General :: Error Message: Vncserver: Unrecognized Service
Jan 2, 2010
I have installed package tigervnc-1.0.0-3.fc12.i686, but when I am trying to start it: service vncserver start it comes back with following message: vncserver: unrecognized service.
I've already installed centos 5.5 and checked the xinetd services using the command : service xinetd status and the reply is xinetd: unrecognized service.
I install and configure the vncserver following and reading 1000papers, but all of this present the same problem; when i try to connect to my vncserver, recive this mesage: unable connect to socket: No route to host (113) The OS version is Fedora Core 14 and tigervnc-server i try different solutions including:Allow TCP connection modifing files /etc/gdm/custom.conf and /usr/share/gdm/gdm.chemas Disable SELinux removing iptables Here follow the vncserver configuration:
[code].....
The ip address of the vncserver is correct because i can do ssh on it. Where or what can i do?
How can I start the vncserver serivce before any uesr log in? because I only have one screen now what I already did is when I log in the vncserver service going to be startup, but I want it can start before I log in. I try the "chkconfig --level 345 vncserver on" but after I reboot, I still cannot access the system before I have a log in action.
dear, in centos / fedora, I can config to start a permanent vnc session by setting the /etc/sysconfig/vncserver file when the system starts. Is there any similar configuration in opensuse which give me a permanent session?
I have a few computers that share files from this main Ubuntu desktop - I've been having samba problems so I've run Quote: sudo aptitude purge samba then re-installed it from the Software Centre. But it's not starting:
Code: brent@Bertha:~$ sudo service samba start samba: unrecognized service
When I start the vncserver process, I get a message saying "Starting VNC server: no displays configured." I edited the /root/.vnc/xstartup file and changed twm & to say "gnome-session &" (Without quotes). Not sure why I am still seeing this error. It's CentOS 5.4.
I'm running VNC Server on CentOS5 on a brand new installation, this is for some of my students to use specific software via VNC on their machines from home that they otherwise don't have access to on their Windows machines. This has been working fine on our previous server for a few years but the hardware is now outdated so I have upgraded and put a fresh install of CentOS 5 on. This works fine for about 24 hours and then eventually one of the session ends up freezing where the user then can see everything on their session, the cursor can move but they cant click a single thing.
Well this is my first time using redhat 7, the install went fine and webserver, mysql, phpmyadmin are all working......great
The only problem i have is the remote desktop
I have set the password in preferences/remote desktop run command vncpasswd and set password
In services vncserver i get this message......... xsetroot: unable to open display '' Xvnc is stopped and vncserver failed. The error was: xsetroot: unable to open display '' Shutting down VNC server: 1:user1[FAILED]
Starting VNC server: 1:user1 [FAILED]
My vncservers file looks like this
I have tried restarting service using root login and user1
I have installed fedora 13 in my system. httpd server is also installed. when I tried to start the service of httpd, following error message displayed: Starting httpd: (98)Address already in use: make_sock: could not bind to address [::]:80
The desktop search has stopped working in Gnome.I get a message that says 'Search Service not running' with a button that says 'Start Search Service'.When I click the button nothing happens
In normal desktop GUI is working fine. But when in install VNCserver and tried to connect form my window machine through Ultra vnc it is not working properly. The issue I am facing is: when I am opening a terminal and enter later "m" from keyboard its work as a short for mail, and in case of later "s" the shortcut is "shutdown tab" those are present in panel. Then I remove those from panel and now I can enter the word m and s in terminal. The behavior is seems like a bug.
I've download the gpac files for MP4box from:[URL]..but im having issues compiling it. Its telling me "gcc: error: unrecognized option '--warn-common'"Running 64bit FC 15
I am having memory problems on my old Compaq PC, and am trying to run memtest86+-4.20 to check it. I downloaded the source file, and tried a compile, but had the following problem:
i dont know if this is the right section for this but i installed linux after i installed windows server 2003 and some how the grub loader got messed up and wouldnt show, only windows would boot. i fixed the grub loader through my live disc and when i select Other operating systems i get Error 11: Unrecognized device string. here is my fdisk -l.
Disk /dev/sda: 320.1 GB, 320072933376 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 38913 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes Disk identifier: 0x2c8e2c8d Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sda1 * 1 6 48163+ 7 HPFS/NTFS /dev/sda2 7 34329 275699497+ 7 HPFS/NTFS [Code].....
This started happening about 2-3 weeks ago when i noticed our backups weren't running anymore. whenever i try to run ANY type of scp command I get the following error: warning: Unrecognized configuration parameter permitlocalcommand ssh: FATAL: Illegal -o parameter "PermitLocalCommand no" lost connection
I checked the /etc/ssh/ssh_config file and there was a command PermitLocalCommand commented out, but for testing I even totally removed that line and then in scp forced the use of that file via scp -F /etc/ssh/ssh_config ......
and I still get the same error. This command is nowhere is any of my ssh config files so im at a loss here on how im supposed to fix this!! I even checked my home directory for maybe a ssh config file that might be overridding the system config but nothing.

i downloaded backtrack 4 (final) and booted the iso onto a flash drive using unetbootin. i then changed the boot order so the flash drive was first. after i did that i got into backtrack 4 did the install.sh and now i cant boot windows 7. even after changing the boot order to default, i turn my computer on and get a message that says:
Ubuntu 8.10, kernel 2.6.30.9 Ubuntu 8.10, kernel 2.6.30.9 (recovery mode) Ubuntu 8.10, memtest86+ Other operating systems : Memory Test (on /dev/sda1) Ubuntu 8.10, kernel 2.6.30.9 (on dev/sda1) Ubuntu 8.10, kernel 2.6.30.9 (recover mode) (on dev/sda1) Ubuntu 8.10, memtest86+ (on dev/sda1) [Code]....
i can only boot backtrack 4 OS, i really want to know what can i do to be able to boot my windows 7 home premium os.
I have created a script named ssh_inotify.sh to check /var/log/auth.log log file for newly started ssh session and display a question message box. This script uses inotifywait to monitor this above log file for modify file event and zenity to create question message boxes. Now i have created a startup service config file named ssh_inotify under /etc/init.d folder and placed the script ssh_inotify.sh under /usr/sbin and chmod this script to be executable.
The service config file ssh_inotify uses start-stop-daemon to run this script as background process. Now theproblem is that when i start this service using sudo service ssh_inotify start, the service is started, I can confirm this using ps -A | grep ssh_inotify also i can check for the PID associated with it under /var/run/ssh_inotify.pid. Now when i ssh to my machine, i do not get the question message box, I am writing in log file and in that i can see that the message under cancel button option for question message box is getting printed. This script runs perfectly when run directly or using start-stop-daemon command directly (exact command as typed in service config file above) on terminal, but not when this same command is executed using service file. Can someone please suggest me the solution and reason for such behavior when same command executed under different mode (using service or directly from terminal). If you guys require code, i can attach the files (currently i am in office so don't have access to these files.)

Im trying to instal Sun Virtualbox but when download completes and I click on install I get the following error>>Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus) I wont even bother with this software if there are others out there that are as easy to use. I used it on Windows and thought it was great ! (thats how I eventually switched to Linux, by using it virtually at first)
