It's Zyxel G-220 (Verizon put it in instead of running a cable from the Vios box next room). I checked the website and it says it's supposed to "work out of the box".

I'm using Kde and gnome 3, everything was working fine under the 2.6.39 kernel, but now both only detects my wired connection. Any help resolving this would be greatly appreciated. I have a Netgear WNDA3100 adapter that uses the Atheros drivers. It also is no longer detected in my Fedora 15 after upgrading the kernel, but it still works in Mint 11 with the 2.6.38.8 kernel.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a Belkin Wireless G USB Network Adapter but I cant get on the internet with it.The laptop is running Damn Small Linux.Heres what is going on and the code I typed:

ndiswrapper says the driver and hardware are present but iwconfig and ifconfig don't say anything.The wireless adapter works fine in windows 2000 and windows xp with the same driver.The green LED on the wireless adapter never flashes like it is supposed to.
Been using Ubuntu for 1 yr now on my Dell Dimension 8250 but a newbie with my Averatec AV3270-EH1 laptop circa 2005. Ubuntu 10.04 does not detect the Integrated WLAN card/adapter. I've looked at all the forums/posts but none had the issue I have. When I type lspci into the terminal i get this back:

I am brand new to Linux and Ubuntu. However it was very easy and smooth to install and get updated using my wired ethernet connection. I am now trying to understand how to have my wireless network adapter recognized or driver installed. I will be searching around the forums but it suggested I make an initial post as a new user. I am using an older Dell Inspiron 2200. I believe the chipset in my wireless adapter is indeed Broadcomm, so hopefully that will help direct any responses.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently reformatted and dual partitioned to both Windows 7 as well as ubuntu 10.10. Loading works fine and Windows 7 is 100% operational. I cannot seem to get my wireless network adapter to be read by Ubuntus 'Windows Wireless Drivers' gui. Here are the steps that I have done THUS far, to make sure that we are all on the right path. Before I go any further, my wireless network adapter is an old school WUSB11 Linksys Wireless Network Adapter (running version 2.6).
1) Downloaded and installed "ndiswrapper" from ubuntu's main website. I downloaded the common, utils and ndisgtk files and installed them accordingly.
2) I extracted these three files to the desktop of Ubuntu and accessed the terminal page.
3) From terminal I typed "cd Desktop" to change the directory to the desktop.
4) Next, I typed in "Sudo dpkg -i ndiswrapper-common_1.54-2ubuntu1_all.deb
Sudo dpkg -i ndiswrapper-utils-1.9_1.54-2ubuntu1_i386.deb
Sudo dpkg -i ndisgtk_0.8.5-1_i386.deb"
5) This installed Windows Wireless Drivers gui successfully and I can access it.
6) I have downloaded the driver files for the adapter from the cisco website and searched them for the required files needed.
7) After extracting the .INF file from the "Drivers" directory named "NETUSB.SYS" (I wasn't sure if the other associated files within the same folder needed to be present together with NETUSB so I moved everything to the desktop) I typed in "sudo ndiswrapper -i NETUSB.inf". After accessing the Windows Wireless Drivers gui I have noticed that the 'netusb' driver is present yet under it, the system states "Hardware present: No". This leads me to believe that maybe I installed incorrectly or my "fireware?" is not present? I was reading through the installation guide posted on the ubuntu website that in addition to the .INF file we also need the BIN file(s)? and SYS file(s)?.. The folder with the drivers for my adapter contains a BIN file but it is not within the "Drivers" section of the folder.
9) Upon mousing over the network Icon naturally my hardware is still not present.
10) From what I gather after the system finds the hardware I am to write into the terminal

I have just performed the first clean install since new. Installed a new Hard Drive as well. The machine and wifi was fine under Ubuntu 9.04.
It is booting much faster now but the wifi keeps dropping off.

Sir my lan card is woking but my wifi card is not working at all.

I just started using Ubuntu 10.10 recently. and Im not really sure how most of this stuff works. I could probably figure most of it out myself, but I have a question about using a wireless USB stick for internet.I do not have internet on my desktop (the computer with linux on it) and the only way i can get it is by using a Dynex Wireless G USB Network Adapter.
I do not have the disk for it. and Im guessing linux doesnt have the autoinstall thing that windows has (no offense to linux, im starting to love it more than windows). I have the driver for it on my windows computer. I was wondering if i could run the driver from a usb thumb drive.If not, then how can i get the network adapter to work?
We need to fina a wireles adapter that works with Ubuntu.We have a netgear adapter but the OS doesn't recognize it when we plug it into the USB port and there isn't software to install so it will recognize it - only Windows documentation.My daughter loves this OS and wants to keep it but can't connect to our wireless network without an adapter.

My wireless network is not being detected, but I'm pretty sure that my wireless device IS being detected. During the installation, I got a message about some firmware .ucode file not being found. It asked me to put the file on a usb stick (which I got online), and I did that. It didn't complain after that, but I got the same message again later on, but again it didn't complain when I continued the installation.

I decided to install Ubuntu using the windows installer, which did install well, but I decided that it wasn't for me, and uninstalled it. Now, my wireless adapter which is a Atheros AR5007 802.11b/g can see the network, find networks by itself, and is supposedly installed correctly according to Vista, cannot connect to any networks at all despite being able to see them and acquire a signal strength. Up until installing Ubuntu I have never had an issue like this. Other devices have no trouble connecting to this network, and I am currently using a Netgear wireless usb dongle to connect to the very network that my Atheros can not connect to.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a D-link dir-635 firmware v. 2.30eu (latest) and a USB WLAN adapter D-link DWA-140 802.11n. The driver seems to be installed correctly since lsusb lists it correctly and all the wireless networks in the vicinity are detected including mine. When I try to connect however NetworkManager says it is activating but after awhile the windows with the newtork password appers. dmesg output:

Not sure what to try next. I have checked some of the tips supplied in these forums but none seem to handle the issue I am having.
an issue with my broadcom wireless that is using the bcm4312 driver. I installed the b43(?) cutter firmware from the command line and now my network is detected but it just won't actually connect to it. My router has wpa security enabled but i think it worked with it before.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am using a Compaq presario laptop. I installed Ubuntu 11.04 (32 bit) within windows 7.Initially my WiFi was running fine in Ubuntu without me doing anything. Now suddenly Ubuntu has stopped showing any of the WiFi networks. I have not done any changes in Ubuntu.When i booted to my Win 7, it was able to detect the network. I uninstalled and reinstalled Ubuntu, with no avail. But Ubuntu is able to detect the wired network when connected. I am at a loss.

I have an Ethernet device (eth0) and a wireless device, wlan0
Status in system->administration->network:
Tab devices:
eth0 : active
wlan0: inactive
Tab Hardware:
eth0: system
wlan0: configured (description: b43)
Double clicking on the wlan0 line gets you to Network Adapters Configuration, where adapter b43 grayed out) is associated with device wlan0. So far, so good (I did all the fwcutter stuff, so I assume this is the result). When I installed the system (from installcd, then update, then install broadcom-wl, ...) I configured it to be started up with network manager, automatically on startup. I managed to get it working exactly once in that session.
Problem is, it doesn't start up and the wireless is not even visible when you click the network manager icon. For that matter, eth0 does not start automatically either, but at least there is a button to start it in network manager. Coming back to the tab devices, clicking on wlan0 allows you to click on the activate button ... but there it says: Cannot activate network device wlan0! b43 device wlan0 does not seem to be present.
Let me start by saying that with the previous kernel 2.6.31.5 when I opened network configuration, it didnt even recognize my card when i'd go to modules. After I updated to 2.6.31.8 it didnt recognize it until I installed the ralink-firmware 1.1.3.5. After that I could configure it using rt2870sta setting in modules. But once I restarted it would freeze after a few seconds after I could see the desktop on startup. I reconfigured the card to be 'manually' powered, but now it just freezes when I click on the access point I want to connect to. When it freezes the caps lock and scroll lock start blinking and the only way to turn off is holding the power
