OpenSUSE Hardware :: 11.3 On Samsung N210 ?

Sep 9, 2010

I've up until recently been using Mint on my n210, but as I really liked the look of openSUSE (Gnome) I have changed to 11.3. So far I love the distro, but I am having a little issue - some fn key combinations aren't working (brightness in particular). When in Mint I was able to install a couple of programs made by Voria (from Linux On My Samsung), is there such a program for openSUSE?

Ubuntu Installation :: Cannot Boot My N210 Samsung Netbook / Workaround This?

Nov 3, 2010

I bought this netbook yesterday & thought of installing ubuntu netbook 10.10 on it.

I booted with windows & started the install using WUBI.
The wubi setup was started but then after copying files it told that some error occurred.

I though that I will deal with it later and left the wubi installed.

Now, when I rebooted after sometime, I am thrown to the code...

My netbook also has Hyperspace installed that comes with netbook. I provided that in case it is caused because of that.
Now what do I do? I didnt do anything wrong and still ubuntu messed up my system

OpenSUSE Hardware :: SCX-4824FN Samsung Printer Error

Dec 8, 2010

Have been successfully using a SCX-4824FN MFP for the past 2 years on Opensuse, trouble-free. Now, it no longer prints and am guessing it may have something to do with a recent Opensuse update? Error message states 'cannot create image', which I understand suggests Ghostscript problem, but Ghostscript is loaded and works fine with other HP printers attached to same PC (other forums also suggest Ghostscript may need installing).

Have downgraded to earlier version of Ghostscript but no joy.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: 11.3 Breaks Samsung SCX 4300 Printing?

Mar 20, 2011

I already noticed that others had similar problems with other Samsung scanner / printers. I could not find any solution in any threads (other than going back to 11.2 or buying a printer from a different vendor), so I'll ask again here: I'm running openSuse 11.3 on a 64 bit system.

Here's some error log output from CUPS:

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Samsung Scx4200 Printer Install?

May 23, 2011

I am trying to install a driver for my scx4200. Ubuntu found this driver automatically but openSUSE 11.4 (64bit) does not. I have the manufacturers Cd with a Linux folder on it but if I run "autorun" in terminal it says permission denied. I have copied the files to a new folder on my hard drive but do not know how to run "autorun" in terminal with sudo. I switched to openSUSE because Ubuntu 11.4 kept freezing. SUSE does seem much better.

OpenSUSE Install :: Live CD - Can't Print Via Samsung ML-1740?

Jan 5, 2010

I'm on a T42 laptop with a Samsung ML-1740 attached on my USB port. I installed the printer with the tool and everything seemingly went okay. Won't print, tho. I read somewhere on fedora's pages (prob the forum) that someone had a similar prob and it was a matter of loading foomatic, whatever that was, then retrying the load. It worked for them. Anyone aware of this?? Or is this a simple fix? I used the recommended driver for ML-1740 listed in the GUI.I have to reboot, I'll try to get a printout from troubleshooting.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Samsung CLX 3170 FN -printer Doesnt' Work?

Aug 4, 2010

The situation:At my workplace there is a shared printer installed in WINDOWS. It's installed also in my windows system(WINDOWS 7 ULTIMATE version 7600). It's working very well. From windows I shared it to have the option for printing from openSuSE 11.3. In Samba I can see the other colleagues connected to the same workplace network. I shared also the printer with Samba.I can see it.

The problem :The printer doesn't work.I can't find a opensuSE11.3 driver for it (Samsung CLX 3170 FN).The question 1:Is it really need a properly driver for it if it installed in windows? The question 2:How can I make printing from openSuSE11.3 with the shared installed in windows server printer? Steps done:in MS Win system I shared ,I noted the WORKGROUP,the PC name and the IP for the printer. //ALso I know the domain and my IP.well done in resolv.conf,in fact I have internet connection from openSuSE 11.3,no problem,e-mail/evolution and kmail are working very well, configured both for the workplace). Now in openSuSE what should I do? I need some advices/right steps) about configuring this printer USING few ways(Samba,Printer config from YAST etc) because I am thinking somehow I did something wrong. When I make print test page the printer make the noise is preparing but nothing is happening. I believe that maybe the driver missing is the problem. BUT ONCE AGAIN,it's installed in my PC in Windows system,/I have dual boot system/GRUB MANAGER/openSuSE and Windows 7 Ultimate 7 7600. Can I work with the printer via internet/network //Samba/CUPS/etc,etc with localhost /IP,or other way if I DON'T have a driver for openSuSE

OpenSUSE Install :: 11.3 Running On Samsung Q1EX - Working Configuration - Failed To Get Textmode Console

Sep 4, 2010

I needed to load Linux on a Samsung Q1Ex for a project I'm contracting on, and could not for the life of me get anything to run. Turns out that the video card is a chrome relative, and for some reason, almost every distro out there (I usually use debian for this sort of project - ie, no money, but use SLES at my day job) failed to even get to textmode console. Trying several distros, I finally put it out there and used OpenSuse and voila!, vga was working. After that, I got X running, and many hours later had the mouse working. The key to this device is Windows. I ended up parsing through the registry looking for "touch" and found that the software in use on Windows is eGalaxTouch. A quick google brought up their site where I found several Linux drivers. I used the beta mode drivers to get the mouse working. Here is a more detailed breakdown.

Use OpenSuse 11.3 (I used the full blown disc - its is the only distro I could get to boot correctly as the others all used OpenChrome, while OpenSuse seems to use fbdev - note here that installing the unichrome drivers will actually break X and cause you to have to reboot to get away from the mess on the screen). Use eGalaxyTouch drivers. The pdf's included in the download have step-by-step instructions but the big pieces are the setup.sh script and the serio_raw steps (note if you perform a 'hwinfo --bios | more' you can figure out which /dev/input/event* you're using - for me it was event1 and serio4). Note also to choose PS/2 when executing the setup.sh script provided in their download. eGalax_eMPIA Technology Inc. TouchKit Linux Driver Here is my xorg.conf now:

Section "ServerLayout"
InputDevice "EETI" "SendCoreEvents"
Identifier "X.org Configured"
Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0
InputDevice "Mouse0" "CorePointer"
InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard"
EndSection
[Code]....

On the video, just stay with the fbdev and you should be good. So far, I've had KDE, Gnome, TWM all running; and now have my EFL apps running! Woohoo! Next piece of the puzzle is to verify sound, but on the face of it, looks like the system recognized it off the bat. And of course one other note. 11.3 is going to make me a convert!

The third option says "Please Insert a MicroSD card". (I don't have such at home). Ubuntu can't see my phone, none of the options seem to work. Maybe I should buy a MicroSD card? Or is there a workaround for the windows software to run ubder Linux? I tried to install t with WINE, but it froze during the installation.

Ubuntu :: Using The Samsung N150 Netbook?

I am very computer literate doing programming at Uni, but have not used Linux before. Also there's loads of Samsung software for extending battery life or something. Will I be able to install that on Ubuntu or not?

Debian Hardware :: Samsung E2020 Reverts To VGA

Oct 3, 2014

I had an ubuntu 11.10 installation that was no longer supported and was low on disk space, so I bought a new disk and installed debian wheezy on it and made it the boot disk.

The machine had/has a samsung e2020 monitor, and ubuntu and the new debian install both recognized it as 1600x900 resolution. I ran the proprietary nvidia driver with ubuntu but did nothing at all with the debian ... it just worked.

The power supply on the machine conked out and I took it ro be replaced and dug out an old, old machine to use while the newer one was gone. Debian would not install on it. But ubuntu 11.10 did, but displayed at 1024x768 on the samsung which it recognized as a 'VGA'. It was slow, but it worked. When the newer machine came back I reinstalled it ... but its debian 7.6, which used to know the samsung at 1600x900 resolution, now runs it at 1024x768, just as the old box had!

It must be some change made to some firmware in the samsung itself? It's not very pleasant.

I've tried to install the nvidia driver , but no luck there. I see now that debian uses something called 'nouveau' to run the proprietary nvidia chip, and I'm all for that ... but it used to be able to run it at 1600x900 and now it's forgotten how.

Here they are ...

Code: Select alljfl@wsdeb:~$ xrandr
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1024 x 768, maximum 4096 x 4096
VGA-1 connected 1024x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 0mm x 0mm
   1024x768       60.0*
   800x600        60.3     56.2
   848x480        60.0
   640x480        59.9

[Code] ....

So I've gotten lucky, haven't I? I don't know if the display will still be ok when I restart ... so I'll save a copy of the above and try to script it, if I must, on reboot/relogin.

Debian Hardware :: NCQ (queued Trim) With Samsung 850 Pro SSD

Aug 29, 2015

I just bought a Samsung 850 Pro 250GB SSD drive and have since then found out that Linux has/had a faulty implementation of queued trim (which is a synonym for NCQ I think). I'm using kernel 4.1.0 (the default selected by the Debian 8.1 installer) and I've read that Samsung drives are blacklisted for queued trim by the recent kernels. However, the output of dmesg contains the following lines, with and without TRIM enabled for the drive (i.e. with or without the "discard" option in fstab for the drive):

Code: Select all[    1.012287] ata6.00: 1953525168 sectors, multi 16: LBA48 NCQ (depth 31/32), AA
[    1.013438] ata5.00: failed to get NCQ Send/Recv Log Emask 0x1
[    1.013440] ata5.00: 488397168 sectors, multi 1: LBA48 NCQ (depth 31/32), AA
[    1.015037] ata5.00: failed to get NCQ Send/Recv Log Emask 0x1

Since the depth is not 1 but rather 31, it looks like NCQ is enabled. I've disabled TRIM on the drive for now, and whether it's safe to enable TRIM or not.
