Please try connecting to the remote computer again have somebady crost this problem before? does sombady have any good alternative program for xrdp? configured /etc/sysconfig/vncserver, used vncpasswd as the user im trying to log in as to set passwd, disabled firewalls, set chkconfig --add vncserver but still whenever i try to connect to the vnc server I get "unable to connect to host: Connection refused (10061)". If I run the "vncserver" command as my normal user, I can connect fine then. This really wearing on me, any help is greatly appreciated. It is weird if I try to stop vncserver it says [ok] and then if I try to stop again it says [Failed] but if I check the status of vncserver it says Xvnc is running..

I'm running Fedora 15 with Gnome 3. I installed Gnome-Do using 'yum install gnome-do'. I opened it from the Terminal by typing 'gnome-do' but I keep getting an error message that says
Could not load desktop item: libgnome-desktop-2.so.17
Gnome-Do opens but it doesn't display any application I search for and when I try opening the Gnome-Do preferences, it quits.
I installed gnome-desktop-2.32.0-8.fc16.i686.rpm from here: [url] and then installed Gnome-Do. Everything works fine now.

I'm currently in the last steps of migrating a CentOS mailserver to the x64 version. However, under the old 32 bit version, I was using XRDP to access the Centos box from my Windows boxes. However I can't seem to find the XRDP package in the standard repos so this is prompting me to look at possible alternatives (XRDP was incompatible with my windows 7 box anyway soI had to RDP to another server of ours running 2003 to RDP into the mailserver which was far from ideal).Basically, I'd like to be able to seamlessly access the Centos box with a standard RDP client.
I know VNC Server/Clients would be an option but RDP gives me the freedom of any windows box being able to access the server on the same adress/port without installing software on any windows box I encounter. Are there any viable alternatives to XRDP ?There's no "add-on" to VNC server that could enable it to accept RDP connections ?

I am relatively new to Linux, but have been running Ubuntu for quite a while personally. I am setting up a simple CentOS server to run RT: Request Tracker [URL] here at work. This is going to be a simple virtual server running on VMware ESXi. I have the server up and running in VMware workstation. Since this will be a virtual server we will need to remotely administrate it. It is not a member of our Windows domain, it doesn't really need to be. So I can't connect to it remotely, and I am stuck. I have set the remote desktop preferences, and choose not to ask for confirmation, and set a password, but I cannot connect. I am using VNC Viewer. If I enter the host name it cannot be found, I am guessing because it isn't part of the domain DNS doesn't know how to find the host, but it also doesn't work when I attempt to connect via IP address. I can ping, and I can SSH with Putty but we will need to remote desktop to administrate RT.

OpenSUSE11.2 (x86_64)
KDE 4.3.5
My normal windowing operations are fine. I have no problems running parallel kde desktop sessions (1 user, 1 root), switching back and forth with ease. I have been able to get vnc remote connections to work, but the only desktop environment I can get to run twm. When I try to start kde it fails with:
startkde: Starting up...
kdeinit4: preparing to launch /usr/lib64/libkdeinit4_klauncher.so
kdeinit4: Communication error with launcher. Exiting!
Communication error with KInit.
startkde: Could not start ksmserver. Check your installation.
Which is weird because:
> which ksmserver
/usr/bin/ksmserver
I have this in my .vnc xstartup:
#!/bin/sh
xrdb $HOME/.Xresources
xsetroot -solid grey
xterm -geometry 80x24+10+10 -ls -title "$VNCDESKTOP Desktop" &
/usr/bin/startkde
I've read several related vnc threads. It appears to me I have a more general X11 setup failure, but at this point I'm lost.

I installed CentOS with KDE and Gnome. the computer starts with a console instead of a window manager. When I try to start Gnome (using either startx or gdm), it freezes the whole computer. I can't even get to another command prompt using Control+Alt+F2, when I try to start Gnome.
After rebooting I tried starting KDE using the kdm command, but it prints out some error messages and logs me out of my session. (I've never seen a program force a log out of a session before! I thought that was strange.) I tried to record the errors by using the command "kdm > errors.log" and "kdm >> errors.log", but nothing is written to the errors.log file.
Also, under the (likely?) case that this problem is caused by the graphics card, I ran lspci and discovered that this computer contains this graphics card: VGA Compatible Controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 915GM/GMS/910GML Express Graphics Controller (rev 04)

I am running a server (multipale roles). The base OS is Centos 5.2 and an xen kernel... The system is usually headless... Most of the work i do is also through terminal. However I have come across multiple situations that require me to visually have access. The problem I am running into is that the remote desktop built into the system dosent enable remote access to the system intill i have looged in on the system? What are my options? or is their a way to boot remote desktop with the system?

In normal desktop GUI is working fine. But when in install VNCserver and tried to connect form my window machine through Ultra vnc it is not working properly. The issue I am facing is: when I am opening a terminal and enter later "m" from keyboard its work as a short for mail, and in case of later "s" the shortcut is "shutdown tab" those are present in panel. Then I remove those from panel and now I can enter the word m and s in terminal. The behavior is seems like a bug.

I'm running VNC Server on CentOS5 on a brand new installation, this is for some of my students to use specific software via VNC on their machines from home that they otherwise don't have access to on their Windows machines. This has been working fine on our previous server for a few years but the hardware is now outdated so I have upgraded and put a fresh install of CentOS 5 on. This works fine for about 24 hours and then eventually one of the session ends up freezing where the user then can see everything on their session, the cursor can move but they cant click a single thing.

I love Ubuntu but there is just one thing that I cannot get working. I have vista on this computer (Which I am going to delete after I get this working) when this computer is booted into vista then I type "192.168.1.65" (which is this computers internal ip address) and it connects to it without a problem. When I try this on ubuntu with KRFB running I type "192.168.1.65:5900" as it tells me to do with the added port number. This computer (This is the one I am Connecting to says "The remote user has been authenticated and is now connected." and when I hover over the icon it says "Desktop sharing - Connected with 192.168.1.70" which is my laptops IP address. On my laptop however it says "Remote Desktop Disconnected Because of a protocol error detected at the client (code 0x1104), this session will be disconnected. Please try connecting to the remote computer again." No matter how many times I try it doesn't work.

I am working on a project where I need to connect to a remote MS SQL Server database with PHP from a CentOS 5.5 server. I was able to get it installed and working on my Mac OS X 10.6 laptop with unixODBC and FreeTDS. However, I am unable to get it configured on my CentOS server. unixODBC and FreeTDS were installed, but when I try to connect, I get the following error message:
Connection Failed:[unixODBC][Driver Manager]Can't open lib '/usr/lib/libtdsodbc.so.0' : /usr/lib/libtdsodbc.so.0: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS32
From what I could find by scouring the internets,it appears that I have 32 bit unixODBC (or FreeTDS, I'm not sure) installed (libtdsodbc.so.0 is symlinked to libtdsodbc.so.0.0.0) and it needs to be 64 bit. However, when I try to install the 64 bit version with
yum install freetds.x86_64
I get a message that it is already installed. Is there something else I need to do to get around this error? I'm a developer and not a server, so I'm not sure where else to go.

I am getting a strange font problem (see attached screenshot) for a user logging in over VNC Server, I am also logged in over VNC however I am no experiancing any problems... This was the case on CentOS 5.3 and on 5.4. I have tried removing the .vnc dir in the users home dir and re running vncserver so that it recreates it, I found this in the logs:
1. (nautilus:14718): Pango-WARNING **: No builtin or dynamically
2.loaded modules were found. Pango will not work correctly.
3.This probably means there was an error in the creation of:
4.'/etc/pango/pango.modules'
5. You should create this file by running pango-querymodules.
6.Fontconfig error: Cannot load default config file
[code]....

I have a VPS by my host running on a linux server, and they have given me SSH access. Is it possible to remote desktop into the server, like you can on Windows, so that I can physcially click on things rather than having to use SSH commands?
Surely this must be running on Fedora or Ubuntu etc. so there is some type of OS. You would probably have to install something on the servers end I suppose but just want to know if its possible and what the options are.

I'd like to remote into my Linux (Ubuntu) desktop from a Windows desktop. Of course there is VNC, among others. The trick is that I just want to have a remote session without having any local screen sharing. In other words, when I type and move the mouse on the Windows computer, I don't want that activity to show up on the screen remote Linux system. The Linux box should just sit there at the login prompt or whatever it was doing prior to my remote login.
