View 9 Replies View RelatedNewly installed Debian system from years with Fedora. Ran system update and system got hosed, booted but no Gnome. Got Gnome back after MANY 'aptitude upgrade's. Xemacs disappeared! Along with other things I installed. Tried to install Xemacs but it is broken and will not install, complains about dpkg TOO current(?). So downloaded Xemacs for Xemacs.org and compiled source, installed.
Now when I start Xemacs is does not run in an X window but runs emacs in a terminal window. If I run it from a script, it complains about 'not in tty window'.

I have configured tfpt server to work as xinet.d service.Below is conf file ftom /etc/xinetd.d/tftp
Code:
service tftp
{
socket_type= dgram
protocol= udp
wait= yes

I have to make sure this service works, I tried to 'telnet server_name 69' but I get below error :
Code:
[root@ldap2 xinetd.d]# telnet localhost 69

How can I verify that this service works ?
I know, Songbird does not currently support Linux... I got the x64 .deb file off this website (http://skyzim.com/songbird-1-4-3-installer/) and installed it without issue. I got it up and running then screwed something up with the graphics and needed to reinstall. Now when I get the same file off the website, install it, then try to run I get an error "GLib-ERROR **: /build/buildd/glib2.0-2.24.1/glib/gmem.c:157: failed to allocate 14145530384 bytes". I tried doing a sudo apt-get remove libvisual-0.4-plugins as was recommended elsewhere to no avail. Anyone know how to get songbird up and running again? I did a "Removal" through synaptic to uninstall the first time, perhaps that is an issue?
View 1 Replies View RelatedToday I downloaded an update (can't remember which ones they were exactly) and afterwards I was told I needed to restart my computer. But once this happened I couldn't even get to the GRUB menu. before the grub menu was supposed to appear I got this error message
"error: no such device: /ubuntu/disks/root.disk" and
"error: no such device: /ubuntu/install/boot/grub/grub.cfg"
afterwards I get to some command line version of grub where I can type in commands like "reboot" but i don't have my old menu where I just selected the kernel I wanted. I have a dual boot with Wubi if that makes any difference. Does anybody have a way I can recover my copy of Ubuntu, or will I need to reinstall?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI am new to Ubuntu and (v 8.10). Stupidly fiddling around with fstab I changed something and when I rebooted the x server would not start (some internal error)
I believe this is because I changed fstab, and so the drive is read only. I can access the partition from ubuntu installed in windows but cannot change the file. How do I sort out the permissions?
Here is fstab, i assume the bold part is the issue code...
What is the proper way to stop tftpd from starting up? There is no numbered rc script symlink for it so I can't use update-rc.d. I don't want to just hack a file unless that is considered "the way".
View 4 Replies View RelatedHaving a problem with tftpd on CentOS 5.5. I am only able to download files from the localhost address.
I have checked iptables (by adding rules and by turning the firewall completely off -- nothing changes) and enabled tftpd logging (by adding -v to the server_args section in xinetd.d/tftp) and I DO see the request coming in, but no response from the daemon. I've also tried upping the verbosity by adding multiple -vs and/or --verbosity 10 to the mix, but all I ever see is the initial request come in, nothing more. I've even tried running the daemon in foreground mode with -L but I get no verbosity then.

Here's the problem -- DHCP wont start and throws the error "Can't create PID file /var/run/dhcpd.pid: Permission denied." Somewhere I found a post that indicated that the following corrected the issue (I dont really know why):
ln -s /var/run/dhcp3-server/dhcpd.pid /var/run/dhcpd.pid
dhcpd3 -cf /etc/dhcp3/dhcpd.conf eth1
When I do the above DHCP will start (in theory, at least no erros are thrown). But if I ask DHCP to restart, it will stop, but not restart. And the error is "No subnet declaration for eth1 (192.168.3.2)"

I have a problem with TFTP files greater than 32MB with Ubuntu. I haven't been able to find a fix for this issue. This has been a known issue for years and was corrected in the winodws world(AUGH !). when I did an apt-get install this morning it said my tftp was up to date.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am learning Linux and especially the scripting and server administration aspect. I recently installed TFTPD on a Debian Lenny box and was satisfied with the results. The only drawback that I could find was that a file had to exist before TFTPD would allow a transfer. I understand that this is standard practice however I was wondering if there was a way around this. I am using this TFTP server to backup configurations and IOS images on our Cisco devices in a private network. If there isn't anyway to do this is there a different TFTP server that I could install that would support this functionality. I have read the man pages without much luck and doing Google searches hasn't yielded many results. I really appreciate your help and if there is anything you need from me please let me know./etc/inetd.conf fileQuote:

Since I began using F11, Midnight Commander takes a life to start. Previous versions of Fedora didn't give me any problem. I know many of you don't use it, but for those who needs MC, anyone is having the same trouble? F11 x86_64.
View 1 Replies View RelatedAll connections on my computer start loading and then hang: it happens when running apt-get update (a few repositories load successfully and then it hangs at a random one) and when loading web pages with the browser (it says "Connecting...", then "Waiting for....", sometimes some part of the page loads, and then it hangs).
This happens both with my wired and my wireless connection. It does not happen on Windows on the same computer.
Any idea on what it might be?
