View 9 RepliesUnable to start tftpd service after starting xinetd
View 9 RepliesI found a way to capture emails sent from my Drupal installation, and Fakemail seems simple enough.
I can follow the tutorial. Since the application Fakemail needs to be running to capture the outgoing emails, it seems like a good candidate for xinetd, yes?
I've found a simple config tutorial describing starting the service and what the parameters are for the service-specific configuration files. This got me this far,
Code:
# default: on
# description: This is a script to start the Sandbox app "fakemail"
service fakemail
{
[Code]....
But the service is not starting up.
Or, recommend another application which uses a similar configuration like Sendmail so I can copy this
The Fakemail application/service is started from command line like so,
# fakemail.py --host=localhost --port=10025 --path=[path_to_email_textfile]
My tftp server stopped working. I don't know why. I tried re-installation of tftpd-hpa, I tried to install another server: atftpd in its place. They don't function.(Debian Squeeze)
XXXXXXXXXXXX
HPA's tftpd: in.tftpd/usr/sbin/in.tftpd: unrecognized option '--address'
Starting HPA's tftpd: in.tftpdinvoke-rc.d: initscript tftpd-hpa, action "start" failed.
dpkg: error processing tftpd-hpa (--configure):
[code]...
I have installed fedora 13 in my system. httpd server is also installed. when I tried to start the service of httpd, following error message displayed: Starting httpd: (98)Address already in use: make_sock: could not bind to address [::]:80
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhat is the proper way to stop tftpd from starting up? There is no numbered rc script symlink for it so I can't use update-rc.d. I don't want to just hack a file unless that is considered "the way".
View 4 Replies View RelatedThe nfs-client service isn't starting after boot up. This is causing problems with the user as they cannot access the remote folders on the server. The PC is a Thinkpad X60s with oS11.3 and KDE4.4.4. The problem started about a week ago after some updates (new kernel update, kde4 updates and some system files) were applied on the laptop.
After logging in none of the remote folders are available. Checking the nfs-client service under Yast>System Services (Runlevel) shows the nfs-client service is not running. If I enable and start the service I get the pop-up confirming the service has started but still cannot access the remote folders even after issuing a mount -a. Opening Dolphin just opens a blank grey window which needs to be terminated.
Trying to restart the nfs service using su -c 'rcnfs restart' sticks at Starting NFS client services: sm-notify Just leaving the PC for 10-15mins eventually sorts itself out and the remote folders become visible. I cannot see anything obvious in the logs so am a bit stumped.
I've already installed centos 5.5 and checked the xinetd services using the command : service xinetd status and the reply is xinetd: unrecognized service.

Is there a way to limit the time an instance of a service can run? For example, I want to limit all telnet sessions to 30 mins. Users will be automatically logged out after 30 mins.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just installed F12 from scratch and I'm facing a curious situation with dhpd. The service is enabled, but It fails to start on boot. I see the following error on /var/log/messages:

So it can't be a problem with my dhcpd.conf file.
I have centos 5.3 installed, while restarting httpd service I get error starting http:/bin/bash line 1 9941 segmentation fault /usr/sbin/httpd. If I stop httpd service and start it will start but if make service httpd restart it give above error.

Just upgraded to F15 and I cannot seem to get the sendmail service starting at boot time.It starts and works just fine by hand after boot, so there's nothing wrong with the sendmail
configuration itself."runlevel" shows a current run level of 5 and "chkconfig" shows sendmail on for run level 5.All the other mail service (mailman, clamd, etc.) start fine.Doing "service sendmail start" after boot gets everything up and running just fine, but itsure would be nice to have it run at boot like it used to

Looks like it may be a permissions problem.
Anybody from the ejabberd community here that has gotten ejabberd to work on f-12?

I am trying to run svnserve on startup on an Ubuntu Server 10.04 machine using xinetd
My repositories are at /home/svn, so the directory should be the same as in the example. Following the example, the owner should be www-data, I assume. (Is that right?) I've also tried the admin user account as as the svnowner (the one used to set the svnserver up).
I've never done any shell scripting, so I tried xinetd instead of using the startup script. But if I don't get any feedback for using xinetd that will be my next course of option.
For reference, the link above suggests adding
Code:
svn stream tcp nowait svnowner /usr/bin/svnserve svnserve -i -r /home/svn
to the /etc/inetd.conf file, replacing svnowner and /home/svn to the appropriate values (although I'm not 100% sure what those should be). I assume since I did a chown on the repo to www-data that www-data is the owner I need to put in that line, but it doesn't work.
It's just annoying to have to ssh in and type
Code:
svnserve -d --foreground -r /home/svn
every time I reboot.
I installed the Kde desktop and i'm unable to setup a broadband dsl connection

View 11 Replies View RelatedI have a couple of problems - and am new to Fedora which, up until about three days ago, was flawless.Am using KDE on F13. (Gnome & LXDE are also installed.)First problem is easy to solve, I think. How do I prevent "inactive" windows from fading out? It's an incredibly inconvenient feature and utterly defeats the whole purpose of the "Always on Top" option! I can't seem to find the option anywhere? On to KPackageKit. It has been trying to update KDE for the last three days but always gets hung up with the message: "Waiting for Service to Start."I notice that this problem might be listed as a Bug? - but not entirely sure.Is there a straightforward solution to this or is it, in fact, a bug?It also wants me to repeatedly restart because a new Kernel 2.6.33.5-124.fc13 has supposedly been installed.
