I am trying to get the wireless lan to work on a Lenovo 3000 n100. Currently the light does not come on and the card does not work. Cnet says that this computer has an intel pro wireless 3945abg however /sbin/lspci -nnk Yields 03:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Broadcom Corporation BCM4311 802.11b/g WLAN [14e4:4311] (rev 01) ubsystem: Broadcom Corporation Device [14e4:0465] Kernel driver in use: b43-pci-bridge

I recently got a lenovo w510 laptop and I installed openSUSE 11.3 KDE on it. the wireless works fine at home (802.11g WPA2) when I go to work I have tried to set up the wifi for the 802.1X PEAP network but it doesn't look like it even tries to connect.
The work network set up is as follows. non-brodcasting SSID (do I need to tell network manager of this? I manually enter the SSID no problem)
Dynamic WEP 802.1X
PEAP
blank anonymous identity
no CA cert (I suspect this might be the problem)
PEAP v 1
MSCHAPv2
I have verified my username and pw several times, as well as the SSID. Just yesterday I helped a co-worker get on the network under ubuntu and it worked like a charm.
The Hardware profile displays the wifi card as a "WiFi Link 6000 Series" It is an intel card.
downloaded the ISO and tried both options. Looks like Win doesnt like the of me installing another o.s.Get error message to the effect "acces denied" and referred to log file.thats fine ...

View 5 Replies View RelatedI bought a netbook and couldn't handle windows xp at all, so installed ubuntu 9.10, but the wireless network icon doesn't appear on the top of the screen like it should, presumably because ubuntu doesn't automatically recognize whatever card is in there. This is an asus 1001-HA. could anyone assist me with getting this thing up and running on a wireless network?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to install linux on my HP pavillion 511w for several days. The first I tried to install was debian, it didn't freeze but it kept saying unable to mount cdrom drive. (This may have been from an incorrect jumper setting that I later changed.) I haven't tried debian since changing the jumper.
I next tried ubuntu 10.04 beta 2, all it did was go to a ubuntu flash screen that never stopped cycling these small round "lights".
I then tried the "stable" ubuntu 9.10. This went to a screen with several options for installing ubuntu, checking the disk etc. No matter what I selected it would just freeze. Since this is my first install I wasn't sure if this was normal or not so I waited several hours and still nothing, after enough time I concluded it must have been frozen. But before I continue wasting time waiting for hours can someone tell me... when installing these linux versions is there a sign that it is loading, booting, or installing the OS? I figure it must have a status bar or something, but want to make sure.
I next tried linux mint 8. It did the same thing, went to a sceen with several options and when I select something it says "loading" at the bottom with a blinking cursor, but of course it never loads anything, just sits there. This one throws me off a bit because it says its loading and the cursor blinks but it just doesn't seem like it is actually doing anything.
I have also downloaded ubuntu 8 which I plan to try next. I've tried changing the boot/install options by pushing F6 or whatever it was.
The computer is an older system that I never use because its so slow running XP. I thought linux would run faster and I could get some use out of it while learning/experimenting with linux. I always have to have projects to keep my mind working, but constantly failing at the starting line is not much fun.
I have "successfully" installed both LinuxMint 9 "Isadora" and Ubuntu 10.04 on it, and found I have the same problem with each. That is, I am able to:
1. startup to the live CD
2. format the hd to be all Linux
3. startup the computer from the HD into Linux
Then, I get these problems, in both distributions
4. Monitor hangs on the desktop background for an immensely long time (maybe 30 minutes?) with no cursor or menu bar or status bar or anything
5. Eventually, I get a desktop that I would expect and I have an option to do things like update, customize etc. however at this point, the cursor is invisibile. I am able to navigate and get around by guessing (menubar elements highlight when being hovered over)
6. After about a half an hour in an operable mode (I have tested network connections, played videos and music from external HD media stores, you name it.) the monitor will mysteriously crash.
Clarification:
#4: nothing I do while the dekstop background is featureless, meaning any key on the keyboard or any normal key combination, including all the F keys, ctrl-F keys, ctrl-alt-delete or ctrl-alt-escape or alt-opt-delete or alt-option-escape etc. Nothing does anything. It is utterly unresponsive.
#6 What I mean by "mysteriously crash"? the monitor goes black and then the top half starts displaying what looks like a super-zoomed in bar code. The only way out of this is to force the computer to restart.
Since this happens in both the linux distributions, I'm at a loss to figure what's causing it.
I am using a Compaq FS7600 17 inch CRT monitor with this Dell Dimension 2400.
just installed ubuntu on a dell inspiron 6400 but the wireless doesnt work.
However, it works 100% when running from the live cd.
Can i install/copy the driver from livecd to hard drive, or is there another soultion for this?
I've blacklisted acer-wmi as that was the fix previously, but that has no effect.
When I do an rfkill list it tells me brcmwl-0 is hard blocked, regardless of where the hard switch is. The hard switch is working fine for the bluetooth..
I have laptop lenovo T43 with FC11. The wireless is not getting activated (the lamp is not glowing). When I boot to windows, it is glowing. I have tried everything - used iwconfig etc to set parameters etc etc., all without any result, the wireless stubbornly remains in sleep mode. With this in off state, I can not even scan for the networks. When I try to activate it through System->Administration->Network, it says cable unplugged.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a problem that Ubuntu 10.10 won't run on my Lenovo Ideapad laptop. I have managed to install it over ethernet a few weeks ago an it worked fine, but whenever I try to install it from a cd, installation completes successfully, but the Ubuntu won't start. A black screen with a lot of text on it and then everything freeze.
I have tried it without installing and it worked (live cd). I have also tried to install it on my desktop machine and it worked fine.
On my laptop, I already have a Windows 7 (64 bit) on another partition.
Did anyone have a similar problem?
I am using a Lenovo G530 and installed ubuntu. i previously used Windows 7 ultimate so when i installed ubuntu I partioned disks. My wireless is not working and have followed the advice in this forum to the letter put i would get an erorr message that says that the e drive is inexesible.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been using Ubuntu at my home laptop (Dell) have had no problem. However, recently I installed 11.04 in my office laptop - Lenovo B450, but 'm unable to connect thru wireless.
It is simply not detecting the wireless. I have a dual boot with Windows 7. Windows 7 detects wireless (surprisingly).
I have tried configuring the network connection in all possible way (manual / auto).
Just loaded Centos 5.6 on my old Lenovo t400. Works great with on exception. Can't get the wireless turned on. It's an Intel PRO/wireless 5100 AGN (shiloh).
The external switch is on. FN+F5 does nothing.
It's in the device list but does not appear in Network Connections.
I could not get wireless connection during the Debian Testing (LXDE) installation and am wondering how I can setup wireless connection now. Here are the details:
- Hardware: Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon (3rd gen., 2015, core i7, 256GB, WHQD display)
- For installation, I used [URL] .... -> debian-testing-amd64-lxde-CD-1.iso
- During the installation process, I received a message that the following files are missing: iwlwifi-7265-8.ucode, iwlwifi-7265-9.ucode (strangely (to me), they were mentioned twice, so 4 files). I was asked to provide them on a USB stick
- I went to [URL] ...., downloaded firmware-nonfree_0.43.tar.gz and put the files iwlwifi-7265-8.ucode-22.24.8.0 and iwlwifi-7265-9.ucode-23.214.9.0 on a USB stick (FAT32 formatted). They were not recognized. Also not after renaming precisely to the file names I was asked for (what should I have done in this case?)
- I then simply continued the installation (flawlessly) without internet connection
- How can I now set up wireless connection?
I'm new to Debian but an Ubuntu user for 3 years. I tried to use commands from Ubuntu (ipconfig...) to figure out more, but they were not available.
I can't connect using wireless connection because it is disable (the light indicator is off) after I pass the grub, but it works fine in win 7. does anyone know how to enable it?lspci output said my wireless module is broadcom 4313.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI installed Ubuntu 9.10 on my Lenovo T500. The wireless interface information is listed at the bottom of this message.I would like to connect to my Airport Extreme wireless router which is password protected. The bottom of the router lists three MAC addresses with different symbols next to them. I assume the symbols mean different types of connections (e.g., firewire, ethernet cable, etc).
The network icon on the upper right corner of the screen indicates that wireless is enabled. However, I don't get a wireless connection. I checked that the switch on the front of the laptop is "on" for wireless.
I just installed Netbook Remix 10.04 on my Lenovo S10 netbook and wireless is not working. I looked on google for some answers and saw that the Broadcom STA driver may be missing so when I tried to install it through Synaptic Package Manager it said that it was already installed. When I click on the wireless icon, it says under wireless that the device is not ready and I can't connect to any wireless networks, even if the SSID is not hidden. I am confused as I already have the driver and all the system updates but it still won't work.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI installed Ubuntu Netbook Edition on my Lenovo IdeaPad S10 yesterday (I was using Window XP before that) and since then I am struggling to connect to the internet. I think the wireless network device is on because Bluetooth is on and there is a reassuring blue light near the wireless symbol. But the network managers says "device not ready" and don't find any wi-fi spot.I've read posts on the subject and followed the instructions from the official documentation.
