OpenSUSE :: Wireless Adapter No Longer Detected After Kernel Upgrade / Solve This?

Aug 17, 2011

No wireless after upgrading to linux kernel 3.0 in opensuse 11.4. I'm using Kde and gnome 3, everything was working fine under the 2.6.39 kernel, but now both only detects my wired connection. Any help resolving this would be greatly appreciated. I have a Netgear WNDA3100 adapter that uses the Atheros drivers. It also is no longer detected in my Fedora 15 after upgrading the kernel, but it still works in Mint 11 with the 2.6.38.8 kernel.

Ubuntu :: Wireless Adapter Not Being Detected

Jan 2, 2011

I just installed Ubuntu 10.10 on my Dad's desktop. Everything was fine, but the usb wireless adapter is not being detected correctly. It's Zyxel G-220 (Verizon put it in instead of running a cable from the Vios box next room). I checked the website and it says it's supposed to "work out of the box".

I have a msi netbook with ubuntu netbook remix installed and it was working great until yesterday when suddenly it stopped detecting my home network. There are no problems on my two other machines, so I'm sure the problem is the netbook. I have no idea how to go about troubleshooting this. I was hoping someone could help me by giving me a place to start.

Ubuntu Networking :: Tata Photo Card No Longer Detected After Firmware Upgrade

I am using Ubuntu 10.04. The Tata Photon+ card Huwai EC1260 was working flawlessly. However, I recently did a firmware upgrade on the card that was provided by Tata Indicom for it to work on Windows 7.

After that, the card is no longer detected as a mobile modem in Ubuntu. If I try to add a new connection, all options are disabled (whereas earlier Tata Photon card would appear automatically).

The product ID has changed. What change can I make to Ubuntu to enable it to detect the card again.

OpenSUSE Wireless :: No Change After Kernel Upgrade For Betterment?

Jan 7, 2010

This is my first post here. I'm using Opensuse 11.2 (Gnome)and the inbuilt kernel is 2.6.31.xx. My laptop is having bcm4312 (14e4 : 4315 id)chipset for wireless. (0e:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g (rev 01) 0e:00.0 0280: 14e4:4315 (rev 01) ) I have read multiple times here in some threads that this kernel will require Broadcom-wl drivers(Tried ,No success with this) And If I want to use b43 drivers , then I need to go for the 2.6.32 kernel (stable one from this release). I've done the same exactly given in some other link -

Steps-
make mrproper
make menuconfig
make dep
make clean
make bzImage
make modules
make modules_install

After rebooting it's not showing anything new.Just the boot menu with the older one. Experts, Kindly let me know what I'm missing?

Debian Configuration :: X No Longer Starts After Kernel Upgrade / Fix It?

Jan 31, 2010

I have a problem. I'm using the latest Debian stable, Lenny. I am trying to get my usb wifi card working.
The Debian wiki advised me to upgrade my kernel to 2.6.30 using backports, because the drivers for my wifi chip are supposedly in the newer kernel.

So thats what I did. The install went fine. However, after rebooting the computer hangs when it is starting gdm. Only the desktop background appears with some fuzzy stripe over it, the mouse doesn't respond. Pressing ctrl+alt+f1 does nothing. I can only restart with ctrl+alt+del.

I can still use the computer with the old kernel. No problems there. I tryed disabling GDM and rebooting again with the new kernel. It boots up and works fine on command line. However when I type startx it hangs, just like before.

I'm not an expert, but I'm suspecting there might be problems with the graphic drivers in the new kernel.
When I installed lenny at first, X started fine. However 3d acceleration was not functioning. I got help from IRC, I had to install some package to enable direct rendering. Don't remember which one anymore.

Here's what lspci gives for VGA:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Rage 128 PF/PRO AGP 4x TMDS

Everything was running great, but when I turned it on today my wireless adapter is no longer working and the hardware switch doesn't do anything. Adapater name: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 3945ABG [Golan] Network Connection (rev 02)

Code:

Restarting the network with 'sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart' didn't work.I've tried Ubuntu several times before but usually there is one small issue which makes me go back to Windows. I love 10.4 so I hope I can get this working so I can stay on Ubuntu!

Then I reinstalled the driver with apt-get install firmware-ralink wireless-tools Then the network manager tray started working again and saw the network, but cannot connect. It was trying to connect but timed out and kept asking for the password. It is the correct password. I tried deleting the old connection and recreated a new one in the nm. But still does not work.

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Wireless Card Dormant Until Wired Connection Detected?

Feb 2, 2011

I have searched and have not found anything specific to my issue. I am currently using NDISWrapper to load the bcmwl15 driver and when it's active it works beautifully.Problem is sometimes at boot, the card doesn't "turn on" and I don't know how else to describe it. The OS does not even detect that the hardware is present. I have disabled wireless hotkey in BIOS. The only way to make the wireless card "active" is to reboot with the wiredconnection to the router. After doing that the wireless card "wakes up" and works awesome. Is there anything I can do to make sure the driver load at boot?mes I get the error that NDISWrapper is not modprobbed when I go to network configuration and if I wish to do i now? I don't know if that has anything to do with the boot sequence. Using the <modprobe ndiswrapper> command as root does nothing permanant
