Ubuntu :: Pen Drive Doesnot Permit To Cut-paste / Sort It?

I gave my pen drive to my friend who is using window system.and now when i tried to delete two files autorun.inf and Rahul'sVirusprotection.vbe it give error message Error removing file: Read-only file system.
here is the content of RhulVirusprotection.vbe code...
while last time i used my pen drive on my system it was doing fine.Can any one suggest me what is going wrong and how any window's script can affect linux system(if my prob is due to that script)

just want to download the 60mb-ish pack of family photos from my external usb hard drive. I've gone through a multitude of wikis and help threads and can't seem to figure out how to copy and paste those files to my laptop The usb hd works perfectly as I just was using it about 1 hour ago when I still had vista on this laptop. As i was a bit scared to attempt to partition my HDD in order to install Ubuntu, i purchased a USB drive and installed it there. So now if i boot without the USB drive plugged in it boots straight into XP as before. If i boot with the USB drive plugged in it boots to Ubuntu. Great, i'm happy with that - it would be nice for GRUB (on the USB drive) to give me the option to boot to XP on the HDD but i might explore that one some time in the future.
The problem i have is this - i used to boot from a 10.04 Live cd version installed on a USB memory stick and when doing this i could 'see' the HDD and access files on it (mp3s mainly). I should explain that the HDD is actually HDDs - there are two of them in a RAID 0 set-up - two 160Gb drives that appear as a single 320Gb c: drive under Windows. Under 10.04 there was a '316Gb File System entry'
Now, when i boot from the USB drive there's no trace of the HDD in 'places'. If i go into system/administration/disks i can see the two HDDs but all i can do is click on one of them and i can mount what i assume is a 4Gb recovery partition. The rest of the disk appears to be unformatted??? Please can someone help get my HDD access back!
Please let me know what additional information i need to provide ( i know there's bound to be some). Please also accept my apologies for any dodgy terminology i have used.

I'm looking to use Linux (Ubuntu 9.10) as a network bridge between two subnets. I can configure iptables to permit all traffic on eth0 (subnet 1) to pass to eth1 (subnet 2) but before transmitting that traffic I want to perform further analysis. Is it possible within iptables or via a third-party product such a pyroman, to write a "hook" that then directs that traffic to another application installed on the same host?

I have squid server running FC7. i have created a ncsa authentication for windows user to use internet through squid proxy.
My problem is that the each created user should be able to change their password.
- Is there a way, using NCSA authentication, to allow users to change their passwords?
- Is there a way to use windows AD password for squid authentication. if so how?

Using SLES11, squid 2.7, NO TRANSPARENT PROXY, and work fine. Now i need permit a some users only access to a pop from external mail (outgoing mail authenticated)

i recently bought an external 2 TB usb drive and connected it to a philips dvd player. all movies play just fine but I noticed that folder and file names are not displayed on the screen in alphabetical order but in the order they've been copied to the drive.now, i found the way to fix it by using this program: URl...the thing is it won't start in wine.so, is there any way to sort directory tables under ubuntu?

I'm running Ubuntu 10.04, and I the "Network Game" option in Nibbles is grayed-out. Ctrl-G doesn't work either. Is there a fix for this, or do I need to install something extra?

I have a 1.0 ghz G4 eMac running Tiger. Using Ubuntu 10.04's Live-CD I installed 10.04 on a 8-gig USB flash drive and it worked very well despite spending nearly five hours to download its files via DSL and a pokey USB 1.1 port. The flash drive's 10.04 installation worked just fine on my eMac and 900mhz G3 iBook except for Airport wireless non-connecting issues.(I like Ubuntu 10.04 because unlike Mint for PPC, you're not hassled or barred from accessing your Mac HD and its files.) THEN, to resolve my wireless issues, I decided to upgrade to 10.10 which took nearly 12 hours, and it seemed to've installed well until I tried booting the flash drive and it doesn't work. I get the Ubuntu icon in the Startup Disk screen but it keeps returning to it even after I select Ubuntu. The error screen I get reads code...

Recently i upgraded my dvd writer from pata to sata, now i install LG sata dvd writer into my system, now my problem is that its unable to detect in my fedora 8 box , but i can successfully boot fedora 8 from this dvd writer.i have a kernel version 2.6.23. solution for this.

I upgraded to fedora 13 from fedora 11.
i used the preupgrade method.
i am running dual boot with win7 as 2nd OS
after downloading all packages, the preupgrade asked to reboot. after bootloader started, the screen haults and displays "FINDING STORAGE DEVICES" and doesnot go any further.
I hae tried both options of enabling and disabling sata option, but it didn't worked.

I say yes, but after restarintg, squeeze doesnot appear in grub.

I have Centos5.3 64 bit installed. My board in GIGABYTE GA-G31M-S2L Mother Board. Linux doesnot detect my lan card and the light goes off while I boot into linux but it works well on XP.

I recently took my Compaq Presario 2175US notebook completely apart and resoldered the power jack so that it could be used again (after 2 years of dormancy). After successfully putting it back together (with a handful of leftover screws ) , I was able to successfully install Ubuntu 10.04 (Windows XP seemed silly at this point and I really like using Open Office). Anyway, after a couple of days looking for the wireless driver for the internal wireless, I found the answer and got that working.
Unfortunately, the video does not seem to be working other than a basic VESA configuration. The notebook has the ATI Radeon IGP 320M video chip installed. I have searched for many days (about a week) on the internet for a way to get this working, but have been unsuccessful. Although I have found many posts all over the net (here included) that list folks with similar problems, and having tried many of the "fixes", I am still unsuccessful at getting the video card to work in any more than a minimal manner (no games, no 3D of any kind...etc.)

I have installed Fedora 15 on a Mac mini 2.4. Everything works fine except the audio and wireless devices.
lspci shows this:
In the gnome, the network option only shows the wired connection. I tried to do yum install kmod-wl which downgraded the graphic display and didnt help in wireless issue. I reinstalled nvidia driver. the lspci is after doing all this stuff.

One of our clients uses a mobile client, which "helo"s with a non-resolvable hostname (which contains the correct IPv4 address in the name but does not resolve). I'd like to be able to config PERMIT "joeblow@mydomain" when the helo-names "*.mobilepool.carrier.net". Can anybody give me a hint how to do this, if it is even possible?Right now it just rejects based on not resolving the HELO name.

We switched from unix to linux and we have an old report that extracted data from a database, output to an ascii file and then sorted the results in the file based on different arguments. The report now blows up when it runs,and I can only guess it is because the options for sort on linux differ slightly from unix.For example, here is one of the commands issued from within the report app that ran on the old unix box:
if sort-sequence = "descending" then
'sort -t~" -f +3.0f -4.0 +5.0r -6.0 -f '
else
'sort -t~" +3.0f -4.0 +1.0f -2.0 -f'
I will eventually rewrite the report to store the data in a local table, but I can simply adjust the options to suit the requirments of linux. Basically, I need to know if this can be a quick fix for the short term.

Newly installed Debian system from years with Fedora. Ran system update and system got hosed, booted but no Gnome. Got Gnome back after MANY 'aptitude upgrade's. Xemacs disappeared! Along with other things I installed. Tried to install Xemacs but it is broken and will not install, complains about dpkg TOO current(?). So downloaded Xemacs for Xemacs.org and compiled source, installed.
Now when I start Xemacs is does not run in an X window but runs emacs in a terminal window. If I run it from a script, it complains about 'not in tty window'.

installed Lucid Lynx and am trying to paste fluendo codecs to /usr/lib/gsteamer-0.10 and the paste command, amongst others, is disabled. I think this is down to permissions, ss there any way to override this?
