How do I install my Samsung SCX-4623FW/XAA multipurpose B&W Laser printer in Ubuntu Linux via USB cord on my 5-6 year old Dell desktop?
I have downloaded three files from Samsung.
/home/chuck/Downloads/UnifiedLinuxDriver_0.95.tar.gz
/home/chuck/Downloads/Smartpanel_0.95.tar.gz
/home/chuck/Downloads/PSU_0.95.tar.gz
I have recently installed linux 'uberstudent'and find it doesnt recognise my floppy drive but more importantly I cant install my printer a samsung ML4500 laser. There are readme files (reproduced below) but I just dont know enough about the system to know what to do with them " does it mean anything to anyone ? I am a bit reluctant to experiment with terminal incase I mess up the entire system ! also could their be a connection between this and the floppy not working ?
1.AUTORUN will not run
2.clicking cdsetup.exe and selecting 'open with archive manager' results in : 'an error occured while loading the archive'
3.clicking cdsetup.exe and selecting 'open with wine windows programe loader' results in 'samsung printer setup window'etc, and it appears to load normally until 'PROGRAM ERROR 'DAC1.EXE encountered problems and has to be closed.

I have migrated from Debian to Fedora 14 (2.6.35.11-83.fc14.x86_64). Problem is that I can't get my networked printer to work (which it did with Debian). The printer is Samsung ML-3561ND and I got all he drivers & PPD from Samsung support. I prefer to install the printer with CUPS and not with Samsung Unified Linux install software. I have to send my documents to a user's Windows workstation and print from there I have googled a lot but have not found any solution.

Unfortunately, it does not work; while the installation program claims to "install" the needed driver, all attempts (including local) to print using that ML-1710 printer & printer driver set fail.
It's noteworthy that I can print on the ML-1710 printer, over the network, from both windows and other Linux (Ubuntu) workstations.
I am trying to install a driver for my scx4200. Ubuntu found this driver automatically but openSUSE 11.4 (64bit) does not. I have the manufacturers Cd with a Linux folder on it but if I run "autorun" in terminal it says permission denied. I have copied the files to a new folder on my hard drive but do not know how to run "autorun" in terminal with sudo. I switched to openSUSE because Ubuntu 11.4 kept freezing. SUSE does seem much better.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm on a T42 laptop with a Samsung ML-1740 attached on my USB port. I installed the printer with the tool and everything seemingly went okay. Won't print, tho. I read somewhere on fedora's pages (prob the forum) that someone had a similar prob and it was a matter of loading foomatic, whatever that was, then retrying the load. It worked for them. Anyone aware of this?? Or is this a simple fix? I used the recommended driver for ML-1740 listed in the GUI.I have to reboot, I'll try to get a printout from troubleshooting.

I've tried seemingly every possible combination of methods from "HOWTO Install Samsung Unified Printer Driver" to no avail (though I have learned a good bit during the process). I have just purchased a new Samsung ML1860 printer and I can't get it to work. Samsung provide a driver at their web site, UnifiedLinuxDriver 0.95.tar.gz I downloaded this file onto my harddrive, but I can't seem to get it to install. Instructions received said to open a terminal and type: $ sudo cdroot/autorun This did not work. etsah57@etsah57-KZ208AA-ABG-m9385a:~$ $ sudo cdroot/autorun $: command not found

I recently bought a Samsung 900x3a which is a very neat machine. However, I have some trouble trying to get ubuntu to run on it at all.Here are my symptoms / information :
- Live USB runs well
- Installation runs well
- Trying to install dual operating systems (Windows + Ubuntu)
- Installation terminates well
- If I reboot in LiveUSB, I can see my new "Ubuntu" partition with all the operating system files on it.
Does any of you have an idea of how I could possibly solve this issue without messing up my Windows environment ?
i have a server built out using a minimal f15 installation. when i connect my samsung galaxy s2 via usb i see the following in the syslog :

I needed to load Linux on a Samsung Q1Ex for a project I'm contracting on, and could not for the life of me get anything to run. Turns out that the video card is a chrome relative, and for some reason, almost every distro out there (I usually use debian for this sort of project - ie, no money, but use SLES at my day job) failed to even get to textmode console. Trying several distros, I finally put it out there and used OpenSuse and voila!, vga was working. After that, I got X running, and many hours later had the mouse working. The key to this device is Windows. I ended up parsing through the registry looking for "touch" and found that the software in use on Windows is eGalaxTouch. A quick google brought up their site where I found several Linux drivers. I used the beta mode drivers to get the mouse working. Here is a more detailed breakdown.
Use OpenSuse 11.3 (I used the full blown disc - its is the only distro I could get to boot correctly as the others all used OpenChrome, while OpenSuse seems to use fbdev - note here that installing the unichrome drivers will actually break X and cause you to have to reboot to get away from the mess on the screen). Use eGalaxyTouch drivers. The pdf's included in the download have step-by-step instructions but the big pieces are the setup.sh script and the serio_raw steps (note if you perform a 'hwinfo --bios | more' you can figure out which /dev/input/event* you're using - for me it was event1 and serio4). On the video, just stay with the fbdev and you should be good. So far, I've had KDE, Gnome, TWM all running; and now have my EFL apps running! Woohoo! Next piece of the puzzle is to verify sound, but on the face of it, looks like the system recognized it off the bat. And of course one other note. 11.3 is going to make me a convert!

I've just received my new Samsung N250 Plus Netbook which comes with Windows 7 Starter (yuk). I read a post on Ebuyer from someone who has installed ubuntu on his N250 so thought I'd give it a go tonight.
My main concern is whether my wi-fi card (Broadcom 802.11n according to windows) will work when I remove windows and install ubuntu. I intend to use the netbook for internet use only while working abroad.
Is it possible to test it works by running ubuntu from my USB stick first (without removing windows 7)?

I would like to download a few (591)images from the Galaxy S phone. Samsung have advised me that to do that I need to place the Galaxy S phone on Mass storage, whivch I can do and plug the phone USB cable to the PC and manually mount the USB. The Galaxy S firmware 2.1-update1 doesn't support automatic mounting! The Galaxy S has an Android platform Kernel version 2.6.29 with root @SE-S604 #2. I have been using GPRS on a Nokia 6230 on PCL 2009 for months, no problems. Got the C5212 2 days back. First, it would not connect using the old wvdial.conf file (the modem was detected on the same ttyacm1 port), throwing up an error I don't recall now. Then I did a wvdialconf, and edited the resulting file, and this time I got an error "Voice line detected".
The phone came with the windows software, so tried getting online on a Win install. The phone connected, but the procedure involved disconnecting the phone (as described by the software itself). Assuming this "disconnection" could be a reason for wvdial to fail, I tried again on Linux. This time I could get online, without a hitch.
Yesterday, I abruptly started facing a new problem "LCD Terminated by Peer". I had used the phone error free for more than 2 hours. Then I disconnected and plugged it again, and voila the error! I have looked at many sites and their solutions. None of them seem to change this situation. The most popular tip is to comment out all lcp related lines in the /ppp/options file. I am using wvdial and kpp, and my options file did not have those lines in the first place.

So far I love the distro, but I am having a little issue - some fn key combinations aren't working (brightness in particular). View 3 Replies View RelatedI've just gotmy new phone a SamsungGT-S5230! My problem is:I can't transfer any file from my ubuntu desktop over to my phone. On the CD it came with there is only a windows software called "PC Studio" and Windows drivers. As I plug in the phone via USB to the PC it offers 3 options: PC Studio, Media Storage, Background Storage. If I pick one of the first 2 options my phone says it is connected, and charges via USB. The third option says "Please Insert a MicroSD card". (I don't have such at home). Ubuntu can't see my phone, none of the options seem to work. Maybe I should buy a MicroSD card? Or is there a workaround for the windows software to run ubder Linux? I tried to install t with WINE, but it froze during the installation.

It came with windows 7 starter and a load of pre installed Samsung crap. I was wondering whether Ubuntu would be a better choice for me since I only really want, Chrome, VLC, Spotify, MSN and Dev++ compiler.
I am very computer literate doing programming at Uni, but have not used Linux before. Also there's loads of Samsung software for extending battery life or something. Will I be able to install that on Ubuntu or not?
