I'm running Joli Cloud 1.2 on my HP dm1z netbook and for some reason, it doesn't seem to recognize my wireless card. Because the HP dm1z has no ethernet port, I had to use a USB adapter to connect to the internet.

From the title of this post, you can see that I am having some trouble getting the Linksys Wireless-G broadcom card working. I have been doing some research and have heard that getting a broadcom card to work in Linux can be a real pain.
I have verified that Mint 10 recognized PCMCIA so I am good there. I installed Wifi-Radar to see if maybe it would recognize it but it did not.
When I type iwconfig, it does not show any wireless signals available. When I originally set up the partitions for this laptop, I used PartedMagic and was able to quickly set up the network on that with vertually no problem what so ever.
just installed ubuntu but it doesn't recognise my wireless card. I'm running an emachines g720. Ive tried looking through some previous posts but the terminal thing frightens me to death really.I've tried looking through the idiots guide but i'm afraid i'm a better idiot than that.

I've tried inserting another card with only one fat32 partition and the system doesn't mount it. Both cards are visible in gparted byt not in "Places" menu.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have recently installed Karmic to a portable hard drive (WD elements 500gb) so that when it is plugged in the grub can boot and i can go into ubuntu 9.10 and when it is out windows 7/vista dual boot screen shows. When in ubuntu, there is no driver for my 'NVIDIA GeForce 9200M GS' graphics card available so i am stuck with the no effects mode and the games are poor.
Previously i had this same setup (but with jaunty) and the graphics card worked well, i could have all the wobbly window effects etc, but now i can't have anything.How could i get a driver for this?BTW, it is running through USB 2.0, although it is very fast.
I have an ATI Radeon 9000 Graphics card that Ubuntu 9.10 doesn't seem to recognize no matter what I do. View 4 Replies View RelatedSo the only experience I have with Linux is all from Ubuntu, and I just spontaneously decided that I needed a change...two days later my triple boot Macbook Pro got slimmed down to a dual boot OSX/OpenSUSE 11.2 machine. But there are some general problems, and I have absolutely no idea how to solve them. First, wireless isn't recognized at all...there isn't even a space for wireless connections. Second, I haven't been able to get compiz to work yet, and I can only suspect that the system doesn't recognize my video card, or the driver isn't installed. Yet again, no idea how to fix this.

I have installed Fedora 12, i'm using an external lcd samsung screen on the vga port, it works fine. My display properties shows two screen as well as the correct resolutions...the problem it that i can't use my latopt screen, i have tried different resolutions..but nothing. I can't use mi laptopt without an external screen.Even if i boot without my external screen, my laptopt screen goes black.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have Lucent Technologies Orinoco Silver 11 Mbps PCMCIA wifi card. It worked perfectly in Fedora 10, but after updating to Fedora 11 it stopped finding any wireless networks. The updating were done with automatic updating utility. The card works perfectly in Windows, I tested it today.
My laptop is HP nx6110 if that matters.
Here is the situation:
When I plug-out the card, the Network Manager disables wireless networking as it should. When I plug-in the card, wireless networking is enabled, so the system seems to recognize the card in some way.
If I try to connect to "Hidden wireless network" (because there isn't any wireless networks listed in the Network Manager) system tries to connect for a couple of minutes, and then asks wireless settings again. Orinoco card's lights DOESN'T blink normally when connecting to the network (one light should blink rapidly and one should light continuously, but both are blinking rarely or doesn't blink at all).
In System->Administration->Network in tab Hardware (hope those names are correct, I use Finnish version of Fedora...) is:

Here is what I have done to get the problem solved: In System->Administration->Network I have tried to connect to the wireless network manually (disabling the Network Manager). I can't get the connection. It gives me random error messages, sometimes "Check the cable" or something like that, sometimes just timeouts IP determination.
I have tried to connect different wireless networks, no connection. All tested networks worked with another computer.
No matter if I reboot or service network restart or plug-out plug-in the card... the problem still appears.

I am running (K)Ubuntu Lucid 10.04 64bit on a Dell Latitude E6400, WiFi Card Intel 5100. Never had any problems with networking. Up to about 2 weeks ago. I do realize there have been quite a few posts with this network adaptor, but non really described the problem I have here.
What happens is that suddenly the WiFi LED on the computer stops blinking, the WiFi connection gets disrupted, and the device is not recognized anymore when checking ifconfig. Only cold restarting the machine helps then... it will work for a while (between 1 and 20 minutes) and then crash again.
On Windows 7 the card works perfectly fine. With Ubuntu 11.04 in Live CD mode I have the same effects (connection crashes after a while). Also tried booting an older kernel, no success.

When I do a search of my video card I get "01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Rage 128 Pro Ultra TF", which is the integrated card on the motherboard, but I'm actually using an Nvidia GeForce 2 MX 400. View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an acer aspireone aod250, i putted an external cdrom and downloaded the ubuntu, tried to install it but it didn't recognize the hdd... i though it was the cd, i downloaded ubuntu netbook edition, it did the same. i thought maybe i could try another operative, i downloaded linux mint 9, did the same thing. then ordered a cd from ubuntu.com, got in today, and it doesn't recognize my hdd. btw, the hdd is a seagate momentus 5400.6 with 160gb. i already ran ubuntu with the cd rom and starts the instalation, but when it arrives to the partitioning part of the instalation, it doesn't detect my hdd. but the bios in the pc detects it.

Today I deleted Windows on my Dell Latitude D610 and instead installed Ubuntu 10.04 on it (I had a cd with 10.04 on it from when I installed it on my desktop a year ago). Everything runs fine except I can't get the wifi to work, and it won't recognize the driver either, actually it doesn't recognize any drivers.
