upgrade / Solve This?
Aug 17, 2011
No wireless after upgrading to linux kernel 3.0 in opensuse 11.4. I'm using Kde and gnome 3, everything was working fine under the 2.6.39 kernel, but now both only detects my wired connection. Any help resolving this would be greatly appreciated. I have a Netgear WNDA3100 adapter that uses the Atheros drivers. It also is no longer detected in my Fedora 15 after upgrading the kernel, but it still works in Mint 11 with the 2.6.38.8 kernel.
I just installed Ubuntu 10.10 on my Dad's desktop. Everything was fine, but the usb wireless adapter is not being detected correctly. It's Zyxel G-220 (Verizon put it in instead of running a cable from the Vios box next room). I checked the website and it says it's supposed to "work out of the box".
I have a msi netbook with ubuntu netbook remix installed and it was working great until yesterday when suddenly it stopped detecting my home network. There are no problems on my two other machines, so I'm sure the problem is the netbook. I have no idea how to go about troubleshooting this. I was hoping someone could help me by giving me a place to start.
Can't boot after upgrade to 2.6.31-19 kernel. Boot procedure stops on "Mounting root file system..." stage with message: /init: line 218: syntax error: 0xhda1.
I am a newbie in linux and I curious to learning all about linux, but I have a little trouble. I've just installed my first linux, its Backtrack 4 and my wirelesss network adapter was not detected..please help what I'm soppost to do..i'm using HP CQ40-416AMD Turion X2Broadcom 802.11 b/g WLAN Adapternote :
I am using Ubuntu 10.04. The Tata Photon+ card Huwai EC1260 was working flawlessly. However, I recently did a firmware upgrade on the card that was provided by Tata Indicom for it to work on Windows 7.
After that, the card is no longer detected as a mobile modem in Ubuntu. If I try to add a new connection, all options are disabled (whereas earlier Tata Photon card would appear automatically).
The product ID has changed. What change can I make to Ubuntu to enable it to detect the card again.
today my windows crashed and i decided to move into Linux. But here comes my biggest problem now, i cannot connect to wireless network but i am able to connect through wired connectionmine is a 10 year old computer so i think the card used is Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABGi am using Fedora 14. please note that i know only very little in Linux so please respond accordingly
Been using Ubuntu for 1 yr now on my Dell Dimension 8250 but a newbie with my Averatec AV3270-EH1 laptop circa 2005. Ubuntu 10.04 does not detect the Integrated WLAN card/adapter. I've looked at all the forums/posts but none had the issue I have. When I type lspci into the terminal i get this back:
00:00.0 Host bridge: VIA Technologies, Inc. K8M800 Host Bridge 00:00.1 Host bridge: VIA Technologies, Inc. K8M800 Host Bridge 00:00.2 Host bridge: VIA Technologies, Inc. K8M800 Host Bridge
[code]....
And when I type in iwconfig:
lo no wireless extensions. eth0 no wireless extensions.
This is my first post here. I'm using Opensuse 11.2 (Gnome)and the inbuilt kernel is 2.6.31.xx. My laptop is having bcm4312 (14e4 : 4315 id)chipset for wireless. (0e:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g (rev 01) 0e:00.0 0280: 14e4:4315 (rev 01) ) I have read multiple times here in some threads that this kernel will require Broadcom-wl drivers(Tried ,No success with this) And If I want to use b43 drivers , then I need to go for the 2.6.32 kernel (stable one from this release). I've done the same exactly given in some other link -
Steps- make mrproper make menuconfig make dep make clean make bzImage make modules make modules_install
After rebooting it's not showing anything new.Just the boot menu with the older one. Experts, Kindly let me know what I'm missing?
I have a problem. I'm using the latest Debian stable, Lenny. I am trying to get my usb wifi card working. The Debian wiki advised me to upgrade my kernel to 2.6.30 using backports, because the drivers for my wifi chip are supposedly in the newer kernel.
So thats what I did. The install went fine. However, after rebooting the computer hangs when it is starting gdm. Only the desktop background appears with some fuzzy stripe over it, the mouse doesn't respond. Pressing ctrl+alt+f1 does nothing. I can only restart with ctrl+alt+del.
I can still use the computer with the old kernel. No problems there. I tryed disabling GDM and rebooting again with the new kernel. It boots up and works fine on command line. However when I type startx it hangs, just like before.
I'm not an expert, but I'm suspecting there might be problems with the graphic drivers in the new kernel. When I installed lenny at first, X started fine. However 3d acceleration was not functioning. I got help from IRC, I had to install some package to enable direct rendering. Don't remember which one anymore.
Here's what lspci gives for VGA: 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Rage 128 PF/PRO AGP 4x TMDS
I was using tripleboot system in one hard drive. That included Windows 7,Ubuntu 10.10 and Ubuntu 11.04. And yesterday I decided to added openSUSE 11.3 at another partition. I'm using Ubuntu 11.04 grub2 as bootloader.
At first there was no problem. All OS detected well, but after opeSUSE online updates last night my openSUSE partition won't boot. First, at boot I chose openSUSE and it said "Boot kernel first" and nothing happens. And then I boot to ubuntu and ran update-grub then I saw grub no longer detected openSUSE partition.
I upgraded to Ubuntu 10.4 on my Dell Inspiron 6400 yesterday (32-bit). Everything was running great, but when I turned it on today my wireless adapter is no longer working and the hardware switch doesn't do anything. It's working in Windows fine so it can't be the hardware. Here is some information:
Restarting the network with 'sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart' didn't work.I've tried Ubuntu several times before but usually there is one small issue which makes me go back to Windows. I love 10.4 so I hope I can get this working so I can stay on Ubuntu!
I upgraded in Ubuntu from 2.6.28-13 to 2.6.30 and now I get no line-drawing characters in applications like alsamixer; instead they are replaced by 127-bit chars like 'lqqk'. As a coder, I'd really like to understand what happened - what changed (file in /etc?) affecting terminal capabilities, and what does the kernel have to do with it .
PS: the distro is Jaunty and I used the debs at http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-mainline/:
I am running -current on an ASUS eeePC 1000HE. Wireless was working fine up until the time I applied the latest changes from the Slack -current tree, which upgraded wpa_supplicant. Now, no networks are detected.
I looked at some related threads here and did some basic checking: neither the eth1 nor wlan0 interfaces show up in iwconfig or ifconfig output. Am afraid I am still a wireless dunderhead and don't know where to start troubleshooting this issue.
I upgraded from lenny to squeeze on a notebook and I can no longer connect to the wireless network. The computer is an LG notebook and the network card is ralink rt2860. I am using Gnome and NetworkManager. The wireless key is WEP hex. It was working fine with lenny till before the upgrade. After the upgrade, the network card stopped working. So, I checked
Then I reinstalled the driver with apt-get install firmware-ralink wireless-tools Then the network manager tray started working again and saw the network, but cannot connect. It was trying to connect but timed out and kept asking for the password. It is the correct password. I tried deleting the old connection and recreated a new one in the nm. But still does not work.
I own an ASUS N61JV-X2 notebook PC. It has an Atheros Communication, Inc. AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter. 03:00.0 Network controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter (PCI-Express) (rev 01) 03:00.0 0280: 168c:002b (rev 01) I cannot see any SSIDs including my home Verizon FiOS 802.11 G WPA2-AES-TKIP encrypted network. I went to Starbucks to try to connect to their free Wi-Fi and I could not make a connection. How do I solve this problem so that I can connect to a SSID of my choice and make a wireless connection while using GNOME 3?
I use openSUSE 11.3 with KDE 4.4 and I have a Belkin Share Wireless USB Adapter (F7D2101 v1) , I attached the adapter and rebooted the system, it does not work. Can someone help me configure?
I attached the adapter and the system says:

I had the Wireless Broadband working. It stopped working after I closed the laptop (suspend). Also the wifi will not connect until reboot. Now the entry for the Wireless Broadband is gone, and the tab for it is greyed out as well.I would be happy to submit this as a bug and assist with the debugging process.
I'm trying to install a Linksys WUSB600n dual-band USB wireless-N adapter onto a desktop system with opensuse 11.1 installed; this system will be migrating to a back porch with no cabling access, hence the wireless solution. Everything works fine under Windows XP, but on Linux, not so much. Hardware info is as follows; there is no "Wireless LAN" entry, but there is a USB entry:
abhishek:/ # sudo /usr/sbin/iwlist scan lo Interface doesn't support scanning. eth0 Interface doesn't support scanning. wlan0 Interface doesn't support scanning : Network is down

I have searched and have not found anything specific to my issue. I am currently using NDISWrapper to load the bcmwl15 driver and when it's active it works beautifully.Problem is sometimes at boot, the card doesn't "turn on" and I don't know how else to describe it. The OS does not even detect that the hardware is present. I have disabled wireless hotkey in BIOS. The only way to make the wireless card "active" is to reboot with the wiredconnection to the router. After doing that the wireless card "wakes up" and works awesome. Is there anything I can do to make sure the driver load at boot?mes I get the error that NDISWrapper is not modprobbed when I go to network configuration and if I wish to do i now? I don't know if that has anything to do with the boot sequence. Using the <modprobe ndiswrapper> command as root does nothing permanant
configure my Belkin Wireless USB adapter(F7D2101)? I attached the adapter and rebooted the system. I used the hardware info and it is listed but no drivers.
I am currently running openSUSE 11.4 on my Toshiba A505 laptop. I'm not certain about the exact model number of the wireless adapter but I believe it's made by Realtek. It does not show up in my list of network connections in YaST so I assume I'll need a driver for it.
I'm the System Administrator in a Government printing press and we are using eMacs and MacPro, there was this thunder storm and blown all the network ports and the management bought DM9601 USB NIc network adapters to be used before finding other altenatives but they are not working on the OS X. What should i do? Is there any driver for it or any special configuration on the Mac Os X 10.4 and 10.5?
