OpenSUSE Install :: Unable To Use Core I3 Intel Clarkdale Graphic Controller

May 22, 2010

I own a MB with H55 Chipset and a Core i3 540 with openSuse 11.2.I tried kernel 2.6.32 and 2.6.34 and the newest Xorg delete the xorg.conf and got a fine picture on the screen (same with xorg.conf and device "intel") Even HD MKV is possible. But in KDE I can only open one programm. If I try to open a second programm the desktop disappear and I get the KDM screen and have to login again and the former started programm is gone. Only if I start the programms via an open Terminal window the programms will run. I tried to delete all .kde(x) directories, but its the same after restart.Only if I use driver "fbdev" in the xorg.conf I get no problem. But then the screen is very slow.

Code:

OpenSUSE Install :: 11.1 To 11.2 - Update Or New Installation With Intel 915 Graphic?

Apr 14, 2010

I should install a new openSuse 11.2 or if I should make an Update-Installation from DVD (see openSUSE 11.2 Installation Quick Start Installation Mode: Select Mode - New Installation / Update / [...]) or an Update Installation via Yast. Now I am using openSuse 11.1 and Gnome 2.24.1 (mostly, 1 account is using KDE) and Kernel Linux 2.6.27.45-01.1-pae. "/home" is on an separated partition (as part of an extended partition).

Contra new installation?:

- I have an Laptop (Samsung x20) with integrated intel 915 graphic and an very hight resolution (1400x1050). The monitor's resolution is not listed in the bios of the graphic cart/solution. Because of that I had many problems with my fist installation of suse/openSuse linux.

- Will I have problems to keep my old accounts?

Pro new installation?:

- Sometimes funny system reports (mostly about ICE).

- I have been logged in as root in Gnome (as I had some problems with (no) audio, the digital optical audio out is still not running).

- I think the fist installation was a few years ago maybe I had been to often "bold".

CentOS 5 Hardware :: Launching X11 Sometimes Crashes Core I5 Clarkdale With Black Screen

Aug 23, 2010

I am having a problem with my Core i5 system running Centos 5.5. The system will lock up with a black screen on occasion when launching X11 - this could happen at any time, from the install CD the first time it's being installed or trying a live CD, or the 3rd-10th time I launch startx from tty1 or sometimes just switching from tty1 to display0 or display1. When the crash occurs, sometimes the systems fans will all turn on loud, and the reset button becomes non-responsive. Other times the screen is black and it just sits there and I have to hard power off. There's nothing in /var/log/messages.

I tried a fix from an old post for 5.4 adding the option for "DDC" "false" in the xorg.conf file, and this did not help. I also ran all the system updates, no help.

The system is totally stable so long as I don't switch between ttys and X11 or launch new X11s (it's also stable under other OSs and has passed Memtest86+ 4).

Is this an instability with the Core i5 driver? The "Video Card" in the display options is set to "intel - Experimental modesetting driver for Intel Integrated Graphics Chipsets" - the "experimental" part is a little scary. Should I try setting the driver to "i810" as the 5.5 release notes recommends (again there's no onboard "chipset" this is an embedded graphics processor on the i5 CPU).

here's the getinfo.sh dump

OpenSUSE Hardware :: 11.3 On Intel Core I5 With Integrated Graphics + Intel H55 Express Chipset

Aug 18, 2010

! I'm thinking of buying a corei5-660 on a motherboard with an Intel H55 Express Chipset. Does anyone know if it's fully compatible with OpenSUSE 11.3? I mean video (that comes from the processor, not an off-board PCI), audio (HD Audio), networking (Intel 82578DC Gigabit), SATA Controller, USB, etc. I've tried to google but didn't find much info so I wonder if anyone is using or knows where I can find more info about it...

I have found this thread on the forums about the H55 chipset: Core i3 Intel Clarkdale graphic controller problem But the problems were facing on 11.2, I don't know about 11.3...

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Intel HD Graphics (Intel Core I3) With Suse 11.3 - Poor Resolution

Jan 2, 2011

I've installed Suse linux 11.3 (kernel 2.6.34.7-0.5) on my brand new computer HP all in one 5130. Everything worked incredibly well : Wifi, wireless keyboard and mouse, sound, webcam.. There is only one remaining issue : I get a very poor resolution (1280x1024) instead of the 1920x1080 allowed by the screen. The graphic card is an intel chipset (HD graphics) integrated to an intel core i3 CPU. Here is (part of) the X11.org log :

OpenSUSE Install :: DELL Latitude E6410 - Core I7 M620 With Integrated Intel HD Graphics - Blank Screen

Aug 19, 2010

I have been unable to get both opensuse 11.2 and 11.3 32 bit versions work properly on my DELL Latitude E6410 laptop. With both 11.2 and 11.3 KDE Live CDs I get no graphical display when I attempt to boot into the Live system. VESA mode does not help either, only text mode works. So I installed the system in text mode but during the first boot the screen went blank again.

One peculiar thing is that 11.1 installs and boots fine, what gives? Is this even supported or I shouldn't even try to bother getting this setup to work? Has anyone been able to run opensuse 11.3 on a Core i7 integrated Intel graphics system with X system working?

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Video With 11.4 32 Bit & The Intel 865 Graphics Controller - Disable "Desktop Effects"/XGL/compiz?

May 1, 2011

Just put 11.4, 32 bit on a system with an Intel D865 GLC motherboard and 865G built in graphics controller. While the install went OK it turns out that X is totally hosed. After fighting with things for a while and discovering that Sax2 had disappeared I poked at Google and discovered some other poor folks that have had similar issues with Intel video cards. Based on a suggestion for a doc in OpenSuse.org I edited the file: /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-device.conf

and added the line: Driver "intel" to it - after that things got better. Obviously the install process had not identified the video card correctly. I'm now left with another issue - while the system now identifies the driver and can talk to the monitor correctly, a Samsung S23A350H I can't open a window after X comes up and I login - basically the same issue as the unresolved Bug 673873: [Bug 673873] intel [865G] Windows flash rapidly or don't appear if Desktop Effects are on in KDE and GNOME

The workaround is to turn Desktop Effects off but since X doesn't work I can't figure out how to do that. I can't find the gnome-xgl-switch or a xgl-switch that used to exist to do it on the command line so that's out. Someone said you could drop the empty file "disable-compiz" in the ~/.config/compiz directory and that would do it but in 11.4 that directory doesn't exist. how to disable "Desktop Effects"/XGL/compiz or whatever it is now called on the command line in OpenSuse 11.4 without a gui if that is still possible?

CentOS 5 Hardware :: Unable To Install Graphic Card Driver For Dell Precision T3500?

Jul 28, 2010

I have recently installed Centos. During the installation, I noticed that only sound was being tested during the installation. Once everything has been installed successfully. I can run Centos with no problem. However, when I tried to switch from one window (browser) to another. The display was slow. Thus, I suspected the driver for the graphic card of my PC is not being installed successfully. When I type /sbin/lspci | grep VGA in the terminal, I get the following output:

02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation Unknown device 06fd (rev a1)
03:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation Unknown device 06fd (rev a1)

Then, I went to the dell support & driver site to download the driver. In the readme file, it is suggested to install dkms first before installing the graphics driver by typing rpm -ivh dkms-2.1.0.1-1.noarch.rpm

I managed to install the dkms without any error. However, when I use rpm to install the graphics driver as suggested by the readme file:
rpm -ivh dell-nvidia-190.42-1dkms_rhel5.3.x86_64.rpm

I get the following errors: error: Failed dependencies:
libX11.so.6()(64bit) is needed by dell-nvidia-190.42-1dkms_rhel5.3.x86_64
libXext.so.6()(64bit) is needed by dell-nvidia-190.42-1dkms_rhel5.3.x86_64[code]....

Since the above errors may be related to the missing packages then I use yum provides and install to find the missing packages. Even I try to install all the matched packages, i still cant install the driver for my graphic card. To be honest, i am not very sure whether I am doing the right things or not. how to solve this slow display problem when switching from one application to another.

Ubuntu :: Intel RAID Controller - Showing 2 Drives?

Apr 24, 2010

I shall start off by saying that I have just jumped from Windows 7 to Ubuntu and am not regretting the decision one bit. I am however stuck with a problem. I have spent a few hours google'ing this and have read some interesting articles (probably way beyond what the problem actually is) but still don't think I have found the answer.I have installed:

Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu lucid (development branch)
Release: 10.04
Codename: lucid

I am running the install on an old Dell 8400. My PC has an Intel RAID Controller built into the MB. I have 1 HDD (without RAID) (which is houses my OS install) and then I have 2 1TB drives (These are just NTFS formatted drives with binary files on them nothing more.) in a RAID 1 (Mirroring) Array. The Intel RAID Controller on Boot recognizes the Array as it always has (irrespective of which OS is installed) however, unlike Windows 7 (where I was able to install the Intel RAID controller driver) .Does anyone know of a resolution (which doesn't involve formatting and / or use of some other software RAID solution) - to get this working which my searches have not taken me too?

Debian Multimedia :: DisplayLink USB Graphic Adapter With Intel I915

Jun 6, 2014

I'm trying to set up an HP DisplayLink USB graphic adapter on Debian 6 to be paired with the notebook's integrated Intel i915 video card. I use a custom 3.11.1 kernel in which the options for VGA arbitration, fbdev framebuffer and DisplayLink driver are enabled as built-in, not as modules.

The device works and I'm able to correctly run an X session on a DVI monitor connected to my notebook thru this USB graphic adapter. However, I'm still not able to use both the DisplayLink device and the integrated Intel i915 at the same time under X, with the purpose to extend the desktop area over the two screens, side by side.

During a boot, if the DisplayLink adapter is detected over the USB cable, the X-server's Intel driver is repudiated as shown in the logs below, and the main notebook's screen stops working with X. (nonetheless, it still functions on the "Alt-F1" text terminal).

Relevant portion of /var/log/Xorg.0.log
In particular, it shows: [ 2509.084] (II) UnloadModule: "intel"
Code: Select all[  2509.061] (II) FBDEV: driver for framebuffer: fbdev

In case it is required, this is the relevant excerpt of my xorg.conf. In my full xorg.conf file installed locally, no other options deal with graphics or screens.

Debian Hardware :: Graphic Card Intel HD4400 Not Recognized

Sep 15, 2014

I'm trying to make things work on my laptop. Almost done, but there is one hardware issue left. I have a Intel HD4400 graphic card. But it seems that it is not recognized. I had an issue loading Gnome3.

Code: Select allGNOME 3 Failed to Load

Unfortunately GNOME 3 failed to start properly and started in the fallback mode.

This most likely means your system (graphics hardware or driver) is not capable of delivering the full GNOME 3 experience

Another thing :
Code: Select all$ grep EE /var/log/Xorg.0.log
[    29.117] (EE) FBDEV(0): FBIOPUTCMAP: Invalid argument

Also, if I go in "applications" ->"system tools" -> "Preferences" -> "System settings" and then in "Details, under Graphics I have "Drivers : unknown", "Experience : Fallback".

And as a consequence, I can't use dual-screen. If I plug another sreen, I have an exact copy, not even with a good resolution.

I search on the web for solutions, but I didn't understand much. I don't know what Xorg is, x-window, etc...
