From the title of this post, you can see that I am having some trouble getting the Linksys Wireless-G broadcom card working. I have been doing some research and have heard that getting a broadcom card to work in Linux can be a real pain.
I have verified that Mint 10 recognized PCMCIA so I am good there. I installed Wifi-Radar to see if maybe it would recognize it but it did not.
When I type iwconfig, it does not show any wireless signals available. When I originally set up the partitions for this laptop, I used PartedMagic and was able to quickly set up the network on that with vertually no problem what so ever.
get WIFI working on my Dell D600 with Ubuntu 11.04 freshly installed. I some limited sucched following the this post t=1621331 this got the card working but it was very very slow over 70% packet loss to the WIFIrouter. 1. I have recently installed linux mint 10 Julia on my wife's Dell. I installed off CD from linux freedom website with the ftp download. My wife wanted her own account so I went to admin/users and groups and created her account. Or so I thought. When I tried to switch users (with the boot CD in and out of the drive) I got the follwing error:
1) "The panel encountered a problem while loading "OAFIID:GNOME_mintMenu" do you want to delete applet from your configuration?"
2) "The panel encountered a problem while loading "OAFIID:GNOME_IndicatorApplet" Do you want to delete the applet from your configuration?" Both of these had an orange word bubble with an exclamation point in it.
3) "Nautilus could not create the following required folders; :/home?tina?Disktop,/home/tina/.nautilus. Before running Nautilus, please create these folders or set permissions such that Nautilus can create them." This came in a red word bubble with an "x" in it. One last thing. When I installed linux mint 10 on my ancient compac (it has a pent 4 processor and had win 2K on it) all I had to do was plug in a usb wireless card and I was online. My wife's Dell has a wireless card built in and I can't find it in mint 10. How do I set up the wireless. Sorry for the "2 fer" but I'm pressed for time and have to get to work. I'm a copier tech/electrician and I'm good with the hardware but with the software, not so much. I'm sticking with linux no matter what the learning curve because my Mom gave me the compac evo thinking it was useless and I've brought it back to life with linux.
i have fought with this laptop for a long time and im just worndering if somebody could tell me how to clear it off and just re install it and where to download the linux mint from?
I recently installed Linux Mint Julia 10 on my netbook and it is great.no issues from USB install. My question is what is a smaller distro I can use for netbook...and will it install as easy as Mint 10.I only use netbook for emails and web searches for information..I have no harware issues ..except for my lack of knowledge of Linux.
I've just installed F13 on Acer Aspire 5551G with has Broadcom BCM57780 ethernet card. And F13 does not recognize this card: in System > Administration > Network Devices tab is empty (but in Hardware tab the card is listed). So, I can't connect to the Internet
So far I've found: 1) Related bug for F11. 2) Related thread for F12.
I've tried all possible solutions mentioned in both the bug and the thread, but nothing could convince my F13 to like the ethernet card.
I'm sure you've seen this question before -- I tried searching but I can't find a clear answer. All I need is to get my wifi up and running in Ubuntu 10.04. I'm currently double-booted with XP on a Dell Latitude E5400 laptop. I'm in Windows right now. I can't post my lpsci readout because I can't access the internet from Ubuntu -- no access to wired connection.
I worked on this problem for a long time last night and fixed it somehow by installing a driver program -- it had "cutter" in the name. Today, however, I try to log in and Ubuntu won't connect to an open wifi point. Boot #1 it recognized it but wouldn't connect. Boot #2 it wouldn't recognize it at all (said "wireless is disabled" even though it wasn't. Boot #3 it would recognize the wifi point but wouldn't connect.) I can mantain a constant connection to this wifi in Windows XP and also on my Android phone.
I just want someone to please tell me how to get my wifi working reliably. I'm excited to switch over to Ubuntu, all I need is for the wifi to work. My wifi card is a Broadcom 43xx (4312?). Something like that.
I have an emachines D620 laptop running Ubuntu 10.10 with a Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g LP-PHY (rev 01). I havent done anything with it and cant seem to get it to work. I know this because when I had visto on it the card worked, but know it says that its firmware is not enabled and ive tried installing the drivers using the Additional Drivers under Administration. I would like it to be working so I can use my laptop's internet.
I'm running Joli Cloud 1.2 on my HP dm1z netbook and for some reason, it doesn't seem to recognize my wireless card. Because the HP dm1z has no ethernet port, I had to use a USB adapter to connect to the internet.
i am using fedora 14 in my lenovo z560 laptop. It contains broadcom wifi card. The configuration is.Network controller [0280]: Broadcom Corporation BCM4313 802.11b/g LP-PHY [14e4:4727] (rev 01) Subsystem: Broadcom Corporation Device [14e4:0510] I want to inject monitor mode in my laptop to run kismet . But i can't. I installed broadcom-wl driver in my laptop but i think its not compatible to run monitor mode.. when i run kismet it show me error that :------ try some other open source kernel driver And the other is :- kismet find only binary value eth1 port. It isn't detecting wlan0 port
I recently installed Suse 11.4 on my Dell Latitude 2110 netbook using the KDE live distribution, and, after that, the Broadcom wireless ceased to work. To enable the wireless connection, I have to press Fn + F6. If I do it now, the wireless led indicator turns on for a couple of seconds, then turns off again. Moreover, the option to enable the wireless connection in the network manager is greyed out

I just installed 9.10 and I can't detect any wireless networks. Is the card compatible with 9.10? Do I need to install any drivers? If the card isn't compatible with 9.10 is it compatible with later versions of Ubuntu? Marking this as somewhat urgent as I need to get internet access for some coursework soon, and also because my parents will kill me if they find out I've done anything unusual with the laptop because it's new and they think anything non -MS is a virus.
I got a new EDUP Wireless Lan PCMCIA Adapter to replace a busted SMC wifi card. I am running Ubuntu 9.10 on a Dell laptop. The OS will not recognize the new card. Here is some output code...
I recently installed suse 11.4 x64 onto my hp tx2000 tablet. everything has been working great including the wifi card. It's a broadcom 4328 a/b/g/n/bluetooth card and it was using the broadcom-wl driver. Earlier today i plugged in an usb wifi adapter to test whether it worked on suse plug and play. Well after plugging in and using this wireless adapter, my internal wifi card is no longer visible to the system. I've tried lspci and its not displayed. I booted into a different suse install and it wont work there. My bios does not seem to have a disable feature and the killswitch is in the correct position. The bluetooth is working but the wifi is not. In lspci i used to see "hp integrated (wireless+bluetooth)" and "broadcom 4328..." but now only the former.
I installed Ubuntu 10.10 amd64 online today. I was using 10.04 32-bit before, and the network drivers were easy to find and install. Ubuntu did the job for me and they worked flawlessly. It was a relief I didn't need to search around.
Even though 10.10 (64bit) found the drivers for me, both ethernet and wireless, they do not seem to be working alright. I installed both, made a restart. I found that the WiFi light on my laptop stays on, even if the wireless network is turned off using either the key combination (Fn+F2), or manually turning it off.
Issues with the ethernet? I am right now using ethernet but it does not care to detect the connection. Empathy won't connect automatically as a result- says no network connection. But here I am, posting this. Evidently, there is a connection, right?
Issues with the wireless? The WiFi light stays on all the time, and it isn't able to get hang of the connection I have at home. It just won't show any wireless connections available. When I tried to connect by giving it the SSID and the encryption type and password, it didn't work. Just kept asking for the password again and again (I have checked with the router- the password is correct).
Windows says I have a intel wifi link 1000 bgn card however lspci list it as a intel wifi link 100 series. I can not get it work right and does not seem to be recognized.
when it comes to openSUSE but I am earnestly trying. I installed the openSUSE OS on my HP dv6000 laptop, but it does not seem to recognize my wireless card (which is a Broadcom 4311).

Just installed Fedora 14 from the Live CD i686 on my Dell Inspiron 1521. I can't connect to the SpeedTouch 585 on either wireless broadcom card or the wired Ethernet card.
I can connect to it from the same Laptop on the Vista which is on dual boot on the same laptop.
Further confusing is that I ran Fedora 14 and connected to another SpeedTouch today.
Already checked the Channel on the wireless nic and it's on the same one as the SpeedTouch.
I have been waiting on installing ubuntu on my mid 2010 MBP 15' for a while now. I was wondering if the dynamic GPU switching was supported yet. Does Ubuntu recognize the intel card and can I use it over the nVidia card?
I have a problem with my wireless connection. I just installed the broadcom BCM4312 firmware in order to recognize my hardware. Everything is ok, it connects to my wireless network, but i can't access the internet. My wireless is in eth1 interface. If i try to connect using PPPOE it works.
So I just loaded ubuntu 10.10....and it works great...except for my wirelessi've got a broadcom b43 ...i went into system, administration, download additional drivers and downloaded/authenticated a b43 driver, but my machine (hp dv4405) does not recognize any wireless signals. The wireless light on my computer doesnt turn on (there's a button to turn it on and off) anyways...it's annoying. I guess broadcom recently released some open source drivers, but I'm having trouble sorting through all the info
As a part of my final project,i am beginner and this is the first one that i have the opportunity to work under linux fedora,my task consist to develop with C a driver of wifi by using the SDIO Wifi card as an interface. This driver will be included in a digital receiver TV.
Ubuntu seems to think my device is disabled. The switch is on and the blue light next to the switch is also on. I read up on this on other threads, but the solution involved using the cd. I had to install from windows using the iso and alcohol 120 because my cddrive is totally dead.
I have installed Mint8. I was using VPN connection before to be able to use skype (it's blocked in the Middle East...) but can't get it to work in Linux I've installed the network manager, added and configured the VPN connection but when I click on it to connect it doesn;t do anything. No window popping up, no error message... anyone has got an idea what else I should do in order making it work? or how else can I use skype without logging into private networks?
another "problem" we have got 2users on Linux and the other one cannot see the wifi icon in the bottom right corner on his desktop. after nm applet (or some command like that ) i got back that its been taken by another user. so can only one user see this icon on his desktop??
I am running (K)Ubuntu Lucid 10.04 64bit on a Dell Latitude E6400, WiFi Card Intel 5100. Never had any problems with networking. Up to about 2 weeks ago. I do realize there have been quite a few posts with this network adaptor, but non really described the problem I have here.
What happens is that suddenly the WiFi LED on the computer stops blinking, the WiFi connection gets disrupted, and the device is not recognized anymore when checking ifconfig. Only cold restarting the machine helps then... it will work for a while (between 1 and 20 minutes) and then crash again.
On Windows 7 the card works perfectly fine. With Ubuntu 11.04 in Live CD mode I have the same effects (connection crashes after a while). Also tried booting an older kernel, no success.
