I am running (K)Ubuntu Lucid 10.04 64bit on a Dell Latitude E6400, WiFi Card Intel 5100. Never had any problems with networking. Up to about 2 weeks ago. I do realize there have been quite a few posts with this network adaptor, but non really described the problem I have here.
What happens is that suddenly the WiFi LED on the computer stops blinking, the WiFi connection gets disrupted, and the device is not recognized anymore when checking ifconfig. Only cold restarting the machine helps then... it will work for a while (between 1 and 20 minutes) and then crash again.
On Windows 7 the card works perfectly fine. With Ubuntu 11.04 in Live CD mode I have the same effects (connection crashes after a while). Also tried booting an older kernel, no success.

anyone tried to run wifi-card based on this chip? In coming days I will build myself a proprietary driver for 2.6.27.7 kernel. I mostly aware about patches for wpa_supplicant. Should I use a source for wpa_supplicant from slackware 12.2 distro or a new version? Do you know about any other prerequisities (requirements, dependencies) for building this proprietary driver?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have just installed openSuse 11.4 and have been trying to get my Edimax EW-7711In wireless card to work. I have downloaded and installed NDISWRAPPER but when I type ndiswrapper -i /path/to/rt2860.inf I get a message saying that this is the incorrect driver. However this driver drives the card for both Fedora 14 and Ubuntu 10.10, both using ndiswrapper, so what may be the problem with openSuse 11.4?

I havent done anything with it and cant seem to get it to work. I know this because when I had visto on it the card worked, but know it says that its firmware is not enabled and ive tried installing the drivers using the Additional Drivers under Administration. I would like it to be working so I can use my laptop's internet.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy laptop has an internal wireless device and a button to turn it on/off, but since it has bad reception I use an external USB wireless adapter.The problem is that if I turn the internal wireless device off using the button, it also turns the USB wireless adapter off.Is there anyway to use the killswitch (the button) only for the internal wireless device?This only started to happen in Ubuntu 10.04.

I was wondering if there's any way for a laptop to be both simultaneously connected to a wireless network, while at the same time acting as an ad-hoc network with local access to serve as a wifi connection for my mobile device, which would be ssh-ing into the laptop and using local resources.

I have an old PowerBook G4 that I would like to use as a 'dummy' computer for learning wireless penetration (WEP/WPA attacks) more effectively. I had been using a wireless router, but I gave it away I can use Mac OS X to share an ethernet connection over wifi, but this is _very_ un-configurable. You get two options only, WEP and a key-length. So, I would like to install someway to make this wireless connection more configurable.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI booted Debian in Live mode on a USB to try to see if the internet will work on my Linux machine before I actually install it (there is some tricky internet software where I live that I must overcome, but that will come in another thread).
Currently I have no WiFi whatsoever. When I go into the internet access menu I only get back the fact that there is a wired connection that's possible (theoretically, I should be able to also see networks to which I can connect to, but I don't). Also, it's impossible for me to actually get a wired connection going, unless I can somehow give it through my Windows laptop.
When I did some research, the people seem to say that I need to update the driver after enabling the use of non-free software; I can't do that since I have no connection in the first place.
The OS recognizes that the PCE exists (I am using asus pce-ac68), when I did "lspci" command it told me I have BCM4360 and BCM43225 chips.
I think I found the drivers here "[URL] ......" but I don't think my chip is listed there (there is no BCM4360 or BCM43225 on that list). What to do with those drivers, I mean how to compile them and install them on a Debian machine, and I'm not sure I can even install them on a live boot (but I want to make sure my internet works on the live boot before I actually install the OS).

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm sure you've seen this question before -- I tried searching but I can't find a clear answer. All I need is to get my wifi up and running in Ubuntu 10.04. I'm currently double-booted with XP on a Dell Latitude E5400 laptop. I'm in Windows right now. I can't post my lpsci readout because I can't access the internet from Ubuntu -- no access to wired connection.
I worked on this problem for a long time last night and fixed it somehow by installing a driver program -- it had "cutter" in the name. Today, however, I try to log in and Ubuntu won't connect to an open wifi point. Boot #1 it recognized it but wouldn't connect. Boot #2 it wouldn't recognize it at all (said "wireless is disabled" even though it wasn't. Boot #3 it would recognize the wifi point but wouldn't connect.) I can mantain a constant connection to this wifi in Windows XP and also on my Android phone.

I have just installed Fedora 15 on my desktop machine. It has found my WiFi card and has installed a driver but it is an incorrect driver. How do I remove it and install the correct one? The driver that is installed is a RaLInk RT 2800pci but the one it needs is a RaLink RT2860. This is the driver that I used with the same WiFi card in Fedora 14 using Ndiswrapper. Do I need ndiswrapper this time too?
Clicking on "Connection Information" says that the connection is active and that the driver is rt2800pci but I cannot connect to anything
My wifi adpater (built into HP laptop) is a intel wifi link 1000 series (b/g/n I think). Looking at some other resources it seems iwlwifi driver is the recommended driver for this card? however it is currently using iwlang. I am constantly experiencing dropped connections with my belkin g router and I am wondering if changing the wireless adapter driver might help, even if it doesn't what is the best driver for this card?

I've used the Wheezy docs to download the firmware necessary and it apparently is supposed to run fine with this firmware, but nothing is working. There was mention to a GitHub repository of a fixed version of the driver in question, which didn't work either.
Ubuntu 9.04 running on a Dell C640 with a Dell TrueMobile 1150 wireless card. Works perfectly under XP. Ubuntu can't find it. Wired networking finds the internet perfectly (though I'm still working on getting samba set up correctly for file/print sharing on my XP LAN).
I'm thinking I need a driver, maybe? Can't seem to locate one.
