Is it even possible to use vino with two server-side x screens? I would be perfectly happy with only one X screen exposed via VNC if it is impossible in the VNC client to choose which X screen to connect to.
I have a dual monitor display with my Ubuntu 10.04 x64 setup and I need to configure Vino to default to the secondary monitor (which is actually screen 0.1). Does anyone know if this is possible?

I would like for user1 to have genetics as the main group but also belong to biochem. When user1 creates a file, as he/she belongs to main group genetics, I assume the file will be owned by user1 and group owner will be genetics. Ideally files created by user1 should be accessible to users in group genetics(when permissions are tweaked) but not by individuals in group biochem. However, any files with group owner biochem should be accessible to user1 as he/she does belong to biochem as a secondary group. Would having user1 main group genetics, secondary group biochem fulfil this criteria ?
If I wanted all localisation to be in English (UK)but also need somestmes to be able to type and read Cyrillics, which options shall I sellect diring installation? I do not need Cyrillics as the default.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a CentOS 5 server with a 250gb hard drive running close to the maximum space on one of the partitions. 87% of 200gb (/home), roughly. I have a second 250gb hard drive which is completely unused. I just recently did some searching through the forums here and found out about LVM and wanted to implement it. Although the downside is I believe it has to wipe a drive/partition before it can add it as a logical volume.
The process I'm considering following is:
1. add this empty 250gb (SDB) secondary hard drive as a logical volume on LVM and copy everything over from the currently filling up partition on my main hard drive.
2. have LVM add in the old partition on the primary hard drive (SDA)
3. extend my logical volume out to include the old partition. Extending my total hard drive space out to 450gb.
so as my title implies I like to login to my headless debian box after it reboots yet havent found any info on that. Can someone please tell me of script which I suppose would be used to make vino start as a process right after boot

but while adding some rule to the iptable i faced an error like the following
iptables v1.4.2: Couldn't load target `standard':/usr/local//libexec/xtables/libipt_standard.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
i basically want to add a rule like the following
iptables -A INPUT -p icmp -j QUEUE
one more thing i would like to add post is tat
i did not find a library called libipt_standard.so in iptables folder(/usr/local/libexec/xtables)
instead i found a library libxt_standard.so
i tried renaming libxt_standard.so to libipt_standard.so
but even then i found the same error.
I know, Songbird does not currently support Linux... I got the x64 .deb file off this website (http://skyzim.com/songbird-1-4-3-installer/) and installed it without issue. I got it up and running then screwed something up with the graphics and needed to reinstall. Now when I get the same file off the website, install it, then try to run I get an error "GLib-ERROR **: /build/buildd/glib2.0-2.24.1/glib/gmem.c:157: failed to allocate 14145530384 bytes". I tried doing a sudo apt-get remove libvisual-0.4-plugins as was recommended elsewhere to no avail. Anyone know how to get songbird up and running again? I did a "Removal" through synaptic to uninstall the first time, perhaps that is an issue?
View 1 Replies View RelatedToday I downloaded an update (can't remember which ones they were exactly) and afterwards I was told I needed to restart my computer. But once this happened I couldn't even get to the GRUB menu. before the grub menu was supposed to appear I got this error message
"error: no such device: /ubuntu/disks/root.disk" and
"error: no such device: /ubuntu/install/boot/grub/grub.cfg"
afterwards I get to some command line version of grub where I can type in commands like "reboot" but i don't have my old menu where I just selected the kernel I wanted. I have a dual boot with Wubi if that makes any difference. Does anybody have a way I can recover my copy of Ubuntu, or will I need to reinstall?
I am new to Ubuntu and (v 8.10). Stupidly fiddling around with fstab I changed something and when I rebooted the x server would not start (some internal error)
I believe this is because I changed fstab, and so the drive is read only. I can access the partition from ubuntu installed in windows but cannot change the file. How do I sort out the permissions?
Here is fstab, i assume the bold part is the issue code...

Here's the problem -- DHCP wont start and throws the error "Can't create PID file /var/run/dhcpd.pid: Permission denied." Somewhere I found a post that indicated that the following corrected the issue (I dont really know why):
ln -s /var/run/dhcp3-server/dhcpd.pid /var/run/dhcpd.pid
dhcpd3 -cf /etc/dhcp3/dhcpd.conf eth1
When I do the above DHCP will start (in theory, at least no erros are thrown). But if I ask DHCP to restart, it will stop, but not restart. And the error is "No subnet declaration for eth1 (192.168.3.2)"

I have fedora 10 and vista in my system. however,all was working fine ,but suddenly today when i tried to boot into fedora , i found that the avahi demon was not starting , and when the systemn booted , a message was shown that thre wasn't enough memeory space , and a blacjk scereen was shown , then i booted into vista and tried t acess the linux partiotion by Explore 2f software... At first it showed not enough memory space , but on rescanning the partition,it is showing the /boot folder.So how do i delete some data in fedora ?

All connections on my computer start loading and then hang: it happens when running apt-get update (a few repositories load successfully and then it hangs at a random one) and when loading web pages with the browser (it says "Connecting...", then "Waiting for....", sometimes some part of the page loads, and then it hangs).
This happens both with my wired and my wireless connection. It does not happen on Windows on the same computer.
Any idea on what it might be?

I have an NVidia SE6150 Graphic Card and i have tried to configure the startup parameter vga=0x317, i have changed this to vga=0 to get vesa mode but that doesn't work, i have an wide screen monitor that supports 24 bit and 1360x768.
I have a Linux box with Ubuntu 10.4 that I use basically to play music and download files. It doesn't have a monitor or keyboard, the only way I access it is using Ultra VNC. Yesterday, the automatic update service offered to update Vino (among other things) to version 2.28.2 and, as usual, I accepted.
After the update Ultra VNC has had trouble negotiating the protocol with Vino. The only way I got it to work was to force using Tight as the compression method, which provides a crappy image quality. Besides that, at some unexpected moment, the connection just dies.
Can anyone help me to:
1.- Solve this issue with the current Vino version or
2.- Go back to the previous version that was working perfectly.
I have Ubuntu 10.04 installed on an older desktop and when I first installed Ubuntu I set up Remote Desktop Vino services and was able to connect just fine with my Windows XP, Windows 7, Leopard, Snow Leopard PCs and my iPhone using VNC all just fine. So I apply updates to my Linux box and now it's broken. I can not remote into my Ubuntu machine at all now. So something with the updates is broken. I don't really use my Ubuntu machine at all, all it is used for is for a dedicated Folding@Home server. I attached a screenshot as what my Remote Desktop settings look like.
